anyone have an idea on what gender the author of the Why do we do what we do? essay is?

Female. The author remarks that she shares a first name with the patient's daughter.

"He had two daughters, (one who shared my name), who had changed their wedding dates so their father could attend. "

I'm going to re-post this... I think it got overlooked since it was the last post on the previous page of the thread:

I received a letter in the mail from UF Office of Admissions (not the COM specifically) requesting additional documentation to confirm my residency. I am currently on a student fellowship as an IRTA at the NIH, so I do not have utility bills or a lease in Florida. I gave my driver's license, voter registration and vehicle registration numbers on the graduate application - but they want more. The only additional mail I have with my Florida address on it is my car bill and bank statements. Is there anyone else in this boat? What should I submit? What have others done? Thanks!

My spidey sense is tingling. II within a week for you 🙂.

Haha! I hope so. 🙂

I would call UF about it.

I am having trouble viewing the two student essays?? I have downloaded it twice and tried opening it with 3 different programs. All I get is two pages with only the titles at the top. No essay. Anyone else have this issue? Is it because I'm using a Mac?

Can someone please post the essays? 😳 Thank you

So I submitted on 9/8 and my status reads "your application is ready!". What are the next status updates?

I don't think UF rejects any student till the end of the admissions cycle, so the next status will probably be interview if one is granted. :luck:

interview invite via phone! i am UF alumni. I claimed another state for my residency but listed that i am a dependent under my parents who still live in florida. so i think i was considered IS.

i submitted my secondary 8/27. and my stats are average.

good luck to everyone waiting.

Thanks DrShazam! the 'accepted' is probably even greater than the 'matriculated.' Good luck everyone!

From last year's thread, students cited data from the administration that 2 out of every 3 interviewees are accepted. :luck:

We were told during my interview group (early 2011) that generally 80-90% of people who reach the interview stage will receive an invitation to attend the school at some point in time.

I was also at this interview group and it was definitely 2/3 of interviewees get accepted... 80-90% would be way too high.

I just got an interview invite!! Can anyone give me a general breakdown of the interview day with times and does anyone know what time the whole interview day is over??

I remember interview day being very long, and your interviews and tours are in the afternoon. I think you start at 9 or 10 and finish at 4.

This is assuming they haven't changed things in the two years since I interviewed, so who knows.

Oh, and go Knights! God, it just occurred to me that some of the students I TA'd may be popping up this cycle. The horror...

Congrats on the invite!

I just got an interview invite too and was told it is going to be an all-day event... I was told it could last until 5pm. I'm seeing if I can fly in, but I'm have difficulty finding flights that would leave Gainesville the night of the intervew day since it is such a small airport. Perhaps I'll end up staying an extra night or drive from another location. Are you going to stay with a student host?

Not sure if the logistics of this will work, but I'm driving down to Tampa after interview day ends (for September 30th). It's about a 2.5 hour drive, but I'm willing to give someone a ride to the Tampa airport, which is much bigger than the Gainesville airport. You would have to have a flight at 9pm or later to be on the safe side. PM me if you want to arrange something.

For those people that are flying in to interview. Do you have any idea how to get from Jacksonville Airport (JAX) to Gainesville?

I got the same letter from them. What did you end up submitting?

I'm working on my secondary to UF right now, but I live in Jacksonville. It's about a 2 hour drive or so from JAX to Gainesville. Best advice is take 295 South to I-10 then US-301 South.

That should help. Best of luck!!!

Are there no available flights into Gainesville? I've seen a lot more advertising for the airport than when I went there. IrishRogue has you covered, though. Just be extra careful for speed traps. There are a lot of small towns between JAX and Gville.

I sent every bill I had with my Florida address on it basically (car payment, credit cards, bank statement, jury summons). The grad admissions fax number did not work -- so I sent to to the undergrad number... I don't know if they ever received it. I have not heard anything...

I would NOT recommend flying into Gainesville. The prices are outrageously high and you most likely have to connect through another airport. If possible, fly Southwest into JAX (I believe Southwest has a hub there), and rent a car for the 1.5 hr drive. Speed traps are aplenty along the way, though!

II by phone this morning! couldnt imagine a better way to wake up!

According to US NEWS
They Interview 23 and Accept 64 from out of state, can anyone make sense of this?

stats please if you do no mind and also IS/OOS Thanks

The OOS interview thing may have something to do with their JHMP....not sure though that number still seems really strange...

Just wondering, when did you submit your secondary? And did your status read "your application is ready!" pretty much from the time you submitted until you got an interview?

To be honest with you im not sure, I only checked my status once, but I was complete Aug 22nd

Anyone know about the chance of getting in OOS once youve been granted an interview, cant seem to find anything, is there a new policy or anything this year?

Okay thanks. I submitted my secondary September 9th, I was just trying to see if they've started giving invites for people who submitted around then yet.. Good luck with your interview!

Did you ever try calling them? I couldn't get them on the number so eventually just left them a detailed message and they did eventually call back and left me a detailed message as well. I would definitely call them though if I were you and make sure they got it. Good luck!

Yea, I called the general admissions office (the number that was on the letter) and they said they had received my fax and were reviewing it.

Thanks!

All graduates wish to be outstanding practicing physicians, but many also have other areas of interest as part of their careers. Pick one or two of the following areas that sound appealing as areas of potential special professional interest:

Biomedical Research Community Outreach Public Health Healthcare policy & administration Global Health Ethics Professionalism in medicine Medical Education

This might sound silly but...
Is there somewhere I can find out more info on these topics as far as how UF would make it accessible through a curriculum or something? I can only find certain ones like Community Outreach associated with the Vet school for some reason

I don't think their website sheds that much light on their program. They have a great research track for med students, student run clinics, global volunteer opportunities...the typical array of things you would hope to find. I didn't really bring up any UF specifics for that question, but rather just what I'm interested in and how my background or activities tie into that interest. I think this question is assessing your extent of research on the opportunities a physician has outside of just seeing patients. Hope that helps a little?

The MSAR states 999 verified OOS applicants and 23 interviewed and 6 matriculated. I dont know if it is worth submitting a secondary as an OOS.

I missed a call and received a "please return our call" from UF today, but I got the message at 5:30 pm. I hope it's an invite! 🙂

I hope so. It sure is taking them long enough 😉. That's what I'm worried about, since my phone is notorious for not telling me when I've missed a call, and also not telling me that I have a waiting voice-mail :scared:.

This would be a great excuse for getting a new phone really soon.
