Darn! I just found out a couple hours ago that my latest manuscript was accepted. It would have been nice to send that update....

The good news is that I am becoming quite excellent at "being patient". If nothing else comes out of this cycle, at least I will have learned how to be a great wait-er.

Congrats PsychDO!!!

And thanks Rustin, I really appreciate it. I think I have actually seen that graph. I perused some of the postings from last year at one point...

Thanks! Its always nice to see your hard work appreciated.

I've seen the graph, too... back when I read the entire 2009-2010 UA saga. It was gripping.

Ah the nostalgia . . . not really. I feel bad for all the anxiety and drama I may have helped create last year.

Hopefully I can help the wait pass easier, and more calmly for some of you 😀

Here's the graph for anyone who hasn't taken the plunge into posts of the past:

If admissions hasn't changed much, then I'd expect a similar trend to last year's WL, but you never know what could happen.

So if I were still waiting to hear something, I'd just relax. Worrying wont make the acceptance gods change their mind (I wish I had taken this counsel last year). Just make sure you have a backup plan, relax, and focus on whatever you're currently working.

You may consider visiting campus or something if you live close and haven't been besides your interview. Other than that, just say your prayers, make some burnt offerings, and do whatever else you do to find favor or calm your nerves. Go hike the Narrows - it might make you forget about the whole med school application process . . . maybe 😎

PM me if you have any questions, I wont really be on here much till mid-March-ish.

Edit: Just a parting thought: I will actually match and graduate when you do because I'm enrolled in the MD/MPH program - so I figure I might as well get to know some of you peeps in advance 😀

I'm a re-applicant this year and have gotten accepted. The difference maker for me this year was me getting my CNA and working in a nursing home. This experience allowed me to write a better personal statement and have some good ammunition for interviews. If I could go back I would have gotten my EMT or CNA years ago.

Wow! Nice job ShameFame! - UofA Phx right?

The only reason I don't have your username is because I figured that SOMEBODY must have taken it in the million years that student doctor's been around. Curses!

Good to see you back on the boards Rustin. What made you ditch the old name? How's T-town working out for you? And I've been meaning to ask one of you kids but do you have an older guy in your class? Like mid-50s? I interviewed with him and he's not at Phoenix so I was wondering if he got in down south.

Yes sir! Last year, I had 4 interviews and 1 WL (phx) and never got accepted...

This year... 10 interviews! 3 acceptances so far! 1 WL, and I'm still waiting on post interview decisions from 5 schools!

Amazing what one year of cleaning poop can do!

I thought this name might be taken but guess not! It's the little things that count most but sometimes, big positive news is good too - wink wink! May the Force be with us all.

thank you very much for this nice graph🙂

does the y-axis represent the total number on the waitlist, or the number of applicants previously on the waitlist whom were granted offers of acceptance? i move for the latter because it wouldn't seem logical to increase the number of waitlisted students

also, how many students matriculate at tuscon?

The y-axis is the number of people pulled INTO the acceptance pile FROM the waitlist and of course, the x axis is time. So as you can see, as time goes on, more and more people are pulled off of the waitlist...how depressing would it be if this was one of the graphs for an MCAT passage? -LOL!

Number of students I believe is 115 that matriculate - about 130-140 are accepted though - rough estimate. 80 seats have been filled and they have 35 more to give out. So if you are not one of the 35 come next wave, don't give up hope, as there is significant waitlist movement at UofA - especially Tucson. Being accepted this way may seem anticlimactic, but adventure--excitement--a Jedi craves not these things so just hang in there and have faith in the Force.

It's interesting how many more people got accepted off of the waitlist last year compared to 2009 and before... Think it's because of the OOS students?

I think it's a mixture of OOS as well as the increasing appeal of the Phoenix campus.

Do they actually give you a rank when they waitlist you or is it one of those upper quartile lower quartile, or call us to find out deals?

Phoenix will just inform you that you are either on the waitlist or you aren't, Tucson will give you your exact position on it.

Does anyone know when the next wave from Tucson might come? I'm not sure but I'm just guessing... last week of February?

I believe that it is actually the first couple days in march.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I contacted UA about adding my article to my file and they were fine with that. If anyone else has something they would like to add to their file, I'd say give it a try!

Who did you send it to? Where did you send it to? Etc. Thanks!

Depends, UofA Phx is still adding items to student files. UofA Tucson is not adding anything more at this point - just checked.

Yes, I assumed since Phx accepted my update, Tucson would as well. Unfortunately, I haven't heard back from them. I just e-mailed them with my update request and the article citation, and Phx said they would add it to my file. Tucson hasn't said anything, which I assume is bad news.

@ MWLH...We passed that around our lab just last week 🙂

Yeah-I called Tucson and they said that they did not accept any more info. Now, it's just a waiting game.

I don't think Tucson is as lenient on adding things to your file this late.

Rustin's tearin' **** up down here. Having kids left and right. Easily 14...that he knows of.

I think our oldest student is 32. Rumor is the guy in his mid-50's was accepted to Phoenix AND Tucson, but they revoked their acceptances because he was illegally buying Viagra from Mexico...

So what you're telling me is that I should go ahead and withdraw my application?

Does anyone know the status on the Phoenix admissions? With only 48 spots, I'm assuming they have more than filled them by now? Do they have any more waves of acceptances or does it go straight to the waitlist now?

to my understanding, phoe-town only has 40 spots. they accept more than that because many people will have different options, so it is irrelevant to wonder how many spots have been handed out at this point. it will be much more pertinent once the wait-list is released

there is one more wave at the end of this month, and the subsequent wait-list is released early next month (in the first few days i believe)

Agreed. As of Feb 1 I believe they had already sent out about 90 acceptances - this according to Tara. They really "over-accept".

I just want to say good luck to all you guys waiting on an acceptance, and to let you know that I am holding a spot at U of A that I will most likely be releasing pretty soon. It's not much, but it's at least one more spot available to you! Peace.

Just a friendly correction: it was made very clear on interview day that Phoenix is slated for 48 slots for the 2011-2012 incoming year. I have no direct knowledge of how many have been accepted at this point, but Tara mentioned it was around 8 per release date, so if anyone knows how many release dates there have been then it would be easy to get an approximate number. There is only one more acceptance release date prior to the release of waitlist (unranked publicly) and rejection.

Yes, only 48 spots... but they 'over' accept, meaning they accept more people than they have spots for (very common for med-school admissions). I don't think they are increasing their class size until next year.

Just dropping by to say Go Cats today - beat the Huskies! 😎

Congrats! Are you going to Experimental Biology? My poster is on Monday but I think I will stay the whole week in DC.

No, although, Experimental Biology would be a cool conference to go to. The guy heading the Lymphovascular Mets conference is a UCSF surgeon that I just finished writing a manuscript with. That's how the opportunity to present came about.

Awesome...totally makes sense...congrats again!

UACOM-PHX students (or anyone else who has some insight)...

Is there a certain "type" of applicant that PHX seems to like? I know there are many schools out there that have a certain "fit" that they're looking for, so I was wondering what UA-PHX's would be, if any. Notice any trend amongst your classmates, or what type of applicants get in?

Three words...Wildcat facial tattoos.

JK...I have no specific knowledge of a particular type. Some people I know that have been successful have varying backgrounds. Good luck 🙂.

Hello everyone... Just spoke with UACOM-PHX admissions. Looks like the last wave of acceptances will be at the end of this week and the waitlist goes out March 4th. :luck:
