Invites have already gone out for late January.

Feb. 16, 17 & 18 are the last possible dates to interview. Most OOS interviews are done in Jan/Feb so don't give up hope.

..but you'll get the invite the last week of january if you'll get in that last interview block.

If you're in-state though...and you didn't apply a day before the deadline...I would send a L.O.I. ASAP !

I hope this helps...

Here's more interview advice that I picked up from a recent Office marathon.

Is this the last block they are doing all interviews, or just oos?

Is this the last block they are doing all interviews, or just oos?

This is the last possible interview block for KU this season. There are no interviews after this for anyone.

They don't only interview OOS in Jan/Feb, but Jan/Feb is when the majority of OOS students are interviewed.

If you look in your KU application welcome email it outlines the interview dates for the year and indicates that the Feb. dates is the last interview block for this season.

Sorry if this is bad news. 🙁

Hey just curious who all is interviewing January 25th? If so and you live in Lawrence... what do you think about getting together and practicing interview questions?

I interviewed yesterday. I was an EDP reject and it was my second shot this round. I really like my interviewers. They were very nice and very easy to talk to. I hope that everyone else has a good experience.

Ok, does anyone know where I send an updated transcript to? Thanks in advance!

For AMCAS? I had to do that too.

"
Registrars should forward transcripts to:
AMCAS—Attn: Transcripts AAMC Medical School Application Services
P.O. Box 57326
Washington, D.C. 20037
"

from https://www.aamc.org/students/applying/amcas/96302/amcas_contactus.html

But I had to/wanted to overnight it and I remember asking them if there was a non PO box to send it to. The lady at AMCAS said to just ship it to their main office here and make sure to put the ATTN line on it
"
[Attn: Transcripts AAMC Medical School Application Services]
Association of American Medical Colleges
2450 N Street, NW
Washington, DC 20037-1126
"
from

https://www.aamc.org/44862/contact.html

But I called AMCAS first (202) 828-0600.

I hope that helps! For sending it to KU (for proof of degree once matriculating), I have no idea.

rooting for you julies, hopefully your interviewers came away with a better (and more accurate) impression of you than last time.
omzy and drak, how'd it go?

mcreed if you do some practice interviewing make sure you're practicing questions from the interview feedback. of the questions not relevant to my specific file, about 95% of them were previously listed there in the interview feedback. so it's seriously a great resource for interview prep.

I'm glad to be back after being gone for a while =). I've been traveling =D. To be honest, I don't know how the day went. I interviewed this week and in the evening, so the interviewers seemed worn out. My interviewers in the second interview were yawning and one of their phones went off. I shouldn't say anything before I get the results, which would be 2-3 weeks from now (Jan. 21st?).

Omzy, what do you think about your recent interviews at KU? I felt welcomed with my first interview, but unwelcomed from the beginning to the very end with my second one 🙁....so I don't know.......best of luck to you though! :luck:

Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear and interview.

For those that have already been accepted, have you gotten your acceptance packet yet or called admissions or anything letting them know you were going or what the next step was? Feels weird getting the acceptance and then not knowing what to do next or when we have to put down a deposit or give a yes or no.

Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

WL22 - Glad you posted this question. I was accepted the end of November and haven't received anything by mail since the acceptance letter. The letter said I would receive more information later in the "fall", but so far, nothing. I considered sending an e-mail to admissions, but haven't yet.

Hey, thanks for asking guys, and good luck to you as well Drak. :luck:

I felt good about both interviews. Both were with older male physicians and I only had one interviewer for the second. I stumbled into the first one because I was a bit nervous, it being the first interview of the cycle and all, but I finished strong and I think he got a good impression from me. The second interview went just about as well as I could ask for. I made sure to address the weak spot that Sandy brought up to me last time (motivations for recent volunteer work).

Although I always feel confident about my interviews, I keep getting bad news 🙁. I am very hopeful this time, though, since I have improved upon my experiences considerably and feel much more ready to begin.

I also interviewed at University of Arkansas the Saturday after my KU interview, which was crazy since I drove to both places. Felt like I had a strong performance there. Still have to interview at OU and Mizzou at the end of the month, so there is travel yet to be done.

Anyone interviewing anywhere else or is that blasphemous? 😛

waitlist22 so you got accepted? No more waitlist? Congrats! I have been wondering about the package too, and also the whole financing bit. I looked at last year's KU thread and I remember someone mentioning the admissions packaging taking several months.

And good luck Omzy!

Hopefully things will go well for you this year! My second interview from the interview day has been bothering me.....I felt a bad vibe from the interviewers for the whole time....felt like I blew it...my first interviewer was very supportive...I don't know...I guess Jan. 21st is the day? They told us the letters could be delayed into the following week, but they really want to get things done before the next interview days.

