Hi all! Status complete as well. West coast OOSer here with ties to Kansas. My stats are competitive but I know the odds are still stacked against me. Hoping for the best.

Interview or no interview, I have plans to move to Lawrence by January and it would be great to meet some of you! I'm still oggling over how cheap/reasonable the rent is over there. We're currently paying $1300/mo for a one bedroom (average price in these parts) which still makes me nauseous.

Hi! Welcome and good luck to you!

$1300 a month? That's unbelievable.

Welcome and good luck with the move!

Hey everybody. I was listed as complete on 8/3/10 and was wondering if anyone knew when they start sending out interview invites.

Thanks!

I think at the end of this month, which is about 3 more weeks so people can have at least 2 weeks to prepare for the interviews =D.

I applied EDP last year and the interviews were 9-14 to 9-16. I am pretty sure they didn't send out invitations for EDP interviews until 9-4, so only 10 days to get ready. I am pretty sure that was unusually late but apparently their were an inordinate number of EDP applicants last year, and RD too.
I am not bragging that I am an expert or anything but if anyone wants the feedback of someone who went through it once before I have some insight. I would recommend trying to find some way to distract yourself while you're doing all of this waiting. It is horrible to wait around to hear about your possible future.
Also, prepare for your interview. Don't just know your answers, say them. Say them to yourself, your cat, anyone that will listen. I guarantee no matter how well you think you know how you feel about medicine, those interviewers will make you second guess yourself. So be strong in your answers but not rehearsed (thats the struggle). Read your personal statement and know it inside and out. And start now. Get a set of interview questions and go over as many as you can. Even ones you don't expect.
Try not to freak out. Stay calm and focus on now. It's a long wait if you don't get in EDP so be ready for that no matter how competitive you are. Hope this helps someone. I wished someone would have told me this before my interview and waiting session.

Sorry an addition to my last post. When you answer questions don't let them try to make you back pedal. If you think that health care reform (which they will ask you about) is the worst thing ever and they are all about it don't back down. They want you to stick to your opinion. This is why they used to ask the abortion question (which I am pretty sure they are not allowed to do anymore). But don't be stubborn or appear that you are not open minded. In the critique of my interview they complimented me on my ability to consider alternatives while sticking to my convictions.
Also they will ask you an ethics question. If the question is what do you do if you see someone cheating, say that you will turn them in. Make the point that this is medicine and it could just as well be a persons life that was being cheated. If they ask about organ recipients drinking alcohol or something to that effect I have no advice. I admitted that I wasn't fully aware of the codes of ethics for organ donation but the rules are there for a reason.
Sorry for all the rambling. 🙂

Thanks for the info Julies! Hmmm.......if I were the physician I would give the organ to the recipient who will maximize the life of it. There's a liver to give, when a recipient who is best matched but an alcoholic.......probably isn't a good idea lol. Any ideas guys? Here's another question "Interviewer: what annoys you about other people?" lol

When people don't use their blinkers when making a turn and drive really slow in the left lane! 😡 😀

That is probably my biggest driving pet peeve. I'm all about interstate etiquette.

Interesting about the ethics questions. Do you think the interview style/format is pretty much the same for EDP and RD?

Hmm...I thought the correct answer was the highest bidder :meanie:

They said no right or wrong answers lol......cage fight for the liver would probably work too lol...survival of the fittest =D

Got my MCAT score, confused as all hell. Not only is my score the same as it was last time, i got the exact same P/V/B/WS breakdown as I got 3 years ago. I called AAMC to verify it and its legit. The guy on the phone acted shocked too. This is good news for me, because the only reason I retook it was because KU doesn't consider scores older than 3 years. If you're curious to know what it is, check my MDApps.

Great to hear the good news lol....have you been working on interviewing? Hopefully 3 more weeks and they'll start sending out emails =D

Wow congrats Omzy! Hey if you don't mind me asking, what kind of volunteering and how much had you done last cycle? Like it says in your MDapps it was spotty, what does that mean?

Well congrats!

Last night I had a dream, that I had a dream I logged into my MEDS and saw the words "You have been accepted!" and when I woke up in my dream I hurried to my computer to check out my MEDS page - I woke up before I could confirm in my dream that I got in.

I don't mind, I basically hadn't volunteered at all in the traditional sense since high school. So I included some of those high school experiences on the app. Bad idea. This time its an entirely different story though.

Oh I see. Well good luck on this cycle!

I did not get in. I was placed #42 on the alternate list. Pretty much a bummer. I am reapplying this year EDP. I was told that last year there were more that twice as many applicants as normal and that happens every couple of years and then the numbers go back to normal. I am hoping that is true and we all have a much better shot this year. Last year they also did EDP interview different for the first time. They used to pick people with the highest numbers, KS residents, etc. Last year they said that they interviewed a lot of re-applicants and took other things into consideration. So, if you meet those EDP suggestions (KS resident, GPA 3.6, MCAT 28???? Not sure exactly what they are) and you don't get an EDP interview try not to be discouraged. But they may go back to the way it was before. Who knows!!!

Julies, any particular reason why you weren't accepted if you don't mind me asking? =). Mine was shadowing...yea just that.....this year I'm more improved and ready to roll at any time =D

Nice!

I'm still waiting on letter writers, they've had all summer.... I need those letters!!!

call or email them every few days. they ussually get really busy and they forget they have letters to submit. i just got all mine in last week, took a lot of emails for the last 2 letters

complete!

does it say complete on the MEDS site after you log in?

they have my secondary and fee. and it only says 1 letter received, which is odd because it was the last letter uploaded to amcas. all my other letters were designated to kansas since a few weeks back and it says nothing about those on the MEDS site. i dont get it. 😕

Yeah one of them cut it close. But they're all in. I assigned 3 letter writers before the letters were in but had 6 writers altogether. One of those 3 didn't submit so I had to sub in the sixth.... make sense? haha, well anyways I have 5 in and none of them should be too harsh so I'm good to go

are you regular decision? my guess is they don't plug your letters into the system until closer to the deadline.

Yeah, after you log in, on the first page, underneath "Type of Material", on the last line it says "File Complete" and then lists the date.

Hope that helps.

I might call. I'm OOS and regular decision and my letters were uploaded all together on 8/5 and I was complete as of today.

Alright, got my 'File Complete' on 8/10 when my MCAT score was released. Guess they needed that first 🙄

yea im regular decision, im guessing they just haven't entered all my letters into the system yet

thanks! because before i had no idea what i was looking for to know whether it was complete or not. ill keep checking til it says complete.

I noticed 4 of my letters were entered in like a week before my 5th and they were all sent in at the same time by amcas. Not sure what their process is.

So... who's checking their MEDS page everyday?

Me. haha, and checking for my MCAT score even though tmrw is the release date.

lol - I check this thread first, then if there are no new posts, I check the MEDS page. I was making sure that we all weren't checking this thread first! ha ha ha

I also checked the MCAT thread first.

Just to see if anything's changed.

Haha, yeah like I know what there will be on the MEDS page (no change) but I do it anyways. Like checking an old e-mail account, you know there will be spam but you do it just because.

So true. I forget I havean old email account and every once in awhile ill remember and have to check it. Lol

Anyone been to the new water park in salina yet?

Page 9.

No, but you may have just given me a reason to put Salina as my #1 pick.
BWSTW: lol, I used to go to the cosmosphere a lot for the IMAX theater during middle and high school years.
Where are you from Lostking? You seem to like Salina a lot haha. I become depressed whenever I go there =D
