Yale usually accepts 1.8 students for every position they have in their class. You can expect around 180 outright acceptances.

Is that 180-190 before or after wait list movement is all settled?

The yield rate at Hopkins is about 54%, I think, so ~220 total acceptances; I'm guessing this means 30-40 off the waitlist? Although, in my mind, that seems to be cutting it a bit close in terms of overaccepting...

Are interview invites here finished? Sigh, well I guess this is goodbye for now, Yale.

Does anyone know when Yale's second look weekend will be this year? I am trying to make travel plans for the spring, and on the off chance that I am accepted to Yale, I am just curious

Anyone have any tips for traveling between JFK and New Haven? I'm deciding on the shuttle service and drop-off/pick-up location. Thanks!

Edit: Also does the AM session end exactly at 2:30 or can you leave a bit earlier?

I prefer Prime Time Shuttle (http://www.2theairport.com/). It's slightly cheaper than CT Limo and in my experience, more reliable. You can get dropped off at Yale Medical School (select 333 Cedar from the School options) or at the undergrad campus.

I was in the PM session; the tours need to be "over" by 2:30 so that PM people can go to their interviews. I don't think it would be a problem if you needed to leave earlier for travel; the tours were student-led and pretty informal.

http://www.qconnshuttle.com/ is my suggestion. There are hotel drop off options, or you could just select New Haven and write in somewhere /call them after you've booked and tell them exactly where you'd like to be dropped off/picked up for no extra charge. This is the most convenient service I know of (CT limo/primetime are more expensive and don't drop you off at the door). It's also great because they don't cram you in with a ton of people like the other services.

I don't remember exactly when the AM session ended, but the last part was just a tour, so you could probably leave a little earlier if you really need to.

Yeah! No problem, J! It's actually a pretty new service. I think it started last year. It's great because it's usually just you and 1-2 other people in a big car. If they bring one of the vans they don't put more than 4-5 people in it, and they have a movie! They'll even come at any time of the day/night if you pay a little extra.

Whaaat. That is definitely cheaper. I wish I knew about this the past few years. Thanks for lettin me know, A.

Beautiful! Thanks for the advice.

I've heard that at this point even if invited we're just interviewing for a waitlist spot. Does anyone know how much truth there is to that? (Not trying to be a downer, just wanting to keep my expectations realistic.)
don't despair, someone I know (very well) had the last interview on the last day of interviews and got in. There is still a chance for sure!

Hi Guys,

I know that this question has already been answered a couple posts ago. But...

How many students do Yale really accept (not waitlist, but accept) outright on March 13th? Don't you guys think that it is a bit too much for them to offer 200-250 acceptances straightout for only 100 spots?

I guess the question boils down to this: do you guys know whether Yale over-accepts students?

Personally, I think that it's gonna be like this: 110-120 straight out acceptances, 100 waitlists, and the rest rejections.

"The medical school received 3,708 applications this year, the most in its history and 8 percent more than last year's total of 3,464, for an overall acceptance rate of about 4.6 percent. More than 53 percent of the 172 acceptances released today were for women, though only 47 percent of applicants were female. " This article is dated March 22 so it must have been before the waitlist movement.

However, this article is from 2005 but the numbers are comparable with to what Hotshy said. Who knows now though; maybe they're taking a Mayo-esque approach to acceptances and waitlists to fill their class.

Really? From the interview day, I remember hearing that Yale accepts exactly 100 students initially and only accepts more when some withdrew?

You may be right. The article is from 2005 so I would not be surprised if they changed their acceptance policy.

172 acceptances were offered, but not all 172 applicants matriculated. Yeah? =)

Is Yale still offering IIs?

IIRC (and drawing from last year's thread), the last interview session might be next Friday, the 17th. So I'd guess they were done, but am not positive.

Was anything said about the decision date at the interview? I though it was March 15th.

I remember hearing the 13th too, for decisions. :luck:

I heard this from the Admissions Office, too.

There's been some speculation on this thread that those who interview late are at a disadvantage. I was told that it absolutely doesn't matter when you interview, we all have the same chance. 🙂

Thanks for the date confirmation guys. Good luck everyone!

From what I understand, the earlier you get an invite, the more interested they are in you.

Dr Silverman said that interviews will be running at full speed every MWF until Feb 17th inclusively, so I guess interview invites have stopped being sent. Then it's deliberation time until March 13th.

I don't exactly agree with this. I think that it works more like the following (just my two cents): the earlier you receive an interview invite after completion of your file the more they are interested in you 🙂

Either way, March 13th ----- fateful day !!!!

I am thinking about sending Yale a LOI. Even though it was one of my very first interviews, I loved it.

But, despite considering myself a pretty independent worker, I am worried about the Yale System and what a complete lack of structure/pressure will do to me. I've never really worked in an environment like that. Can anyone comment on what structure there is, if any? And, how well people end up preparing for boards?

Hello,

I think that you will be fine. It is not really a system of complete lack of pressure. Remember, you still need to prepare for the Boards!!

Either way, best of luck to both of us on March 13th and to all the Yale2016 hopefuls on this forum! 🙂

Does anyone know how they will send out acceptances on the 13th (phone, email, snail mail)?

According to last year's thread and what I remember from the interview day, its by email around 1pm.

Quick Google search took me to a page that probably isn't supposed to be public yet, but it said April 19-21. (Same as Harvard. Where I also posted in reply to your same question. Haha 🙂

RSVPing to this right now would be hilarious. Someone please do it.

Does anyone know if Yale rejects post-interview, or does everyone get waitlisted? It would be nice to know how to interpret a waitlist decision (before we get it)

Guys we gotta inject a whole lot more energy in this thread haha:laugh:. Only 10 more days to go everyone!!!

And from what I know, Yale does both post-interview waitlists and rejections. The wailists are divided into three tiers (which I believe you get to know a few weeks following March 13th).

Like the insane neurotic energy found in the Columbia thread lol? I believe this thread not being so crazy is due to the fact that we know when Yale will release their info.

I always wonder how it must be to be an adcom member reading these threads...It must be ridiculous to know that once you strip the suits and ties off of the applicants, we all run on here like little kids around a campfire telling scary monster stories. Except there is no fire, no smores... just the scary stories.

Well said. So true. If I were an adcom member I would take a couple of peaks at my school's thread around decision time just for giggles. We get pretty crazy when there is no exact date and time for decisions!

😕

I heard several people in this thread mention March 13th as the acceptance release date.

Yup! March 13th is the date. I was referring to Columbia and other non-rolling schools who don't give an exact date.

Then look at us panic from 12:00 am to 11:59 pm in 9 days!

At the interview they said they would love to hear updates from us - do you know where we should send an update letter. Is email OK?

thanks

I emailed the admissions office on where I should send an update letter, and they said email would be fine. My interviewers even mentioned the letter during my interviews, so we know that email updates are included in our files. Good luck! :luck:

Does anyone know if there is a dedicated block for Step 1 studying at the end of second year? I interviewed here in what has felt like 1,000 years ago in "application cycle years" and I just don't remember. Also, the PDF on their website for the second year is (mistakenly) the third year schedule.

I'm super excited about this program. Hope the SDN contingent has good luck here next week! :luck:
