I only know of one person who got a rejection email the same day we got the weightlist email. I heard the list was around 35ish, but since not all got accepted from it last year they might have made it smaller?

I wonder what the stats were of the last person to get accepted.. I got accepted in december I was just wondering.

Anyone know how many people got accepted off of waitlist last year? it is probably posted on here and i just missed it...

Anyone interested in doing the summer research? Some of the projects seem pretty interesting.

If you are at all interested in some of the projects I would recommend checking it out. They were a great way to make a bit of money, not be so bored over the summer, meet some of your classmates and some of those who are going into their second year.

Last year there was about 22 people, probably 10 incoming 1'st years and 12 rising 2nd years. I know right now 3 of us are doing research for sure (taking up Cioffi's, Honkanen's and Gerthoffer's spots).

I wonder when this waitlist will start moving...

Don't lose hope just yet. Like I said before, a whole bunch of us waited a long time to get any word. I didn't get pulled off the wait-list until it was nearly July. I was ready to go to Nova ( a DO school in Ft. Lauderdale), and I was also accepted to SGU in the Caribbean. The wait really made me appreciate it even more, and I feel like it probably had a positive impact on my work ethic come school time.

The wait sucks, but over a third of our class is composed of wait-listees (probably more...some aren't willing to admit it). And most of us had to do some serious waiting.

Once the UAB waitlist starts moving, South's waitlist will start moving.

There will be a spot opening up for one of you guys here in a few days. I hope one of you will receive it. I wish you all the very best! Good luck!

Thanks eagle! I appreciate that🙂All of my work will be for His glory! I wish you the very best too. I'll be pulling for you on here. I am sure the lists will start moving very shortly, and we'll see "the ripple effect." Good luck to all of you who are still waiting.

I'm on the waitlist at USA, and have been lurking here for sometime.

1. Has anyone recently gotten of the waitlist yet?

2. This place has been dead for a few days. Does anyone have any new news (I don't mind if it's good or bad)?

sup dudes--got some insider info on the size of the alternate list: It's 20-something people.

Surely you jest??? How in the blazes of Hellfire did you come up with that pearl of knowledge?!

A big part of south's admissions criteria is "would you go to south".

maybe they've perfected it so a 20 person waitlist is all they need.

If there are anymore waitlisted lurkers :ninja:, come out of the bushes and we would love for you to join sdn or this thread. :highfive:

I'm a former lurker calling all other lurkers to join the Jag tran.

I'm a waitlisted lurker who has decided to "come out of the bushes" 😛

Based on the people that have said they are waitlisted which is 10 to this point, I find it hard to believe that half of the waitlisters are SDN users. I would have thought the waitlist was more than just 20 people. I hope you are right though.

Well, odoyle said "twenty-something," so it could be twenty nine. That would be pretty close to the thirty five that has been mentioned previously as the typical waitlist size. My guess is that South oversubscribes the class. That would also explain why South starts accepting off of the waitlist much later than UAB.

I received this pearl of knowledge from a large grape vine that originated in a meeting with Mark Scott (and a rejected person). Now, this may NOT be accurate, but basically the gist of the conversation went as such:

Reject: "Whhyyyyyyy????"
MS: "We had to significantly cut down the alternate list since not everyone got accecpted off it last year."
Then, a family member of the rejected person contacted an "insider" (possibly MS or one of his minions) in regards to HOW MUCH the list was cut and he (insider) said it was in the twenties.

I'm guessing HIGH 20's--as in like 29 or so.

Again, this information could be slightly distorted, but considering who I got it from, it's probably closer to true than false. So, Yippee Skippee? (!!)

Thank you so much Odoyle! I really appreciate that, and good luck to you!! I think I might could give you guys some information about what's going on with South's waitlist. They sent out an email about summer research jobs to 115 people. I assume that means that, at the time the email was sent, March 31, 115 people had been accepted. I'm pretty sure the final class ends up being around 70-75 people. I think the class must be over-subscribed. That has to be why one of you didn't receive an offer after I turned down my spot. I'm sure these lists will start moving soon. I wish all of you the very best! Good luck, and I hope this helps.

just fyi, i am a waitlisted lurker as well. idk how much it helps to know that the SDN count is now 11 instead of 10, but figured i'd say hey! :hello:

Good news to all you SDNers still waiting. Just gave up my spot at South. Hope one of you receive word soon. Best Wishes!

