To those who have submitted already:

Is the essay 6000 characters with or without spaces? This is so hard to fit an entire life in so few characters!

With spaces. Thats about 1000 words or so

yeah at first i though 6000 characters was huge cuz its the longest secondary ive done by far, but once you get writing, it goes really fast. i ended up having to cut a lot of stuff out.

I'm working on the autobio right now and have a question since we can't access it. Does the prompt say the autobio should address just to college or through college to the present day?

Thank you!

yea. birth, secondary school school, college

hmmm i might be wrong if they changed it, but the post earlier in the thread says last year's was:

2. AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH
This should be a true autobiographical statement. Topics to be included are family, childhood, primary and secondary school years. You should focus on major life experiences and influences up to your entry into college. We will ask about major experiences in your undergraduate years and beyond in subsequent sections. Please note: if you are applying to the MD/PhD program, please include why you are seeking the MD/PhD training at UCSD.
You should also discuss the motivational factors which led you to a career in medicine including any disadvantages or obstacles which might put your accomplishments into context. A repeat of your AMCAS statement will not be acceptable.

I believe the prompt this year changed slightly. I wish I had it verbatim but I spliced out the superfluous stuff when I copied & pasted the prompt into word.

This year it asks for a seemingly true autobiography which covers everything up to date.
i.e. primary school, high school, college, after college

this was my spliced version:
.Topics to be included are family, childhood, primary and secondary school years, undergraduate years, what you've done since completing your bachelor's degree, the motivational factors which led you to a career in medicine including any disadvantages or obstacles which might put your accomplishments into context.

.
.(This would explain why last year there was a 4800 character limit, while this year it is 6000 characters.)..
.

The secondary seems to be back up, but are people still having problems? I can't establish a PID and password. Not sure if this is what the e-mail sent out today is addressing or if my problem is unique.

With my already established PID/password, I still receive the same error from trying to login: "The School of Medicine Application site is having a connectivity issue. We will continue to work on this issue, so check back occasionally. We apologize for the inconvenience."

So no additional questions? 6000 character limit??

Just one question asking you why you picked the future you want for medine. 250 charecters.so short

"
Currently the School of Medicine Application Status page is undergoing maintenance. We hope to be available mid-morning Thursday, July 7th. We apologize for the inconvenience."

yup.... uhhh its july 11th .... lol ucsd

i can't establish a PID either. should i call????

Wooo it's back up! Gonna submit tonight or tomorrow. When we're given a choice to waive our rights to access letters of recommendation, does anyone ever not waive their rights? I hear it makes the letters hold much less weight if you don't waive your rights of access.

Is there *really* a point to submit our secondary until the payment link works?

Is there *really* a point to submit our secondary until the payment link works?

I have no real evidence suggesting this, but since they were advocating submitting the secondary ahead of time without payment, and they are obviously aware of the payment situation, maybe they will begin reviewing submitted applications without payment until further notice.

thanks for the heads up. i just submitted payment, but i hate how we need to use an echeck instead of credit card or paypal.

No problem mate. Yeah, I don't understand the point of not allowing credit cards either. 😕

If we are still continuing the activity, do we put a future end date? If its a future end date, do we put the total hours so far, or the predicted total hours by the projected end date

This isn't an official ruling, but for continuing activities I just put the day I submitted's date and hours until this point.

I put grad date, but hours done to this point.

I actually called and asked both of these questions. They said to estimate the future end date, so they know you will be continuing the activity. For total hours I was told to put only the hours done so far.

Hope this helps. :luck:

This definitely helps! Thank you thank you!

dang. wish i did that.

For those still waiting on secondaries from the beginning, don't call.

I just called, expect to receive it today or tomorrow.

All right! Screened in for the secondary. Got the email about 15 min after I created my single sign-on.

4. PERSONAL STATEMENT REGARDING ANY CRIMINAL CONVICTION
Have you been convicted of any criminal offense (excluding speeding and non-moving traffic offenses)?
Yes
No
If yes provide details concerning the date and place of arrest, the nature of the offense and the sentence and/or fine imposed:

Would you guys say that Tailgating (infraction) should be mentioned here? It's a moving traffic offense, and its not speeding, so I'm guessing yes...?

I would say no because they said "criminal offense". Tail gating is just an infraction not "criminal" in nature.🙂

I would call the school. You don't have to identify yourself. Better to either ask or just include it than for them to figure out you omitted it later if they wanted to know about it.

is the E-pay service working yet to pay the application fee?

edit: yep seems to be

can someone put the actual question for the "most meaningful exp" question? (where they ask for your total # of hours). I turned in the app and I may have misread the question (you can't read what you wrote after you turn it in). Thanks

Extremely happy to have just submitted this secondary. I didn't think I was EVER going to get my autobiography within the 6,000 character limit!

pleeeease? it's gonna bother the hell out of me all day.

Hi! Just wondering when you guys were verified by AMCAS? Did they acknowledge your application at all or you first heard from them with the secondary email? --thanks!

So, I just got the email telling me to create a single sign on account. When you signed in, was there any data? Mine says "we did not find a record to match your data."

Received the secondary this afternoon! Verified 7/8, I'm also OOS. Seems like they're having trouble with their application system though; Director of Admissions just sent an email saying they've been flooded with calls and emails.

Hi All!

I have finally finished my autobiography and the secondary site isn't working for me... Says something about site maintenance from Saturday 7/16- Sunday 7/17 10am. But now it's already Monday 5am and I still can't access it. Anyone else having a problem?

Congrats to all those who have been screened in!
my application has been pending for quite some time, despite the fact i have been verified since 6/6. Im IS, not like it makes a difference for UC's. Do you think i've basically been placed in a 'hold' kind of status, and they are trying to feel out what other kinds of applications they are going to get?
