So you are arguing that residency programs do not look at what medical school their applicants are applying from? Every medical school trains their applicants in slightly different ways and has their own unique focus. I guarantee you that plays a role in what and where their students match. You have a long way to go young padawan (I don't know why I am in a Starwars mood today lol).

Anyways, I am not going to start a flame war with you as much as you would like one. Try to play nice and not alienate everyone on this forum. Some of these people could be your class mates next year or (I gasp to think!!) your mentors even!

May the Force be with you. Oh and GO NOLES!
Speak for yourself, don't call anyone for help. I don't buy it if you say you don't feel inferior being at FSU compared to those studying at UF. It smells a mile away in your nonsense statements you think you directed towards me. Pull yourself together, and don't judge people from different schools. You're not in the playground, or do you?

IF FSU has been know of its focus on primary care especially in rural Florida and that of UF's especially on research and high-end specialties in healthcare, then it's transparent that you have an ill-built dilemma coming from your arrogant brain. UF's having less residents in ortho this year's match cannot change its value.. But, just try to console the kid in yourself, young padawan (you like it, I know), and get ready when it's your turn to get your "butler" kicked hard in the residency match (oh, gasp, should I say the "scramble" instead.)

It only boils down to that particular applicant's personal strength in acing every single obstacle on the way. You're out of my league.

Just cut it short, and get your "butler" away, if you know what I mean .. I gotta watch the show, it's interesting!

Some interesting insider facts about FSU match list:
1. All 4 FSU students that wanted Ortho, got Ortho. In comparison, 1/6 matched into Ortho at UF.
2. A couple of FSU's Ortho applicants actually matched into Shands over other UF Ortho applicants. Big slap in the face in my opinion to UF.
3. Mayo Clinic Jacksonville has 10 internal medicine slots. They are a big name program and those spots are very competitive. 3 of those slots were given to FSU students. Most given to anyone school at that program in history I believe.

Most residents in these spots go on to very prestigious fellowships in Interventional Cardiology or Gastroenterology.

The word is starting to get out about how awesome FSU COM students really are 🙂.

As an aside, ceng2doc, this is not a forum for your adolescent rants. Take your crap somewhere else and don't shamelessly bash other applicants. Good luck next year in your own cycle. You will need it with that attitude.
I was pretty pleased with the Match Day results. It is good to see FSU grads going to such great places.

And could we please keep the topic on FSU applications, questions about the school, and other on topic things? Thanks 🙂

Butler,

Where did you get such detailed information about fsu and uf matches?
This info u posted is very interesting i wish i could find these details for all florida schools

I know a number of people studying at the different schools, so most of my info comes by word of mouth. I would be nice if they did post how many people had to match during the scramble or how many people got their first choice. I do not think any medical school would post this information though.

Has anyone been asked to be apart of the Bridge Program yet?

Thank you

 Probably not, unless the number was zero.

From what I heard on interview day, I don't think you have to ask to be a part of the Bridge Program; they invite you for an interview along with everyone interviewing for med school, and later on (not sure when) you find out that you were actually interviewing to be part of the Bridge Program. If they like you, you'll be accepted into the Bridge Program rather than the med school.

It can't hurt to express your interest, though!

Read the post again. They said has anyone been asked? not has anyone asked to be.

They were asking just that, whether anyone has been invited to be part of it.

My bad.

Anyone know where to get some cheap first-year text books? Also, what are the best resources for gross?

There will probably be first years selling theirs soon. There's a text book resale board that you should take a look at. I'd definitely get a Netter's.

Interview invite yesterday. Complete 10/15. Theres hope yet for those of u still waiting! Good luck!

Hey 'surf,
1st years sell their books often, but I just bought everything from Amazon.

I wasn't much of a textbook guy the first year, but I'll give you some ideas... I like to buy books that will be useful for the boards in the future.

SUGGESTION: For classes other than anatomy, check the books out at the library before purchase... also, if you don't want to spend a lot of money, you can generally buy older editions

SUMMER SEMESTER

ANATOMY/EMBRYO/RADIOLOGY
Class materials: well organized, well thought out, perfect to study from and supplement with the following:

Suggested:BRS Anatomy... though somewhat wordy, I think the questions are great. I think it's a must buy. Netter's Atlas of Anatomy: Great anatomical illustrations.

Not required: Radiology book (available online as a "program"), Embryo Text (available in library; too detailed for general use)

FALL SEMESTER

NEUROANATOMY
Class Materials: although this is one of the best classes at FSU, the powerpoints and class materials are unorganized. Supplementation is required.

