I think its Tucson. I just called them and they said they sent out the acceptance emails about an hour ago.

Thanks...... Unfortunately I think I and a lot of us are going to find out towards the end of the cycle like most do... Still fun to hope for a pleasant surprise and Phoenix should send out e-mails after 5pm....

Tucson campus, via e-mail, at 1:15pm eastern time (think that's 10:15am out west). Which means I lost my mind at about 1:16pm. 🙂 I seriously hope everyone gets to experience this feeling... Makes up for all the hard work I swear.

Are you sure they are sending those out at 5? I have been trying to get a hold of someone in the admissions office, but it keeps going to the voicemail.

I don't know for a fact, but the last two waves from Phoenix have been pretty promptly after 5pm on Fridays as reported previously on this thread, let me/us know if you hear something else....... good luck

If you're not accepted at UA PHX immediately following the next round of acceptances after your interview day do you have to wait until March (?) to hear about your status, or is there still the potential for receiving an acceptance every two weeks until next spring? Thanks!!

Yup, you will be eligible for each release date.

Still potential to receive an acceptance every two weeks until next spring. Ms. Cunningham gave a very thorough presentation of the admissions process at the end of the interview day, granted a lot of us may have been pretty zonked after a long interview day and MMI's. Be nice to get a copy of the presentation she gave for reference, but I am still very gracious she took the time to tell us that much to begin with.

Thanks!! Do you know if every app get reviewed again each time? I wonder how this works?

Paraphrasing from the post-interview haze, I think that everyone's app has a particular placement in their respective 'pile', and if it floats to the top by a release date, they give you an acceptance. Take this with a grain of salt though

"Paraphrasing the haze" haha.. you mean the 4 sub-committees made up of 3 people, taking your stats and interview score and coming up with an acceptability score that is sent to two other people to decide compare these scores and admits the best of each sub -committee and then everyone going back into the new pile with fresh blood and ranks..... uh oh I think my brain just stopped............................. oh there it goes again........

Accepted! PHX campus. OOS Wiche applicant. Re-applicant (WLed last time)

Congrats! How does the whole Wiche thing work? Does that help people in Arizona too (who apply to Wiche states)? Is it something you have to apply for separately?

Wiche is a program for states that don't have medical schools. (MT, WY, ID, AK). And basically those states help fund their students who get into "wiche schools". So basically UofA treats me as if I'm instate, because I'm a wiche applicant from Montana.

You being from AZ, you pay instate anyway so you wouldn't apply that way.

Do you know how many they accepted in Tucson? and how many do they generally accept in each wave?

Typically around 15 people per wave. There has only been one wave so far, so don't fret if you haven't heard anything.

I was just reading through the forum from last year, and it was surreal to see so many people eagerly awaiting updates in the same fashion as we are now. But, towards the end, a number of SDNers were accepted, and virtually the last 15 pages of the 2014 thread are celebratory. Let's hope to see the same thing this year!

On a side note, I manage a Breast Cancer lab by day, and one of the undergrads that I mentor was accepted on Friday. It was great to see how thrilled she was, because I remember studying for the MCAT together at the beginning of the year, and it gives me hope that I can feel the same thing too in the coming months.

Her stats were similar to mine, but without the Master's degree...so I think that there's room to be hopeful.

IS
3.5 cGPA
3.4 sGPA
4.00 Grad GPA in cell/molecular bio.
27P

Cheers

I know how you feel. All I can think about is how wonderful it would be to receive an acceptance to U of A. I'm sure that my family is so sick of hearing all about a school I haven't even gotten into yet! I did have a question though: Does U of A-Tucson have a portal where I can check my status like U of A-Phx?

From what I can tell, both schools just have a portal for the secondary application and nothing beyond that.

I know what you mean though. My soon to be wife has had to listen to me talk about prepping for med school for nearly 5 years now, so needless to say, SDN has recently become my haven for addressing my med school queries/compulsive curiosities. Moreover, I am convinced that med school is going to be the coolest thing ever, once I finally get there.

