Does anyone know if they will be adding more interview dates? They are all on August now.

OOS, complete like july 5, stats 3.6ish mcat mid 30's

for those who got interviews, did they only offer 2 different days to schedule? I only had aug 26th or 29th available

Yeah. They will add more when those dates are full. I will be there in October so I am going to wait it out and hope that a good date opens then 😳

:EDIT: Pretty sure there was a third date this morning. So it looks like these are going fast.

I wonder if all of the interview invites went out already for those completed early. My prelim review complete status was 6/22, letters complete 7/11. I'm still waiting...... :xf: But for the moment, I can't shake these feelings of self-doubt and overwhelming sadness.

I'm in the same boat, though my secondary was received 7/24. Waiting patiently.

anyone know post-interview acceptance rates? couldn't find anything on US NEws

I wouldn't worry about it just yet... I still haven't been able to submit a secondary since I'm on hold for my MCAT...

instate, gpa 3.65/3.8, mcat 31
Edit: I chose Aug 29 (i live near here and taking a monday off work was easier)

Interview invite!! 8/29

Congrats! Does FIU give acceptances whenever or do they start after October. Also, how many interviews do you reckon they are giving this year? (double due to 80 student classes now?)

Thanks! Last year the first acceptance was on 10/15.

Interview invite as well! 8/26

Based on the posts here, I'm actually wondering if this will literally be the first date for FIU interviews. Is that good or bad, I wonder? Anyone have an idea what interviewing is like here?

Do you mind posting when you were complete? Thank you! 🙂

On the website it says the interview consists of 2 interviewers who are blinded to our application- "tell me about yourself" anyone?

Secondary submitted 7/25/2011; Interview invite 8/4/2011
My stats: 4.0 GPA; 33 MCAT; OOS
Hoping for an acceptance!! :xf:

And thanks chrissyxf! I've been looking at the website as well, along with previous forums on here. *sigh*....I somehow feel like I'd prefer a non-blind interviewer...wonder if anyone has any tips on dealing with this particular brand of interviews? I can be a very chatty person, so a "tell me about yourself" question may just be the kiss of death for me 😕

First of all, congrats on the interview! I'm still holding my breath and hoping for one soon!

Second, I'm not sure if this will be helpful, but my parent was an admissions dean for 10 years at a professional school (sorry for being vague,) and, at least from what they have said, chatty people are great! The real kiss of death is someone who spends the whole interview like this :lame:. As long as you portray yourself the way you want to, it doesn't matter if the interviewer only asks one or two questions. The only caveat is, you know, make sure you talk about medical school and why you want to be there (may seem obvious, but you'd be surprised.) Showing that you're a sociable, cheerful person is EXACTLY what (at least the school they work at) is looking for. You're going to be in school a long time; they want to see you're excited and giddy about it.

On a side note, one of my best friends is an FIU student, and he said the interview was the most comfortable, friendly, least scary one he did. He said it was like talking with friends. I hope this is helpful, and if you have any other questions, I'd be happy to try to answer them!

complete mid-july, 35R, 3.5/3.35 IL resident interview invite 🙂

When will they make more dates available? 🙁

Do they send a complete e-mail? I sent in my app 7/24 and am still at the "Secondary Application Completed" stage.

Don't we all haha! Maybe they'll be getting close to reviewing my app. Thanks for the info though, and best of luck to you 🙂.

congrats bluepanda! i guess you weren't holding your breath to no avail, haha. can you tell us when you were complete?

I've been at Secondary Application Completed since 7/24 :/. At what point is it worth giving them a call?

I recommend you wait as long as you can stand to, with respect to calling about a complete application.

*Warning: Complete speculation begins here*

I'm just an undergrad like (mostly) everyone else here, but I believe that most of these schools give out each complete application to one or a few faculty/staff/administrators who participate in the admissions process. These people, I believe, then read the applications in their stack when they have time to, and turn them back to the office with their recommendation. I think, then, that a bunch of variability in timing is introduced into the process depending on how quickly your reader happen to be able to get through their stack.

Personally, if it were me, I think I would wait another 1-3 weeks (depending on my mounting anxiety) before sending a gentle "just checking to verify that my file is good-to-go and wondering if there's anything I can/must do at this time" email. Just my opinion, though!

Agreed, I planned on waiting at least another 2-3 weeks. Thanks for the advice.

Those of you who completed early and haven't gotten any news yet, don't fret. I was panicking all this week and just got an invite so I don't think they're going in order of app.

Complete: 6/25
II: 8/11
I: 8/26

In-state

I don't think you should wait to ask whether you are complete or not. I e-mailed them about the same question, and Dean Roller very courteously responded that the admissions staff has been busy with orientation and the white coat ceremony, and that yes, I was complete.

I think it's worth it to ask because you may think your application is ready for review, but they may not have all the supporting materials. You never know, and I think with the admissions cycle, it is always better to take a proactive approach. Just my two cents. Good luck!

Hi guys--

I'm also currently an M1 at FIU, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask. If you're applying to FIU, you've made an excellent choice- I couldn't be happier with the program so far. Good luck to all of you!

Preliminary Review Completed, good thing I didn't call! Thank you for all your answers though people!

Oh boy do I know the feeling!

For those interviewing Aug 26th...we are expecting a cat 3 hurricane on thursday night/friday morning (though this may still change!) in miami. i urge you to get in contact with FIU by wed before making travel plans.

I think weather forecasters are saying by the time Irene arrives in Miami (if it is not deflected by Thursday night), it will probably be a tropical storm. Nonetheless, chrissyxf's advice is very sound. I am a Miami native as well, and the weather has not been cooperative for the past week or so.:luck:

I just read the update 30 min ago and they're saying cat 3 after it gets away from puerto rico...the point is though, just be aware haha...it hasn't been in the national news yet and i didn't want people who are traveling from afar to get in a bind.

Does anyone know the grading system here? I couldn't find any info on their website. Thanks!

The link above is pretty much correct. A few of our courses are P/F but most are number grades. At the end of each period we are assigned Pass, High Pass, Near Honors, or Honors based on the performance in all the period classes.

Thanks 👍 I wasn't totally sure myself. I had to google it to find that website.

interviews are being held today. Good luck if any of you are attending!

If your status says prelim review completed, is that like a hold? Does it mean we have looked at your app and are not yet ready to offer you an interview? or do most interviewees receive that status first?

That was my status for a while, and I figured it meant something similar to "complete." I was recently offered an interview invite, so I don't think it's a bad status. 👍

Anyone who interviewed this past Friday care to share how it went? I'm going tomorrow- first one and a little nervous!

decent interview. i felt that it was pretty laid back compared to what i was expecting...it's two interviewers and you in a room but, oddly, i wasn't very intimidated once we got going. only a half hour which was sort of a bummer...i would've liked to have had more freedom in how much time we had. there was alot of sitting around (you wait for others to interview so there's about 1.5 hours of downtime with nothing planned). also, they serve very minimal sandwiches/cookies...i'm vegetarian and thus had nothing to eat until just now when I got home. do yourself a favor and eat ahead of time 🙂 everyone was extremely nice and friendly, by far the most welcoming group of people i've encountered. overall, a good experience.
