I am pretending as though I will not get in, even though there's still a good chance a few more of us will be accepted. I'm planning on retaking the MCAT and looking at programs for next year. This has really helped because thinking about it only made me feel bad. Atleast now I'm making myself more competitive incase I don't make it this year. My advice is plan for the worse and try to not sit around doing nothing till the end of July (you'll end up going crazy like TinsleyJr).+pissed+

There is still a good bit of time left, guys. Many of us were accepted off the waitlist past this date last year. Also, is it right to say that it seems that the whole process seems to be taking a tad longer than last year (just my speculation)?

Definitely doesn't hurt to put your efforts into something constructive, like a contingency plan (MCAT retake, apply for research position, comm. service/relevant job, other application reinforcement, heck even Caribbean application if you don't think waiting is an option). This stuff always helped me feel relieved, and broadened my scope. It's much better than using that effort to worry and wait. It made me feel more prepared for a complete rejection (but since I didn't get rejected, I won't ever know if it actually would the softened the blow any). Plus it gives your family/friends something to work with when they ask how things are going every ten seconds. Online video games, especially violent ones like black ops, are always a good outlet.

If I see Mark Scott (I'm at school all summer for research), I'll rough him up for answers...if the price is right.

👍 My game of choice was Halo last year. There was nothing like assassinating random online n00bs to make me feel better about being on a waitlist.

Just wanted to let everyone know I have officially withdraw my application from South. I was still on the waitlist, but I hope it helps one of you guys eventually! 🙄

Could someone who has received the computer requirements email from South copy/paste it for me? I'm about to buy a laptop and I just want to make sure that it meets their requirements.

Anybody call recently and get some updates?

UAB has apparently started pulling from their middle tier, but I still have not heard personally nor do I know anyone else on the middle tier who has. I have already made my mind up, though, that should I get in to both, I am going to choose South, which is why I am so anxiously waiting to hear if there is any news!

This is the only Alabama school I will attend, so I'm really hoping this phone call magically happens rather soon.

Tried to talk to someone but Peggy and Mark were out of the office. Haven't heard back yet. Will let you know if i can find anything out.

Alright, so I'm wondering; is the waitlist completely solid at this point? Would it change anything with a new experience or letter? I simply can't sit still all summer...

So last year I asked Mark Scott that question and he basically said that nothing at this point can improve your situation cause you have been put on the waitlist and the admiss. comm. doesn't meet anymore. So basically sending an update at this point won't help you or hurt you.

I don't know about any of you, but the waiting has started to affect my health. I've gotten to the point that I get BAD headaches about 5-6 days/week. It's all I think about, no matter how many things I try doing to ignore it.

(Seeing that the waitlist is starting to move does ease the tension a little, but still this SUCKS)

I understand your situation, as do the rest of us on here I hope. However, don't let the application process hurt you before even making it to medical school.

If the waiting is affecting your health just wait until the actual school part.

Hey,

I don't mean to change the topic here, but just had a few questions for anyone willing to help. To those who have already been accepted to the USACOM class of 2015, any upperclassmen, or anyone with helpful advice for that matter:

The residence halls with the meal plans seem like an inexpensive and convenient option for me. As an M1 who commuted from home during undergrad, I'm curious to to try that option for my first year. I know most medical students prefer to live in apartments for more privacy, etc. but regardless...

1. Any ideas and/or experiences with USA's residence halls?
2. If the university housing option isn't a good idea, which apartment complexes would you recommend?

(I understand that some residence halls are available for upperclassmen and graduate students so I wouldn't be stuck with freshmen, I hope..)

Any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

just called south. mark scott is out of town until a week from monday. i think i spoke with peggy? anyways all she gave me was that they are waiting on people to get accepted to uab and withdraw from south. basically indicated that they are going to move as slowly as uab does. i am beginning to have next to no hope. this is awful.

He must go on vacation around this time every year cause he was "out of town" this week last year too. When he got back though there was some acceptances given. Little something to possibly look forward to. One can hope :xf:

So today was good for waitlisters (atleast I think so). Rrroddy and another non-SDN got in at UAB today, both of whom were accepted at South.

I'm sending in my acceptance withdrawal shortly. Just got accepted into UASOM. Hope one of you gets my slot!

To anyone planning to attend USA that has not already made plans for housing:

I'm participating in Summer research at USA, so I have already moved to Mobile. I have a two bedroom apartment at Timber Ridge, which is a short drive away from campus, and I'm still looking for a roommate, preferably another incoming medical student. If anyone here may be interested in living at Timber Ridge, send me a PM. I'll be willing to cut you a pretty good deal.

As much as I have enjoyed speaking with all of you through this arduous process, I will be pulling my WL status at South. Reckon I need to head North and see what Fortune has in store for me. Good luck, Godspeed, and thanks for being my source of stress relief while I waited. I pray that all of you will have seats when the time comes!

Good luck TinsleyJr! I hope you enjoy Morgantown. Remember, it won't hurt anything if WVU takes down LSU on Sept 24 - get your tickets as soon as you get to town🙂.

Thank you much, and I will be at that game with textbook in hand! Let's go, Mountaineers!

So what's the deal? I thought 3 people were dropping their spots at South. Somebody has to get those spots, right? All this waiting = 😡😕😱:scared:

UMMM completely AGREEEE! this is ridiculous, i have been attached to my phone since monday. he is back in town so i thought okay, give him monday to recoup from vacay, surely by yesterday he could have called. and surely SOMEONE from sdc would know someone who got accepted. RIDICULOUS!

All of this "well, maybe next week" is really starting to wear me down. I'd like to think at least one SDN-er would get one of the three spots
: ( .... well, maybe next week *sigh*

I was accepted today. I got the call around 10:30 this morning!

Congrats AUguy! Are you holding out for UAB or are you done waiting?

What are any of your thoughts?

1.All the spots where given out today (probably to non-sdn people)
2.More are available, theyre just being spread out over a few days
3.Other?

My thoughts is that even though those people were accepted to UAB the same day, doesn't mean they withdrew the same day. There may be one or two who said they would withdraw and just haven't yet.

A belated congrats to you AUGuy! I'm glad one of us got a spot 🙂

I also got the call from Mark Scott on Thursday morning around 10:30!
