So no phone calls or emails? I'm currently out of commission with a (hopefully) short illness have spent little time away from computer and phone. All quiet on the Southern front.
 
I think south withdraws may have to wait until official letters go out.

As much as I'd love to withdraw now (just accepted at UAB), I won't feel safe until I get an official letter.

I was accepted at USA and waitlisted at UAB
I was accepted today at UAB
I have emailed USA letting them know that I will be going to UAB
Good luck to everyone
 
I wouldn't expect much movement at south next week, but this bunch of uab acceptances should get rid of the oversubscription and shorten the waitlist a good bit.
 
i wonder how long it will take for uab to get their official letters out. as much as i want to say C'MON you have the acceptance email from uab just withdraw from south, i definitely understand wanting to wait until you get the official letter. i just wonder how much longer it will take before we see movement from south? should we expect anything in a week? or longer?!

My guess is that people will get their letters the end of next week at the earliest, I'm guessing movement will start the last couple of days in May or first couple in June.

I think the first acceptances will come the week after next. It will take several days for most people to withdraw and then for South to accept some more. Hopefully, UAB will start working on the middle tier in the meantime.
 
I have a question for the current medical students on this thread: What made you ultimately decide to attend South over other medical schools
(particularly UASOM)?

What do you like the most about South? What is the least thing you like about South?

I'm asking because I'm trying to decide between UASOM and South. Any advice/comments will be helpful.
 
I should have posted this a long time ago but I am on the waitlist at South and am in the middle tier of the UAB waitlist.

If the list is really twenty something like previously reported, we have a really good percentage on SDN. 😎

Like we're really that lucky... I mean I'm Irish descent and all, but getting those odds would be as difficult as the Powerball haha.
 
I don't think its that unlikely at all. If you google "South Alabama college of medicine alternate list" this thread is the fourth link. This website is also very easy to find when looking for information about medical school. Just look how many fist tiers at UAB signed up on the forum, I doubt that there were more than 32 or so people on that tier.

Yea I was actually just thinking this looking at the other list. About 2/3 of the upper third reported to sdn (some via friends), so maybe we actually have around 1/2 of the waitlisters on here. I do wish USA would give you a tier though, no idea if you have a really good chance or none at all.

I think everyone on the list has a decent chance most years. It would be nice to know if you're dead last though.

got confirmation that USA's weightlist will indeed begin to move next week.
 
I hope its true too--*super embarrassing if nothing happens next week*.

OH and I was also told NO one has been accepted from USA's alternate list so far (I think we knew that) AND that some people "ahead of me on the alternate list have been accepted to 'other schools' (ie UAB) but have yet to pull their acceptances at USA".
basically, when the UABers w/d their acceptance at South, we'll start movin.

At least South is not like the other schools I WLed at, and South doesn't cut the waitlist at the beginning of June.
 
If UAB slows down as much as predicted in that thread, it could be a really rough year to be on south's waitlist.

True, UAB is the main school students would choose that would remove them from South, but there are other schools. I'm pretty sure panhandle residents are considered in-state at USA, maybe some of them will get into the multitude of Florida schools and drop out. Just trying to make something positive out of this depressing situation, not much good news on the med school front these days.

That was last year. Trust me, I know how that feels. Thankfully, I had classes and opportunities to keep me busy until this summer of laziness and preparation.
 
Whilst I wait, I can deal with a Skynyrd/ZZ Top concert at Orange Beach. Could give tickets away for a seat though...haha.

I was thinking the same thing. The day after the first day back from a long weekend sounds like as good a day as any. But then again they like to give things on Friday so people can think on the weekend. Personally there will be no thinking involved. Instant deposit payment $

For sure. I will withdraw from UAB's waitlist instantly if I get into south.