I was thinking that they sent that e-mail to the current M1's as well as the incoming class, but I could be wrong.

Welcome orangejuice88 and summerlovin6! Thanks for checking in with us. In an ideal world, what if all alt. list folks were sdners? Then, we would have more accurate waitlist movement forecasts. So, if we are a third (hopefully half!) of the waitlist, we can still have an idea of waitlist movement.

Now, if those 115 emails went to M1's and accepted folks, wouldn't that mean the class is not as oversubscribed as indicated by the # of those emails? I hoping that's the case. What do you guys think?

I believe that would be correct.

I just cross-referenced the e-mail addresses from the summer research message with the e-mail addresses of current M1's as posted online. No matches. Looks like the class currently has 115 accepted students.

Well, it only means it had that many at one point. Didn't the poster before say he got that email in the beginning of March. Probably less over subscribed by now.

We just got another e-mail on Friday. It was sent 115 people.

If UAB's waitlist doesn't pick up soon, it could be a long wait over here....

...and I got the same email that Ditto got on Friday.

They probably sent it to everyone that has been accepted, even if they have withdrawn their acceptance. I could have sworn that Dr. Scott said that they normally accept about 115 or so total to fill a class including waitlistees. It's been a while since I interviewed though. Maybe that was the number accepted outright. Does anyone have any numbers on how many people south interviews and accepts during a normal year?

I'm with you, I thought he said during the final decision process they have a full class (74) and that they then make a waitlist of enough people to get to about 115 total. Meaning people from 75-115 are the waitlisters. I thought there was a chance they oversubscribed, but never thought it was by 40. If this is the truth, it is going to be another LONG summer. Yippee.

Ditto,

I was accepted back in February and I haven't received an email about summer research. Can you foward that to me?

I remember him saying this too during interview orientation

If one of you build up the courage to talk to scott about the waitlist, could you please spread any of your new knowledge to the rest of your SDN buddies. As you can tell, I am a coward and plan on waiting after May 15 to talk to him. :barf:

ps study hard this week

Where in central America did you go? I've been to northern Guatemala a couple times.

New poster. Add me to the Alternate List you guys have been making.

Just wanted to be clear, but do any posters know anyone who has been accepted off the alternate list yet? I ask because I recently talked to Peggy and she pretty much confirmed what many have been speculating: UAB's waitlist is stalled at the moment, UAB seems to have accepted too many out of state students once again, South is pretty much waiting on UAB before they start pulling, and we should not expect to begin hearing anything until early to mid-June. Not the best information but I wanted to share anyways.

I am also on the middle tier at UAB. I am starting to get the feeling there will be a major battle between the two IS schools this summer which is hard to predict as good for all of us or bad. The playing field is so even between the two now and people are making very unpredictable decisions and holding acceptances until they make up their mind.

Just some food for thought. Excited to join the board. Looks like May 15th is going to be pretty anti-climatic, but June may be a great month. Hopefully...

Last year seemed to catch USA by surprise and their waitlist was too large. It sounds like they shortened it this year, which is good news as long as UAB eventually accepts the same amount off their waitlist as last year. If they don't, USA may have again over-estimated and made their list too large. At least it feels like South tries to make a reasonable wait list though, I appreciate that about the school.

Rising 3rd year at South here.

Studying for the boards and I'm...bored. I'm glad to field any questions about South if you're torn between South/UAB at the moment. Fire away.

Hey chemnerd! Why did you ultimately choose South?

It's hard to describe, but it seemed like the students at South were a lot happier than the UAB kids when I interviewed. Not to say they're unhappy, but it's pretty laid back here. I liked the idea of the smaller class size as well. You will definitely get to know 95% of your classmates VERY well, and make a lot of friends for life.

I do not regret my decision in the least and have not asked "what if?" once.

And of course there's the beach.