Suggested: High Yield Neuroanatomy, Basic Clinical Neuroanatomy (Young), Clinical Neuro Made Ridiculously Simple [you don't necessarily need all of these; High Yield will be most useful for boards]

MICROANATOMY
Class Materials: well organized; professors pulls a couple questions from context in textbook (Kierszenbaum) per exam

Suggested:Histology and Cell Biology (Kierszenbaum... I bought an older edition), Wheater's Histology

SPRING SEMESTER

PHYSIOLOGY
Class Materials incredibly well organized, but powerpoints somewhat dense

Sugguested: BRS Physiology is a must. You'll use it again for board studying. The textbook is written by the same author (Constanzo) and is also great if you like a lot of words.

BIOCHEMISTRY
Class Materials When I took the class, the materials were not well organized, but that was her first year teaching. Perhaps that will change when you get here.

Suggested: Some form of supplementation is necessary. Lippicott's Biochemistry (good if you like a lot of pictures/charts/diagrams); Rapid Review Biochemistry is a also good if you don't care so much about the pictures and is about 1/3 of the size of Lippincotts. (Both probably good for boards.)

ALL YEAR
Doctoring 1 Mosby's is required but I didn't own it or any doctoring books until the second year.

I'm sadden that I did not receive an invite from Fsu. I'm IS, with strong stats, and I feel like my Fsu secondary was my strongest out of a dozen others sent out. by far. Complete 9/17.

This cycle has left me with an alternate seat in Arkansas, an accepted/alternate seat with "good standing" at FIU, and waitlisted at BU.

I'm thankful for the opportunities, but personally, dissapointed and a little embarrassed. Let's all hope for the best in this crazy emotional rode to following our dreams.

are u saying u are rejected officially or did you just not yet get an interview invite? I thought they were still interviewing til April some point. Confused.

Is anyone still "Application Under Review by the Office of Admissions"? should I just count this as a rejection?😕

Mine is too, but from what people have been saying on this thread FSU interviews through April at some point so there is SOME hope!

I have been under review since Oct 5. Just sent an update letter in 2 days ago, hoping there is still hope :xf:

good to know that I'm not the only one freaking out. I also sent an update last week, and I'll be taking a tour of the school next week. I figure I should see the facilities and maybe meet some students/faculty.

Yeah I'm still under review. i honestly don't expect much from here. I just got rejected from USF today too. I think unless FAU gives me an interview its between wayne or UCF if one of the two accept me eventually.

Does anybody know the schedule for the Apr. 16 Open House?
Thanks

I have been accepted - woohoo! - and plan on attending but I have a question:

What's the worst you could do academically and still hold your acceptance slot? I've heard varying answers on this...

Yeah, I'm also under review still....I've already written 2 update letters. I think I'll write another one coming up to update them on my midterm grades (it'll be too late by the time the semester ends) and just pray for an interview here. Sighhhh FSU was really one of my top choices......

Anybody on "Hold" at FSUCOM hear anything yet about being moved to the "High hold" group? If I remember correctly, it was around this time last year that they did that.

I emailed Dana a couple months ago and she said that they are not ranking the applicants. Last week however, I talked to Dr. Leadem who informed me that they do rank the hold list, but do not tell the applicants since they don't know how many spots are opening up. I assume that last year, they sent that high hold notification to a few people who eventually didn't get accepted and want to prevent anyone's dreams from being crushed.

That being said, I would love to hear if anyone does get the high hold email notification.

Hope this helps.

thanks locus! Im doing just fine, but was just curious....and it's funny because this is the first semester that I am TOTALLY ok with getting all B's. Just gotta get through it!

To those of you that were accepted... do you happen to know what day/time your online status changed? From what I've read on here, we are notified of the Admissions decision on Wednesday, but I believe that the Committee meets the day before (Tuesday). Is there any chance that your status will reflect the decision on Tuesday?!

They told me Wed. at the interview as well, but I found out ~11am on thurs. by e-mail.

Hey guys I'll be a freshman this summer and I hope on eventually getting into FSUCOM. What would you recommend for shadowing, clinical experiences, and volunteering opportunities? Any input helps a lot, thank you!

I saw the status change at 3 PM and got a call at 430.

Hi guys! I plan on going to the open house on the 16th, but the schedule looks a little sparse... Does anyone know if there are any events planned afterwards with current med students or anything like that? Thanks!

I interviewed on March 25 and haven't heard anything either! I've been checking this forum obsessively trying to see if anyone else has. I'm hoping that we will hear something tomorrow... if not, give them a call on Friday?
