On their website, it says 223 out of 300 interviews have already been offered. http://www.oakland.edu/?id=16098&sid=340

I am probably not getting one 🙁

Note, however, that the website says "Anticipated Number of Interviews: 300"

It really would not surprise me if they offered more than 300 interviews, but maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part. They've offered 75% of anticipated interviews with 3.75 months left in their interview season (which is 8 months long)...

I got an interview invite on 11/27, so I don't think that mine, and possibly others were included in the 223. I did decline very recently though, hope it goes to someone here.

When were you complete?

But people had the opportunity to schedule interviews several months ahead of time. For example, my invite came in early October and my interview is mid December.

Remember, they somehow have to choose only 50 people out of all of the people they are interviewing, so I wouldn't be suprised if they stopped at 300. There is still 25% left to give out and most people have already submitted their applications.

Does anyone know when they send out their first acceptances?

Just got an email saying they have placed me on hold for further reconsideration in the spring 🙁 anyone else get this email today?

Sorry you guys have to wait, but at least you've heard something from them. I've gotten nada. I wonder what this means for those of us still waiting.

Sorry, but are you pre or post interview?

this is pre interview...I was just kind of wondering if they had sent out any flat out rejections or if they put most people on hold. I'm assuming they're putting most people on hold...

Well it could mean that they didn't review your application yet. If they didn't review it they can't put you on hold! I was complete mid September so if you were complete after this you are probably fine!

I didn't get any email either. I thinks its a silent rejection...

ha they're a private school. they explained on interview day how they have no incentive to prefer Michigan residents.

They say this but on my interview day about 9/13 were from MI. Do you think they just got way more applicants from MI?

you know what sus, you make a good point, I believe half of the interviewees on my date were from MI. They do probably have more applicants from MI since everyone in MI is more familiar with Oakland U in general than most OOSers. That said, they may have an internal slight preference with MI residents, but I don't think so. They're interview day was impressive and it seems like they want to choose very diverse students who will represent a good first class.

50 acceptances/ 300 interviews!
What stats!

Congrats to everyone who got in!!!

I am interviewing there in Jan (yay!) would those of you who interviewed mind posting some of the tougher/interesting/surprising questions they gave you?

Also, is there a lot of walking? (I know this sounds dumb) but I'm a girl, and I'm trying to decide what shoes to wear.

thanks 🙂

Ha no need for walking shoes, not that much walking was involved It might snow so bring clothes to keep you warm when walking outside. No tough/surprising questions at least w/ my interviews. Different interviewers can ask different questions ergo your interviewer could throw you hard questions. Questions seemed standard, about your background, etc.

Maybe it's from a combination of more MI applicants and them selecting interviewees who they think will actually attend.

I personally thought this tour involved more walking than others I've been on. We walked around the first building we were in then outside and around the library, over to and through the athletic complex, and back to the library later on... and there was a tour of the hospital too. It was kinda snowy and windy on my day so maybe it seemed like more than it really was.

I didn't get any particularly tough or surprising questions.

Has anyone who had an interview in November heard anything yet? Or remember them mentioning when we might here?

AM, I expect them to release the next batch of acceptances sometime soon since it's been awhile. But yeah they have not mentioned at all exact dates for notifications. I just remember them saying that it would take a long time.

Opps..I meant "hear".

And DoctaFuture, I think they mentioned maybe hearing sometime in the middle of December but I wouldn't be surprised if it took even longer.

congrats to everyone who got accepted!

i interviewed on Oct 8, and stats are 3.41/35 for those who are interested.

It might be better to rent a car. Check out the rates. It might be cheaper overall. B/c you're going to have to go to the hotel, go to school, go from hotel back to airport. So it'll add up in cabfare + that 20 from the hotel.

Can anyone who has already interviewed/anyone who knows tell me what time the interview day is supposed to end by? I couldn't find it on their website, and the Admissions Office is on vacation...

Thanks for the suggestion... I'll look into that too... though I personally prefer not to have to worry about parking and figuring out where I'm going... but if it turns out cheaper and nobody else could share cabs, that's definitely a good option.

I would def rent a car, much more convenient if you want to get food, etc. It is about an hr drive to the school. parking is easy to get, and way cheaper then a taxi.

As for the interview day. I believe they wrap up about 5pm, however as there are not a lot of late flights out of Detroit (especially to the west coast) they are super flexible and more then willing to accommodate anyone that has to leave early (like I did).

Oh and by the way, you are going to love this school

Thanks! Well that's two people for the rent-a-car option, so I'm leaning that way. I also checked rates, and it's not too bad - most cities charge extra for renting from the rent-a-car in the airport, but seems like in Detroit they have pity on people since the car companies made development of public transportation close to nil. And hey, this may be an excuse to take an extra day and visit a friend I have in Ann Arbor.

Just an FYI, I was able to book a car from" Budget" through Hotwire for $22 a day. It's worth it to check out websites like travelocity, orbitz etc.
Don't bother with extra insurance from the company, your own collision/comprehensive coverage will cover the rental if it's damaged.

Good luck!

edit: Also, booked a room at the Wingate through hotels.com for < $45.

September interview...lost hope but just got an admitted call on 1/4!!
3.9 cGPA and 30 S MCAT 27 on retake

Good luck ya'll!!

I interviewed in November and was accepted today 🙂

nice guys, amn or saish, are you going to go to oakland you think?

umm..I'm strongly considering it because it really is an awesome school, but it also depends on the financial aid package. So far, I am also gravitating towards Rush University in Chicago.

Well congratulations to my favorite Analrapist!

I ignored a call from an "Unknown" number yesterday and they didn't leave a voice mail. Now I'm worried that it could have been Oakland. :/

They would definitely leave a voice mail.

I'm still waiting to hear from some places and haven't decided on anywhere yet, so I'm not sure yet...

Also, sustentacular, I didn't answer and they left me a voicemail that said to call them back.

As requested,
interviewed 1/7: 29mcat, 3.71

The school looks really nice, and the staff is very friendly. I'd be happy to attend there.
😀
