I kind of like it this way, it sucks waiting but at least you're waiting for something you have a shot at, unlike schools who prematch 90+ % of their class in prematch. I really don't even understand how prematch started but if a school is going to match that many, they might as well not even participate in the match...

I interviewed on 10/22 and heard from them 3:21 pm on 11/15. I am sure most anxious people here will get matched since I doubt they pre-matched a lot this year.

Hey guys,

Can those of you who have received the acceptance letter via postal, please post or pm me whether there is a deadline for the paperwork that we have to fill and send back? I am unable to read my letter because its being mailed to an address that I will not be at until next week. Thanks in advance.

hey pastryman, can you tell us what your stats are? thanks! =) yeah i do hope there will be more prematch batches to come. sigh

The deadline for my letter was Nov. 29th. She also sent me an email with that date as well since my acceptance letter was delayed being sent by about a month. I prematched OOS. I'm not sure if it is different for the people who recently prematched.

Hey, I had a 34 and a 3.96. Hope this helps.

And, I think my dad called me and said the deadline is like 2/3 or 2/4. Don't put too much stock in my memory though.

The coverletter says to send back the form by Nov 29, but the inside instructions say that it must be postmarked by Feb 5.
It would be better to be cautious & send it back by Nov. 29.

so is it safe to say from the "over-acceptances" from last year that UTMB will probably not have more pre-match offers and that they are going to to rely on the match to fill in the rest of their spots?

Interviewed her today and FELL INLOVE with the campus, students and faculty. My first interview was a NIGHTMARE!!! (PM me if you want details). During the morning orientation they tell us that if we didn't think one was great we could request a third interview. I was debating whether or not I should tell admissions what happened. I was sooo upset after this interview especially since I loved the school, I ended up telling admissions. My second interviewer was AMAZING! He was the person who designed the new curricculum and he never received my application so It was a 100% blind interview. We ended up talking for a whole hour!

I ended up meeting with the dean in the after noon which counted as my third interview. I really love this school and how supportive the faculty are and how well the students seem to work together. Also, their board scores are REALLY GOOD!!

Praying that I get in here 🙂

I transmitted on Oct 16th and felt it was way too late to even have a shot at an interview.

I just got an invitation today to interview at UTMB at Galveston on Dec. 3rd. I am stoked! I'm glad to see on here this school has received such high praises.

I am hoping for at least another couple interviews in the next couple weeks to compare.

Maybe I will see some of you in a couple weeks!

I also interviewed today and loved the campus! although minor complaint: my guide was 'meh'....i love how the curriculum is designed and overall, really really liking this school. Also like the above post, my first interview was very unusual. He was a 'veterinary scientist' and pretty much was completely opposite of what everyone described UTMB interviews, the interview was neither chill nor relaxed! anyway, hope to hear from UTMB soon (prematch?!?!? wouldn't mind waiting till February tho....:xf:)

Pollux..congrats! I am hoping for an interview here, I have friends and coworkers who speak nothing but amazing things. I transmitted a tad after you, so perhaps next week? Either way congrats, and good luck with everything

Thanks Libby,

Have you received any other interview offers so far? There are a couple other schools I really want to check out. I hope you get your interview to UTMB too!

Do you remember who your tour guide was?

Do you remember who your tour guide was?

yeah but I don't feel comfortable sharing that information because what if that particular student reads SDN? i don't want to be a jerk and make him/her feel like he/she did a substandard job...sorry...🙂

i was just wondering because i know all the tour guides and they'd actually want to know so they could do better next time but whatevs lol

So I'm not on SDN much anymore, but I'm a current student at UTMB and would be happy to answer questions and such. just for the record, I had a terrible interview here as well (definitely NOT the norm) but didn't seem to matter I pre-matched anyway. So, sometimes you might get that one weird interviewer who is hard to read or you think is a terrible interview, but the adcom also knows who these people are and takes those things in mind. So you guys that had a bad interview, dont let it discourage you.

UTMB is the greatest school in Texas, I am glad I chose to go here, would do it over again anytime.

Aren't the pre-match offers also supposed to show up on tmdsas? I'm pretty sure they do. Has anyone who prematched here have their show up on tmdsas? or is it just me?

I prematched to more than one school, and none of them updated any acceptances on TMDSAS. Is it supposed to show on TMDSAS?

is UTMB going to have another prematch batch? did they have more than one last year

has anyone gotten an interview invite lately?

I could be wrong but I think UTMB is done with interview invitations. On their website, their last interview date is Dec. 3rd. They might actually add two more interview dates because compared to last year , interviews this year started 2 wks late. I dont know if they did that on purpose or they are planning to make up for it by adding two more dates.

Last year they prematched 400 people. This year I heard they prematched only 50 on Nov 15th. Maybe they plan on having a prematch sometime in December but I don't know.

yes, it is supposed to show on tmdsas, but I think tmdsas is taking its sweet time updating it.

I Interviewed on the 19th and we were told that there would be more than 1 pre-match batch sent. According to the dean 75% of the class would be accepted during the pre-match period.

Hania, did you hear that from an administrator or is that the word on the street? Thanks.

Does anyone know definitively whether or not this Friday 12/3 will be their last interview date? Did they possibly add later dates?

During prematch week, someone posted that they called admissions after Nov.15th and one of the admissions people gave them that information.

Not sure what year you are, but you probably have some idea about this... during clinical years, are the faculty/attendings/graders generally helpful and not out to get you? Also, do you get a lot of hands-on experience? Thanks in advance.

I'm just a lowly first year, but all my friends that have either graduated or are in 4th year have great things to say about the clinical experience at UTMB. Its like anywhere else, there will be good one and not so good ones, but by far they have all agreed UTMB has great ones. As I understand it, again from their experiences, UTMB is one of the best at getting hands on during the clinical rotations. They said they would go elsewhere for rotations and the students would be amazed at the number of clinical hands on experiences they had.

Sorry thats all I got, other peoples stories...🙂

for those of you who interviewed and flew, what is the best way to get to UTMB from the houston airport?

Does anyone know when the next batch of prematches come out? Or will it just be random between now and Dec 31st?

i interviewed a few days ago and after the interview I emailed the admission office asking about if they would do another pre-match offer and they just said that they will do another pre-match offer but she didn't say when...so I'm thinking they may not have the date set of when they will officially do it

question for fellow OOS applicants (or anyone else that may know)... because texas schools do not have a prematch for OOS applicants, how are applicants made aware of their status change after whether accepted, WL'd, or denied?

hey guys, jus received an invite today for 01/07/11. 🙂

I also received an Interview invite today for January 7th, however I have another interview at UTH for the same day already planned. Neither school will let me reschedule...

Congrats guys! For those of you that got interviews today, can you tell us your stats?

That sucks! What do you think you are going to do?

Hmm... this majorly sucks. My only thought is that they are close enough that it is possible you could make sure you have morning interviews at one and afternoon interviews at the other (both schools do morning and afternoon spots) and drive during lunch between them... I'm not sure how this would look for "proving" your interest in one school though... but more interviews more chances...?

Have you talked to anyone high up in admissions? Maybe even ask the dean. You'd have to phrase your request tactfully in order to not sound like you like one school over the other or that you feel you're entitled to rescheduling.

The director of admissions at UTMB told me directly that I had to pick which interview to attend. UTH said someone would have to drop out of the Dec. 17th interview day for me to have a shot in hell for a reschedule, meaning I will probably call them every day until the 17th. On US News it looks like UTMB accepts 71% of interviewees, UTH accepts 42%. The two schools are similar and while I would rather live in Houston, I'm leaning towards UTMB.

That is a tough decision to make. I hope someone drops out of Dec 17th interview at UTH. I don't know the chances of that since it is late in the interview season. I interviewed at both schools, loved UTMB. Both schools are great, think about which school you have a better chance at getting in.

The stars aligned and someone did that just this morning. Got the news while driving and almost crashed due to excessive celebration, but I would have had to interview at UTMB.
