Has anyone on South's alternate list (who is also WLed at UAB) gotten a CBC email?
I believe AUGuy is on both lists and got the CBC email, but he is middle third at UAB.
All of that is correct.
I think it is sent out by UAB for people that might get in during the course of the summer, I don't think it reflects your chances at South.

Your not alone, I've been holding on to my phone and refreshing this page every 5 minutes. I wonder what is taking admissions this long, maybe only one spot was open or they're taking their time.

Ouch, that stung a little. But I get it, I'm new and don't have a good or bad reputation. I called back and verified with the admissions office that I did receive an acceptance after no one else heard anything. I didn't ask about general waitlist movement so I have no info to share on that. I'm sorry to have gotten everyone's hopes up today.

Glad you called back and just to clarify, when you did, did they say you were the only one that was accepted today? just wondering. also, congrats!
alright fellow Jag-hopefuls, time for someone to drop a casual call to the admissions office about "apartment searching" or "are Mobilians really as cool as I've heard?" and (again casually) simply ask/demand info about your spot/weightlist movement. I've done it twice and gotten some pretty good info in return. 🙂

Looking back over the last few years, it seems like movement started really slowly, and then started moving a couple weeks later. We seem to be about two weeks behind most years. This is probably because UAB is at least a tier behind where they normally are at this time. I wonder if south waits a while after someone withdraws before accepting someone else. Perhaps the bunch of top tiers who declined south have not yet been removed from the class.

Agreed, hopefully YH5 is correct, but what if this year these schools aren't behind, there are just less spots coming open?
Again, hopefully not, I prefer the optimistic outlook, but the latter could be reality.

I'm sure its kinda true, otherwise South wouldn't have made their alternate list shorter this year (they always try to make the WL a size that will see complete acceptance).
I didn't ask about any other acceptances or WL movement. Sorry.

I definitely know a few more than two have been selected, but I have no idea how many.
How do you know this? This is all since last Wednesday when OrchidMD got in?
By the way, to update my status, I am IS and still have not gotten the call. Middle tier at UAB, also not heard. Got the background email though.
Has anyone called to check on their status lately? I have also been told that more than Orchid and YH5 have been accepted from the alternates, but it was from a friend of a friend kind of thing.
I also have a former classmate who said that she held an acceptance to UAB, South, and a third school deep into the summer because of indecision, and she said she got calls from the schools urging her to make her decision. This is actually a conversation I had directly with her over the phone.
Has anyone else heard this? It is obviously something that frustrates schools, but does anyone know of schools that have been so frustrated that they withdrew the acceptance? My friend seems to think that she would have been in jeopardy if she had waited any longer.

Hopefully, for our sakes, the schools will start calling soon if this is true. Might help us learn a little sooner so we can start making plans and stop the endless limbo and hourly phone checks.

I got this message from UAB last week. I was waiting for that official paper acceptance letter and didn't put down my deposit until a week after I got in...
"You were accepted to the University Of Alabama School Of Medicine on May 20, 2011. As of today, we see that you are still holding acceptances to both UASOM and one or more other medical schools. Please recall that according to AMCAS traffic rules, the deadline to hold multiple acceptances was May 15, 2011.
If you are planning to attend UASOM, please contact the other school(s) to which you are accepted to in order to officially withdraw your acceptance from that school. Also, if you have not done so, please send in your signed Acceptance Offer of Admission Letter to us and pay your tuition deposit as instructed in your official Letter of Acceptance."

I got that e-mail too. Luckily the same day I got my official letter so I immediately withdrew from South. 🙂
Well it is good to see that the schools make a conscious effort to make this process faster at least at the end. Congrats to both of you on your acceptance(s)! Good Luck and thanks for withdrawing in a timely manner.
This is the worst game of "hurry-up-and-wait" that I've ever played. Playing this game with some OOS schools too, but South is tied for the 1-2 spot. Anyone find a method of mitigating the stress other than nail-biting, pacing the floor, over-using the gym, spamming SDN, watching every medical show known to man, etc?
