Does anyone know if they are done giving out interview invites????

Im an OOS and really wanted to attend but have not heard a word😎

8.5 weeks since interview, MSTP director said decisions would be sent out "BY the end of January" and that all applicants get an email when a decision has been made.

any other MSTP applicants already notified or frustrated with AECOM's response time?

I called Einstein today after months of silence from them and Joan said that they haven't even looked at everyone's application, they are still accepting secondaries until Feb. 15th and they interview into the second week of May so you may not hear from them until the end of February.

I don't know how the class wouldn't be full by then but oh well...

For accepted students - does anyone know anything about the schedule - like when is orientation / move in ?

I'm concerned bc my apartment lease ends August 1st, so I'm wondering when we can move into Einstein dorms

Also, anyone have any info about the Einstein Intro to Biochem class offered before regular classes start?

Last year we could move into the apartments end of July (if doing biochem) or early August if not. However, if you didn't mind paying 2 weeks rent extra, non-biochem students could move in end of July as well. I recommend doing the biochem course - you get lectures from professors you will have during the year, and it's a great time to bond with classmates and get settled in the area and not stress about homework.

Excellent! I'm def excited to meet all of the future Einstein 2016 students! 🙂

Great! I definitely would want to move in end of July to have time to settle in. Def worth paying the extra rent in my opinion.

Ye I am strongly considering the biochem course, I never took it during undergrad so it might be helpful to take the intro class.
And like u said, def a great time to meet classmates!

Hey guys, First year student here. Looks like you're all being taken pretty good care of by other students but I seriously could use a break from studying Anatomy and figured answering any questions you guys have about Einstein might be helpful. Also, always feel free to message me if you'd like another student's opinion on things. To everyone already accepted, a HUGE congratulations, and to anyone still waiting from us or another school, stay in there and keep your head up. Med applications are a lot of rushing so you can just wait around nervously biting your nails for months, especially if there are waitlists involved. I know at least at Einstein there's definitely some movement on the waitlist and even late interviewees are accepted.

Also, I saw a lot of you talking about the biochem course. It was great!. Not because it particularly helped me learn any of the material (even as a non-science major). But it definitely helped me get used to the exam styles of the professors and it was really great in helping me adjust to the pace of med school. Waaaay more importantly though, instead of starting med school with 180 people, all at the same time, it's only like 50 people, and you guys really bond and it makes the start of med school so much easier. The school (and second years) also plans a bunch of activities like bowling and bar nights, and a trip to the beach at City Island. And you still have your weekends free because the exams don't count for anything so you don't really spend time studying outside of class. Also now that the apartments are all going to have one huge room and two smaller rooms, you can move in earlier and try to claim the royal suite. Any other questions just post or PM. Good luck and enjoy the Super Bowl!

Accepted students should start a facebook page... it's a nice way to keep in contact and talk about school related stuff (fin. aid, housing, biochem course, etc.) Also it'll be nice to know a few faces by the time you matriculate.

The biochem course is great, but its not absolutely necessary- i was a non science major and did fine without it (I decided to work more to save up some $$). If you have nothing else to do this summer though i hear it is highly recommended.

has anyone written a letter of interest to einstein? if so, did you send it by email and who did you email it to?

How many weeks is is the biochem class? I never took biochem in undergrad but was hoping to squeeze a vacation in at the end of July, would this put me at a disadvantage academically?

Thanks for all your help, current students!

It's two weeks at the beginning of August and no, it would not put you at any sort of academic disadvantage.

Which book does Einstein use for the introductory biochem course and for the standard first year biochem course?

Also can any MS1 please post a list of the books used in first year?

Can any MS3/4s comment on how the last 2 years are run? Things you would change? There was a thread a while back with a poster complaining about the system being inflexible with regards to residency interviews. How are rotations otherwise?

Thanks!

Interview invite today! I'm super excited even though they are already scheduling for the first week of April.

how can I gather some information about this school? Do they send information packets to people they are interviewing? I did not receive one?? I just dont know what to say if they ask "why Eisntein? what do you like about our school?" how can I gather some info please?

Go to their website- there is a lot of information there.

This guide should have been mailed to you (sent to all applicants I believe - not sure what happened in your case)... it contains a lot of information, as does the website.

Does anyone know when we should hear back regarding interviews if we interviewed in January?

So, somethings to know about the introductory biochem course and textbooks at Einstein for the first year. Even though the two week program it's called Intro Biochem, it's actually some biochem, some histology, some genetics, some immunology, and even a little cardiovascular. The lectures are really the same as during teh year, except they're slowed down to help you adjust. That's why you really don't miss anything academically by not going (but socially it's great). The Biochem book though isLieberman et al “Marks’ Basic Medical Biochemistry” 3rd Edition. Having said that, we're way into the class already and I don't even know what that book looks like.

At Einstein, very few, if any, of the first year professors expect you to know things mentioned in the books, but not mentioned in their lectures (usually it's the other way). They're really into the idea that some people learn better from lectures, some from reading texts, etc and you shouldn't be hurt just because you'd rather listen to them than read a book. So for a bunch of the basic sciences, like biochem, a lot of people don't even buy the textbook and we just study from the slides and notes from lecture. For teh most part, Histology, Anatomy, an immunology case studies text, and a clinical skills book are the ones that everyone gets. Then the rest is up to each person. I'll try to PM you the book list if you're really interested (and anyone else who wants it), but seriously, it's not usually worth buying every book on the list. And in the first few weeks of school you have tons of second, third, and fourth years selling all their old first year books for like $5-$35. So it's really not worth worrying about the books now.

All I can tell you guys is that I interviewed in late November and heard back in early/mid January with good news =D... you've probably got a while to wait at this point, but good luck!

On a related note, does anyone know if there's a facebook group for accepted students yet?

thanks so much for the reply! 🙂

I'm definitely hoping to take the Intro Biochem class - I have no prior biochem experience, and I've also been out of college 2 years so it might help me get back into being a student again.

If you can please PM me the first year book list regardless, I'd def appreciate it! I have a friend who might be able to get me some of the books free, and if so I would try to have him get me those specific ones. Thanks!

On a different note - a few other random questions
How many hours do you think the average einstein student needs to study a day..?
And also how is the class social life etc? Do people tend to go out on friday/saturday night a lot and/or hang out at night? (when not studying like crazy for exams that is lol)

I have to say studying hours/day depends ... I think for most (of course there is variation) people in first year you can blow away the courses if you put in a solid 4 hours/day... second year is a different story - I'll leave it at that lol. don't worry about X amount of hours to study per day - everyone adapts and the year will FLY by and before you know it you'll have your pattern down that works for you. Really Einstein makes it relatively painless - which is saying a lot for med school.

The social scene here is great - because some times the courses aren't too heavy there are a few people who damage their liver on a consistent basis... sometimes even daily - you'll be very familiar with the local dive Gleason's. Of the organized social things run by student government or the classes are: Tons of stuff during orientation (the boat cruise is usually the big thing) - then the second years put on "around the world", then the high school dance, the ski trip, just last week was skating in bryant park, this week is second year skit night (big kegger pregame in the glass cafe followed by the actual skit night, then will be the "formal" which is held at some fancy club house, and lastly first year skit night. Also of note is the many ceremonies you'll attend which aren't parties but are also other events put on by the school - your white coat, scrubs, stethescope, giving thanks after anatomy... the list goes on... I'm sure im forgetting other events but as you can see it is basically non-stop if your choose to attend them all.

I received my interview invite in the beginning of January, but the next available date wasn't until March 26. This seems pretty late to me and I am afraid I will only be interviewing for a spot on the wait list. Does anyone know if there is a way to find out if there has been an earlier date open up/if the admissions office is responsive to inquiries about earlier dates having opened up?

You are most definitely not interviewing for a spot on the waitlist. Einstein has a fairly unique (or, at least, uncommon) interview system - they interview more people than most schools (though accept about the same number of students overall) and spread the acceptances out over many, many months. Instead of interviewing a large chunk of applicants, and then accepting a large percentage all at once, and then waiting to see how many spots are left, Einstein slowly builds the class up over many months. I know multiple people here who were accepted after having spring interviews (no waitlist involved). Go ahead and try to make the interview earlier if you want, but keep in mind, it is not for the waitlist.

Awesome news! I Interviewed about a month ago now and still haven't heard back. It's good to know I actually have a chance at getting accepted. 🙂

any MS1s know if the number of interview invites remains the same from now-end of march or if they interview a substantially less number of people? also do interview invites get sent out in waves or just randomly per individual?

how available is guest parking?

There is a parking garage adjacent to the dorms with a level for guests, costs $6-7 for a couple of hours, another lot across from the hospital (Weiler-Montefiore) that's about the same price, and as mentioned, street parking if you can find it.

You can easily street park in the early morning or in the evening. But make sure that you do not leave any valuable belongings in the car. From time to time, we hear stories that people have their car window smashed for things like GPS or phone.

Thanks everyone. I should have clarified- if a significant other was staying for the weekend, will parking be a problem? just curious and thinking way in advance.

Hi everyone! Congratulations to everyone accepted and good luck to everyone who is still waiting on interviews/decisions! I started a facebook group for our class, just search for "Albert Einstein College Of Medicine: Class of 2016." If someone wants to be an admin, just message me and we can get started.
I'm so excited to meet everyone in the fall!
