Does anyone know when the CTE deadline is for admitted folks? Sorry if this has been answered before but I feel like it’ll give some clarity on when we could potentially be hearing back.

May 19th for PRIME programs and June 2nd for MD and MD/PhD!
Legend!!! Thanks so much, do you happen to be admitted? If so, any insight on how big of a class they’re looking to have this year and whether or not you think there will be any WL movement given the amount of current admitted students?

Unsure what the specific class size they are aiming for is, but did not hear anything about them aiming for smaller or bigger than usual. The Slack has not changed at all in weeks, but like others have said, I think people just don't bother leaving when they decide to withdraw. I personally know a handful of people choosing other schools who are still in the Slack.
I really cannot say much about WL movement, but I did meet a lot of people at second look who either had already committed to UCSD or decided to commit after the weekend was over. UCSD did a great job on second look and I think a lot of people were swayed.
Keeping my fingers crossed for all of you on the WL!

Do you know if anyone new has joined the class recently?

this seems like such tiny movement no? like is UCSD just a very "sticky" school in that they don't have folks turning down acceptances?
Yup! It has, checked in with a friend that’s in the slack and it has gone up by a couple I believ

Current student here, but not on admissions - definitely a very “sticky” school. The students here put a lot of heart and effort into second look (this goes for most things here, tbh) and it typically results in very high yield. Our current MS4 and MS1 classes had zero waitlist movement for instance.

Anecdotal, but I also heard from a friend on admissions that this waitlist wave was very very small. I didn’t get numbers, but it sounds like it was low single digits.

Thanks for the input! Do you think there may be more movement given this wave was so small?

I’m not on admissions so please take this as a grain of salt, but I feel that a small wave is more indicative of the end of offers rather than that there are more to come - especially with CTE already behind us. Wishing you all the best though, and hopefully a few more trickle in!

Thank you! Also, someone posted above that CTE deadline is June 2nd for MD and MD/PhD, so there may still be some hope?

That’s good news! In that case, there are probably better odds for a few more spots - but I would still be surprised if its more than a handful based off of the last four years.

Hope everyone is doing well!
Saw a user asking for the match list so wanted to put together a little unofficial "Match Highlights" post for y'all.

Does anyone know if the slack has changed in number at all over over the past few days? I’m just curious whether things are at a standstill or if there may still be a few trickling in

Welp, that’s that.

Dear PREFERREDFIRSTNAME:

We have received many emails from several people that were placed on the waitlist for the UCSD School of Medicine, and I'm sure many others that haven't reached out are also wondering about what to expect going forward. I apologize if we haven't sent individual replies to your inquiries.

At this point, our class is full, and we are nearing our "Commit to Enroll" (CTE) date of Monday, June 2. Once we pass the CTE date, applicants that have committed to UCSD will not be able to receive offers from other school. Thus, this means that we will only be able to make new offers if one our incoming students is granted a deferral to begin in 2025, or if somebody simply decides they don't want to attend medical school.

I can tell you from experience that this does happen sometimes, but it is not a common occurrence. I would not yet tell anybody that there is no chance. But the reality is that, based on the low likelihood of a spot opening, and the number of waitlisted applicants, the chances for any single applicant receiving an offer is low.

We are aware of the time pressure many applicants have with CTE dates from schools where you have received an offer - thus, if we do have a spot open up, we will act as quickly as possible to make a new offer, usually the same day. We also understand that others may be considering re-applying for the 2026 cycle.

We do not plan to formally make any cuts to that waitlist at this time and so if you as asking us to make a final decision prior to a specific deadline you have, all we can say is that if you haven't received an offer from us by your deadine, then by default our answer is that we won't be able to make an offer to you.

I understand this process is not easy. From our end, we are faced with an immense mismatch between the number of outstanding applicants and our capacity to accept them all, and we must make some difficult decisions.

I hope this information helps you plan, whether if means moving forward with another offer, or if you are thinking of re-applying.

Sincerely,

Brian Zeglen (he/him)

the "PREFFEREDFIRSTNAME" really added a personal touch

this really sucks. I guess it sort of gives us the closure we’ve all been waiting months for at this point. Congrats to everyone that is going to be attending a program this fall and good luck to everyone that is re-applying, we’re going to come back even stronger, I know it! Getting an interview and waitlist here is something to be immensely proud of in itself

Truly respect UCSD for sending this email out, compared to UCLA that has ghosted everyone since 4/30, their first and last day of pulling people off the WL.
