No I haven't heard ne thing either.....
According to my co-worker there was a storm in tallahsee a day or two ago that caused a massive power outage.... I think that maybe why.... I called today but no one answered!
Maybe tomorrow!

It wasn't that bad. It has been the week that the LCME has been here for our reaccreditation so everyone's been fairly busy with that. Hopefully you hear back soon!

Ah I see. Wow I thought they do that all in feb at all schools. i guess its scheduled differently from school to school.

Do you know if they are still giving out invites? I've heard nothing all season from them. I'm getting worried. When is their last interview invites?

I honestly have no idea. Those aren't things that they tend to tell us... I know that's not super helpful, sorry 🙁

MossPoh (I think) said a few months ago there were rumblings of FSU going to P/F next year. Has any progress been made on this or does anyone have info?

During my interview a few weeks ago they confirmed that they will be switching to p/f

Are you serious??!?!?!??! For the Entering class of 2015? If so, this makes me very happy.

Yep. Pass fail from day one for you guys. Pass/fail for second year for us.

:soexcited:

Many of us were quite pleased about having this for second year 🙂

Yep! P/f for our class

That sounds awesome.

Does FSU still have that required attendance and learning community style learning??

Or have they changed their curriculum style since those days?

Attendance isn't mandatory for lectures. Plus they're recorded so it's pretty much your call how you learn best.

And learning communities do exist. I don't forsee them ever changing that.

Ah I see. Yeah it used to be a mandatory attendance back some years ago. I figured as all schools eventually change policies FSU probably did. So I figured I'd ask you to verify if what I was suspecting to be true was just that.

Glad to see they changed that.

ACCEPTED!!!!!!! Status just changed on their website!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

Correct me if I'm wrong: the FSU COM acceptance deadline is mid-April (versus the general deadline of May 15)?

Can anyone comment?

Yep. We start in the summer so the acceptance deadline is earlier.

Don't get the wrong idea anybody; the April 15th deadline is not the deadline by which they have to tell you if you're accepted, it's the deadline by which YOU have to tell THEM if you want attend (if you've already been accepted). People get accepted/rejected after April 15th all the time (I know b/c it happened to me last year -- the latter, that is). One of my friends in c/o 2014 was the last person accepted off the waitlist and he got in like May 26th!

But believe me: I WISH they had to tell you by April 15th. I'm freakin tired of sittin on this waitlist 🙁

Hey, guys. Current 2015 admit here.

Quick question (and probably getting ahead of myself) but does anyone know if during 4th year we can do away rotations (for example, if we are interested in doing a residency at a certain hospital in a certain city or other state and not at the regional campus) or do we just stick to our regional campus from the get-go?

Thanks in advance for the answer!

It is my understanding that every med school allows for away rotations. There are electives at every med school in which time most people do this during that time. it is also during these sort of elective times in 4th year that people do international rotations and I know FSU has opportunities for that too.

I'd imagine FSU is no different as I've seen tons of people who I knew from my USF days that went to FSU med and matched at places that were away like Jville and AECOM.

You can definitely do away rotations. Either at other regional campuses or at other non-FSU affiliated programs all together. This is a common tactic for students applying to competitive residency programs. A one month away rotation allows them to show case their skills to a residency program director; helping them a ton during the match. This information comes directly from 4th years I have spoken with at FSU.

Agreed with all of the above quoted esp. the bolded. And it is pretty standard across all US MD medical schools that there are electives in 4th year in which time people can do this for a month.

At least that is the way I understand things.

Some people even use such 1 month electives to do a rotation overseas for an international medical experience.

Are you really? What superlative did you put me for? :d

I was glad I came last year. It's a good way to meet some future classmates and get a feel for the area.

Most officer positions held at one point in medical school 😀

Has anyone received a pre-interview rejection recently?? I haven't heard either way...

Nope! From what I've heard they could be coming soon though. FSU does interview through April (don't know how far), but you have to figure they've probably already filled all of the spots for this cycle. All of the rejections will probably come once they come out with final decisions and waitlist designations which I would think should be in the next 2 weeks.

Then mine must be coming soon. I don't think I'm getting an interview at this point. I've heard nothing yet from here or Miami. don't get it.

I'm in the same boat with both schools. Kinda struck me though that we all didn't get an email at the same time, but who knows they might be doing them in blocks or something.

Yeah you'd think they would just send the rejections all at once now that they at the end of the cycle.

it makes no sense.

I'm just praying one of my 2 schools that i interviewed at come through. God I wish a lot of people would just drop UCF so I could go there. But we will see what happens. I'm losing hope with time.

According to https://www.aamc.org/students/applying/amcas/153900/aamc_recommendations_for_applicants.html :

In fairness to other applicants, when an applicant has made a decision, prior to May 15, April 30 for MD-PhD applicants, not to attend a medical school or program that has made an offer of acceptance, the applicant promptly withdraw his or her application from that (those) other school(s) or program(s) by written correspondence delivered by regular or electronic methods.

By May 15 of the matriculation year (April 15 for schools whose first day of class is on or before July 30), April 30 for MD-PhD programs, each applicant who has received an offer of acceptance from more than one school or program choose the specific school or program at which the applicant prefers to enroll and withdraw his or her application, by written correspondence delivered by regular or electronic methods, from all other schools or programs from which acceptance offers have been received.

Immediately upon enrollment in, or initiation of an orientation program immediately prior to enrollment at, a U.S. or Canadian school or program, each applicant withdraw his or her application from consideration at all other schools or programs at which he or she remains under consideration.
Anyone know what we have to do if we get another acceptance between April 15 and enrollment? I know a lot of us are still on the UF hold list and expecting to hear a decision in "mid-April."

If an applicant receives another acceptance after the one-acceptance deadline (April 15th/30th or May 15th depending on the school/program), the applicant will receive an email from the school in question notifying him/her that she has X-number of days to decide and withdraw the other acceptances.

So should you be offered a spot at UF but have an FSU acceptance, FSU will most likely contact you saying you have X-number of days to make a decision. Some schools are super strict, like SUNY-Buffalo, which I think tries to push you into a decision in ~24hours. However, I do not believe FSU would do that.

If that should occur, you should make up your mind within the allotted time and notify both schools of your final decision (FSU AND UF), to ensure there is no confusion in the end what your final choice was.

Hope this helps.

I withdrew my acceptance from FSU today. Good luck to everyone waiting!!

Does anyone know anything about their financial aid packages yet? I haven't received anything and was accepted in Feb.? I keep checking the student toolkit but still nothing. Urgh!

They have everyone fill out the scholarship app over the summer.

I asked this in the UF thread and Neatloaf said he was accepted May 17th and was able to decline his acceptance to a summer starting program to go to UF. I suppose the same idea would apply.

Just turned down my acceptance, so hopefully one of you guys will get my spot soon! I had a really hard time deciding; this is a great school.

Hey everyone--I'm in the Hold boat too. I was told I was put there because of how late I applied (really stupidly complex story); by the time I interviewed (around St. Patty's Day), they had already reached their acceptance quota (you know, how most schools send out like twice as many acceptances as they have spots for), so most people since then have been put on hold or rejected, I guess not many outright acceptances...

But now it's after April 15! So hopefully we should see some movement and get some new acceptances soon! Anyway, I'm out of state (from Michigan), so I'm getting pretty tense about when we might hear anything 🙁 I've heard stories of past years when people heard really close to or even during orientation...and I don't want to hear and end up having no place to live if I get in! AH!

Also, I heard there are not many people at all on the hold list, so I suppose that's a good sign!

Idk, I guess I just wanted to say hi...and I that I hope we all get good news soon!!!
