you guys are still counting weeks? i stopped that ages ago. i'm at 5 months and counting now. didn't they like me?

I wonder if we are at an disadvantage for having to wait. I mean this is rolling admissions.

When you ask them why it's taking so long, they usually say that they have different doctors and those doctors go at different speeds. OK, if that were true, than wouldn't the people who just happen to get faster reviewers have an advantage? I wonder if they have a system for correcting these things.

I'm taking the months long wait as they're not that interested in me and moving on to other schools. I think if they wait long enough it won't matter who they accept because most people will have committed, at least mentally, elsewhere.

These are my thoughts, too.

But If they are not interested, wouldn't it be easier just to waitlist us?

I don't think they're totally disinterested; I agree that if they were, we would already have been waitlisted or rejected. I think they had a larger number of strong interview performances than they were expecting, and now have a large pool of students who, in other years, might have been accepted, but this year admissions is uncertain and wanting to be cautious about how many they take until interviews are over, knowing that there may be more strong interviewees to come. I'm not so much bothered by the desire to make careful admissions decisions as I am by the failure to communicate the change in decision time frame fairly and promptly to applicants. We shouldn't all be finding out on sdn that the timeframe is now 15 or 16 weeks (or more). We should have been told this is in a polite (and apologetic) email. Based on the applicants who have linked their mdapps page, many or most of the people waiting to hear back from Vanderbilt are extremely strong candidates who already have acceptances at similar tier schools, so I do think this sort of admissions communication will sway some decisions. I know it has for me. Okay, sorry to repeat the same thing everyone else is feeling. I know it doesn't make the situation better.

This seems like a pretty good guess at what's going on.

Will there be a set of acceptance calls tonight? Also when is the last interview date. Also, anyone know on average how many acceptances go out for the ~100 spots? I've been accepted, just curious of the process

Looking at the stats does not make me feel good. Is it correct to state, they interview about 900 people
and accept about 300. From that 300, about a 100 enroll in the class.

Assuming the 300 acceptances don't take into account people who get in from the waitlist, the school must offer about 30 acceptances every Sunday ( I heard they offer 10 times in the application cycle).

My big question was how much is the interview weighted in the admissions decision? At some schools its as much as 80%

I don't know about the interview, but I would be surprised if the secondary didn't play a major factor in the admissions decision, considering that it wasn't used in determining interview invites. Anyways, I probably won't be hearing back anytime soon from Vandy seeing as it's only week 5 for me, but I hope some of you guys get calls tonight.

It's week 5 for me too! When did you interview??

A solid theory indeed. Not to mention the secondary was quite extensive.

You're right. I heard from some current students that the essays are weighed very heavily.

M.D. Class of 2016

Hey everyone, so I may have made a huge mistake but I was low on $$ and rescheduled my Jan 23 interview for Feb 10. It ends up saving me a bunch, but I'm wondering if this decision means that I will be interviewing just for waitlist??? Apparently Feb 10 is the last interview day of the season. Can any current med students share thoughts as well? Thanks!

Just got the active reveiw mail right now from Mrs. Sagen. Is this different from the waitlist?

What does it mean??????

Y u no accept me Vanderbilt?

Active Review:

"We hope you enjoyed your interview day at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. We want to assure you that your application is still under active review. We plan to make admissions decisions this season through March 2012 so please be patient."

Whatever that means.

As of just a few moments ago, I became the lucky recipient of another active review email that's worded exactly the same as the one I got in November. Joy.

Does anyone remember if any "active reviewees" were given acceptance?

+1. Glad to know I'm not the only one waiting so long!

We interview together, we get pseudo-waitlisted together. Solidarity.:highfive:

:hello: At least we're in good company! I'm considering withdrawing, except that I did like it and it doesn't cost anything to stay in.

I hear ya 100% girl. My thought process exactly. It's like we are living parallel lives.

also got the still being reviewed email. aauuughhh the adrenaline! i'm really trying not to be too attached to any one school in this process, because i just need to see where the chips fall and be happy to head off to med school. but it's so haaard to dooooo.

"Active review" email today. I'm pretty surprised they still want to "review" me, as both of my interviews here went terribly, I thought. Good luck to everyone in this position!

ETA: In case you were wondering how bad "terrible" really is: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?p=11930579#post11930579
(Although I have worked in fashion styling in the past, so perhaps they thought I was alluding to that...?)

I still haven't received an "active review" email, and I've been waiting almost 14 weeks... I feel so left out 🙁 lol

That sounds like a short interview question. I feel similarly. I thought the retroactive ethical questions were extremely awkward. I forget what the exact question he asked me was, but I remember sitting there blankly for 30 seconds then going on this long tirade about how I used the wrong restriction enzymes when I first tried to clone something and how embarrassing it was...flail