Phoenix has an applicant tracking site for the entire process, along with a new student portal that lists everyone accepted thus far, plus other info like second look weekend and orientation, oh and a cool (fun, silly) video that is actually used to announce acceptance offers. I was previously accepted and just got the video link - they said it was delayed due to production. seems reasonable considering I am pretty sure there was a shot at the Grand Canyon. Kinda cool.

That sounds like a pretty cool video. I'll have to see if I can get my hands on it. You guys certainly got the red carpet rolled out for you, we didn't get anything like that...🙂

I'm in the video. Look out for the really handsome dude on the doctoring exam table. 😎

Shep, you're just not good looking enough to have made the cut. Sorry man.

CONGRATULATIONS acceptees! 👍

Did she get accepted to UA Tuscon or Phoenix?

Hey Congrats man. I remember rooting for you last year. 👍

Any idea on the number of applicants accepted thus far at Tucson and Phoenix?

A whole bunch of you must be thinking "oh wow, even after Shep responded with an insult of greater magnitude MadEvans took the high road and didn't fall for the bait. Turning the other cheek! How grand it must be to be a mature second year."

I just want to let everyone know that BabyEvans sent me a PM in which he, misspelling my name, blubbered like a little girl about how I hurt his feelings and how he vowed to make fun of the way I dress (hipster chic with a dash of 90s grunge) every time he sees me in the future. To which I respond- Evans, if you spent more time practicing volleyball and less time writing angry little rants you'd be slightly less worse at volleyball.

P.S.
He started it.

Congratulations? I think even though your profile says pre-pharm you're talking about med school because I don't think a four year pharm program opens in Phoenix until 2012 but I could be wrong.

Man All this waiting is making me go crazy haha. Interviewed at phoenix campus in early october. Interviewed at tucson campus early november and still haven't got a word back. Maybe writing a letter of intent might help... Or even showing my face to admissions at least.

Stats:

Cum GPA 4.0
Sci GPA 4.0
1st MCAT 22L
2nd MCAT 27Q

Good luck to all you guys.

Regarding update letters, I encourage you to write one if you've done things recently that aren't reflected on your application. Personally though, I don't really see the worth in the love letter varieties (my opinion). I'm not sure which variety you were thinking about writing.

Also, assuming "showing your face" means visiting the office in person (rather than sending a signed head shot 😉), I don't know that it would be worth the effort if your intent is solely to improve your chances. I can't imagine how your visit could be conveyed in your file. The people in the admissions office aren't generally on the actual committees, and the most they could really do would be to write a note saying "aabidali came in to the office today to say hello. We shared a snickers bar and had a pleasant chat about frisbee golf. He seems like a fine young man."

Love letters and small talk won't hurt your chances either, so you can certainly feel free to do those things anyway if you have the time.

You bring up some good points. I guess we will see if it helps or not. Might as well give it a shot.

I wasn't entirely sure what you meant by showing your face. Now that I have a little better grasp of what I'd say it probably isn't the best idea, but that's just my opinion. It might come off as being a little too desperate.

I agree with Shep that actually going to the school and just chilling with the office staff probably won't help, and will probably come off a bit weird/creepy...I think sending an email stating that you would very much like to attend a given school is a much better way to go. This being said, i don't think premeds currently applying to medschool have ever been good at playing hard to get...at a certain point desperate is all you've got 😀

Even if it is weird/creepy (and I don't necessarily agree that it is), I don't think it would matter for the same reasons that I stated before--the visit can't really be conveyed in a meaningful way to the members of the committee. Perhaps the note would then be "aabidali came in to the office today to say hello. He wanted to share his snickers bar with me. I HATE SNICKERS!!! He also conveyed a love of frisbee golf that goes far beyond normal limits. He does not seem like a fine young man."

Visiting the office does not exactly constitute a second interview.

Shep is also involved in a bizarre love polygon with several of our class members, the lunch lady, and the 12:05pm bus driver. -Shrug-

What!? I feel so betrayed. I'm finding a new UA COM-Phx 2011 prom date.

Hi! Is there a way to check to make sure that UA-Tucson received our acceptance materials? Thanks!