Congrats to those who got accepted and good luck to those still waiting!

I haven't received any packages but I've only received information about setting up a kumc email account. It got me pretty excited for a while but I've only received general campus-wide emails about research opportunities and newsletters.

Don't let it bother you too much. During my second interview, one of the interviewers kept looking at the clock the whole time which bothered me for a while but it turned out just fine. Cross fingers!

One of the M1's told me during my interview day last year that, in regards to KUMC's promptness.... "If they set a deadline for you, it is a solid deadline. If they give a deadline for themselves, it is more of a rough approximation." Don't worry, the packets will come. Everything you will need to do before starting in the fall can be done very quickly (deposit, immunizations, scholarship apps, etc).

In regards to second interviews, assuming they haven't changed to system from last year, it is the first interviewer who will actually represent you when the committee reviews your application post-interview. So if you had to have a weaker interview, the second one is the ideal one.

JK47-

Yeah I got in this year right before Christmas. Was a reapplicant and was waitlisted at 3 schools last year which is when I set up this profile haha. Congrats on your acceptance as well!

I am still interviewing other places but it certainly makes it less stressful knowing you already have an acceptance somewhere. I'll most likely end up at KU even if I get in everywhere but just want to see what else is out there.

THank you guys for your support! I hope it wasn't a big deal...

Who knows the dates for the last invitation. Interviewed last year.

First off, congrats to those accepted and good luck to those still waiting. I'm sending good vibes 🙂

I'm applying next cycle and I'm out of the country right now with the Peace Corps. I'm applying regular decision, hopefully as early as possible (June 1st!). I'm probably going be coming home from late September until early November to visit family and do med school interviews. How receptive should I expect KU to be to me requesting an interview for during that time period? I mean, that's the best I can do, so it had better work, but am I going to get shut down?

Thanks guys and keep up the good work!

Kansaskid

The email that the admissions office sent out said this "We reserve November 29 interviews for applicants who will travel long distances back to Kansas for the Thanksgiving holiday". Maybe a little late for you assuming they do the same or similar thing next year. But there was a RD round Nov 8-10 and the very first RD round of interviews Oct 13-15. Applying early should help I assume. They may also be interviewing EDP to RD invites during those rounds. Others in that situation would know better than me though. I applied 8/26, secondary submitted 9/8, interview invite received 11/2 for 12/1 interview date. I don't know if it would be harmful to put this type of request on the secondary application, but an email to the admissions office once you submitted it might be ok. Sorry if I'm not much help! Take all advice with a grain or two of salt.

Yeah, still crossing fingers and waiting for interview invite -- am oos --
but on that transcript info. I realized that AMCAS has info that says you have updated info in your file, but they don't really post your grades, etc. I hurried up and sent my transcripts straight to the schools I'm waiting on.
I've got some great grades last semester and really hoping that helps them make a good choice -- me!

Where/who did you send your transcripts for KU to?

Hello friends! I am interviewing this Monday the 24th and am currently staying in Lawrence. I have my car with me but it is only 2 wheel drive and is rather lacking in horsepower; I have already managed to nearly get stuck once due to snow caching and icing up the grooves in my tires (which are not snow tires). In short, I'm a west coaster with no idea how to drive on icy/snowy roads, probably even with chains. What's the best way to guarantee I make it to Kansas City for my interview? I was considering the taking Amtrack to KC on Sunday morning and staying overnight in a hotel close to the interview location.

I'd still recommend driving because the conditions don't seem to be too bad right now. Even so, the highways are usually not as bad as city and suburbian roads. If you decide to do this and happen to get caught up in a snowstorm do your best to exit the highway and get to a rest stop. Parking on the shoulder in snowstorms is very dangerous. Obviously, maintain a great distance behind all cars and stop well before you think you should at all intersections. Being only an hour or two from KC you should be fine if you leave the day before during daylight. If you're really unsure about your car's abilities, get a rental car for a day for ~$50. 👍

I should add, if you don't care about amenities and are only concerned about making it to the interview on time in the morning, stay at the Sun Inn, which is right across the street from where you need to be on Rainbow Blvd.

The Q hotel is close by and has a free shuttle service (a minivan). Best of luck on your interview! I got to the interview place a little too early and planned on sitting and waiting (because my wife had a business meeting an hour and half before the time I should have been there and dropped me off), but they herded me off with the earlier group and I ended up going on two tours. :smack:

Pathologik, I also live in Lawrence and frequently drive between Lawrence and KC. They usually do a good job clearing the highways (K-10 and I-70, depending on which route you plan to take). But do keep in mind that there can be slick spots sometimes that makes for a scary drive at times (even for somebody that has logged a lot of miles for work and has been through a few Michigan winters). Given your apprehension, if driving, you may want to drive out on Saturday, rather than Sunday because they are predicting some snow on Sunday (who knows though). There are a few motels within walking distance of KUMC. Do whatever you feel will minimize your stress. Good luck on that interview.

