There's an additional essay. The length is 250-500 words.

All graduates wish to be outstanding practicing physicians, but many also have other areas of interest as part of their careers. Pick one or two of the following areas that sound appealing as areas of potential special professional interest:

* Biomedical Research
* Community Outreach
* Public Health
* Healthcare policy & administration
* Global Health
* Ethics
* Professionalism in medicine
* Medical Education

Please describe your interests.

These are professional interests, right? Not our own general interests/hobbies?

Yup, your interests as they relate to those categories. I was not prepared for this one, but am determined to submit this secondary today....

How are you guys already completing secondaries?? I haven't received an invite yet

anyone know the gender of the first author? It's kind of annoying trying to decide which pronoun to use. :lame:

lol I kept saying he/she.

I just completed writing the essays for these schools. Hope I get an interview as it is my number 1!

There's an optional essay (250-500 words) as well:
If you think there is any additional information that would help the admissions committee in its review of your application please use the space below.

I don't think I am going to use it because almost everything I wanted to say has been covered elsewhere, unless this is an opportunity to spring a diversity essay on them. But I get the feeling they would know I just copy pasted, so I would rather not take the chance of appearing insincere.

I thought this was a good place to say how you fit in at UF. I mean I just talked about my ties and other things that made me want to go to UF.

any idea on when the LoRs are received (according to the status page)? I mean, my primary was sent way back in june

Submitted both apps, LORs, and paid fee! That was not a fun secondary, but they definitely got information that wasn't on my primary. Hoping I get some love from my undergraduate university!

Does it say on the page that your LORs are actually received? Mine still has the red exclamation point, and I'm not sure whether or not to call.

Any Idea how strong the screen is? (what % gets it? Im an OOS applicant)

I'm not quite sure. To be honest, I haven't the slightest clue on where to check my status. I tried admissions.ufl.edu, but because I am an undergraduate student there, it has my undergraduate status.

They said in an e-mail they would send you a follow-up e-mail when your LORs are received.

I only know the number of OOS applicants that apply/ interview/matriculate (based on last year's MSAR).
Non-resident applications: 947
Interviewed: 19
Matriculated: 5

:luck:

I find the extrovert vs. introvert prompt to be confusing. When it says "Do you see yourself as more of an extravert or an introvert and how will this impact how you learn to communicate with patients and colleagues?," is it asking about the process of learning how to communicate that we think will work for our personality type, or is it asking how we think our personality type will impact how we communicate as physicians?

I called the admissions office regarding this exact question (I also interpreted the prompt like you did), and Leila Amiri said the prompt is intentionally vague. If it helps any, I went with the latter interpretation. I am glad someone else thought this was confusing as well though. I suppose creativity on their part = confusion on our part :laugh:. :luck:

Thanks for the information! 🙂

I think I will try to answer both questions, but it's good to know that they're being vague on purpose and they're not just looking for one specific answer to this question.

My application status says that my transcripts are missing (under link 'document status'), and also the 'letter of references' circle is indicating they're not in.

AMCAS got all that. On their page it says LOR go through AMCAS directly and I can't see anything at the moment indicating transcripts are sent to them specially/directly.

Can someone confirm receiving word that LORs are updated only post-secondary-submission and that the 'document status' box (w/missing transcripts reported) is not applicable to the MD app (i.e. it's there for all application types but since MD apps use AMCAS it's just an errant artifact?)

Thank you very much.

From their Facebook page:

Our new online application system is up! If you submit and get a message saying your transcripts and letters have not yet been received when in fact AMCAS has them, please ignore it. You'll eventually get an email stating that all five of your letters have been received, and that two are indeed character letters. Use your best judgment - we aren't looking at the author’s name and title, just the content of the letter, and what it tells us about you that the rest of the application does not.

Am I missing something or is the secondary for UF free? I had my credit card out to pay once I submitted, but all I got was a "thank you for submitting" email???

Do you think 250-500 means make the essays at least 250? I have the main two essays right at 500, but the extra interests question is only 170.

Quality over quantity. If you have said everything you wanted to say in those 170 words, no need to stretch it :luck:

Hey I'm unable to view Essay number 3s two essays from the medical students. My computer says PDF is unable to open file. Can someone please private message me the 2 essays or email me the pdf file. Thanks!

I'm applying for the second time so I used this as an opportunity to explain why I chose to reapply to UF. But for first time applicants you could use it to explain any low grades, breaks from school, publications, ties to UF, etc

Do we need a UFID # when we fill out the secondary? i dont understand why we need that when we have an AAMC ID

Yes. You get the UFID from completing UF's Professional School application, which they e-mailed out last month. It's also where you pay too.

Interview extended! black suit day under florida's sept sun

I haven't started this awful thing yet. I guess I'd better get on it.

Also, does anyone else feel like the third essay is some English class assignment?

Don't feel too bad. I think all of us have at least one secondary that's been laying around for a couple of weeks and we just can't bring ourselves to do it. NYU is that one for me. I would say get it done before the end of the week [since they still have bugs in their system, I think everyone will be complete at about the same time, regardless of when they submitted], and with stats like yours, you should be good to go :luck:

Yeah, I figured I couldn't possibly be the only person feeling like I'm dragging my feet a bit. Thanks for the encouragement. 🙂

I actually had several lying around for over a month at one point (Yale and Duke), but now I'm down to three total. I still have to finish Duke, which I've had since mid-July! At least they're a non-rolling school. Then it's just USF and UF. And my master's thesis.

Eek! I've gotten like 15 in a week I am so swamped! (ha..)

I need to Get Up And Go! :laugh:

I finally finished UF yesterday! That was my last one (of 11)!! Unless I get one from USF once they get my MCAT scores... that one does not look fun

Got a call for an interview invite this afternoon while in class! 😀 For those done with the secondary and marked incomplete still, don't worry... I am still incomplete on their website too. :laugh:

For people who received interviews, did you receive any more information about the interview day?

Also, do you think they match you with a student host or do you have to find your own place to stay?

An email should go out with more info, next week

We don't need to send our transcripts directly to UF for our secondary application, do we? Under "document status" it says all my transcripts are "missing". I have not submitted my app yet...

On the "home" page, it should say your transcripts were received from AMCAS... maybe give it a day or two... My app is "complete" but on the "document status" page it still says my transcripts are "missing" (though on the home page it says they were received).

Oh okay, I guess it'll fix itself sometime after I submit. One more essay to go!

Hey, what did you guys provide for the graduate application's personal statement? Would it be okay to C & P the personal statement from my AMCAS application? Please let me know? And why can I only select either audiology or plant medicine as the program of study? How do I let them know I am applying to the M.D. degree? Anyone know and can help me? Appreciate it!

I have no idea what page you are on... but this is not what I did.. I completed the application here: https://www.isis.ufl.edu/cgi-bin/eaglec?page=IPA-INTRO and was able to select the MD program. There was no personal statement. I think only the MD/PhD applicants had additional essays to include.

On another note:

I received a letter in the mail from UF Office of Admissions (not the COM specifically) requesting additional documentation to confirm my residency. I am currently on a student fellowship as an IRTA at the NIH, so I do not have utility bills or a lease in Florida. I gave my driver's license, voter registration and vehicle registration numbers on the graduate application - but they want more. The only additional mail I have with my Florida address on it is my car bill and bank statements. Is there anyone else in this boat? What should I submit? What have others done? Thanks!