Omzy, JK47, ndrwkwn - thanks for all the suggestions! Driving to KC this afternoon before all the predicted snowfalls seems like the safest and least stressful method of travel for me. Plus, staying in a motel a couple nights may take away some of the distractions I am currently surrounded by. 🙂

Interviewing tomorrow!!! :scared: Wish me luck! Please?

hey all,
I'm considering applying early decision next cycle. i know i'd be happy in kansas city and would like to stay in kansas after medical school. With a 3.6 and a 29 MCAT do I have a shot at EDP or should I wait for regular? What's the track record like on here for EDP?

You should be fine for EDP. Just make sure you really reflect on your ECs and make sure they are competitive, but otherwise EDP sounds like a good option for you.
The extra 4 months of preparation you receive for your january interview if you don't get in EDP is pretty nice. I also don't know of any place that grants you a second interview.

Hey! This is my first post on this forum; I just recieved an interview invite. Im completely shocked, I didnt expect this at all. Is it to late ? I got a date in feb. Im out of state.

Hey everyone!

I also just received an OOS invite to interview that got me by a pleasant surprise!

After perusing through this forum, I was wondering if you can help me!

1. How does state residency work in Kansas? Can OOS get in-state status in the second year?

2. What's a good place to eat the night before the interview? haha. This MATTERS.

Congrats and good luck to both of you!

To answer the first question - I don't think you have the option to become in-state, if I remember correctly from the conferences. I'm trying to find the information on their website but no luck. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Once an OOS, always an OOS.
You cannot get in-state residency at any time during
school if you start as OOS.
Residency must be established for at least 1 year prior
to applying.
The catch-22: if you spend a year in kansas, apply and get residency,
you'll look really suspicious and the admissions committee won't necessarily
see you as a true resident that is likely to stay and practice in the state.
Almost all OOS-ers interview in Jan/Feb so congrats on the interview!
Only 2.5% of OOS applicants are interviewed and only 30/100 are admitted.
So you have a 30% chance at this point! So very good news! 😀

Fogo de chau is really good, but expensive. It's on the plaza.
Cheescake factory and P.F. Chang's are also very exceptionally delicious places to eat.

I hope this helps.

If you are looking for somewhere good to eat that is real close to campus, the Blue Koi has great dumplings and is right up 39th street on the Missouri side.

got an interview invite yesterday! OOS. yay! very excited!

had a few quick qns

1) this might seem dumb...but, airport to fly into- is it the Kansas City International Airport (MCI) in Kansas City, MO? i looked online and this seems right, but I just want to double check. (would be bad to end up in the wrong place! nightmare!)

2) It says that there is a courtesy shuttle from the hotel, Best Western and Q Hotel. Do we arrange that with the school or with the hotel?

Thanks for the help! very happy and excited! 🙂

MCI (which is in Kansas City, MO) is the correct and only airport to fly into.

The shuttle is arranged with the hotel.

My wife and I stayed at the Q hotel and they said that their shuttle is rarely used in the morning, and its basically a minivan that you just ask a hotel worker to drive you around in wherever you need to go, for free. If you did that route though make sure you leave yourself with plenty of time in case something happens! But you could probably walk to the school from some of these hotels if you really needed to.

As for food, two words: Arthur Bryant's!

After the interview, my wife surprised me by taking me to Christopher Elbow chocolate place somewhat nearby and got some hot chocolate there, it was the perfect medicine for after a med school interview!

Did anyone else interview the 5-7? I am getting anxious. Stupid snow, we would have had our letters last week!
I stayed at the Q Hotel, it is nicer than a lot of the others, but pretty pricey. Very close. The med center is close to westport and there are tons of bars down there, I am sure there is a lot of good stuff to eat down there.

Yah, same here Julies... :scared:

First! 😀

Has anyone here volunteered at any of the hospitals in Wichita? If so, how did you set that up and what did you do? Now that I am graduated I have some free time and would like to get in more experiences. Thanks in advance!

I volunteer at Wesley Med Center. It is a shannagin. You have to get a hold of the director of volunteer service. Then you have to train for like 10 hours. I think its easier at Via Christi. I volunteer at the Red Cross. I love it!

Where are our letters???? Hurry up!!!!!

I was looking at Wesley's site about volunteering, and it doesn't even look like anything that would be helpful/worthwhile as far as clinical stuff.
