Just stopped by to say hi and good luck to all those who interviewed today. Saw you guys taking the tour but couldn't stop to say hi. I would be praying most of you (if not all of you) get that acceptance letter so that I can meet you guys again next year. And good luck to all those waiting! Don't lose hope. I interviewed late (around March), got in late (on May 15) but I'm still here and almost done with my first semester! :hardy:

Are you interviewing Jan 8 or 9?
 
For everyone that got rejected last year. Is this your guys' first choice school? How are they towards reapplicants? Did they tell you why you got rejected last year and did you improve on your stats this year?

I ask this because I am a reapplicant too, but I feel bad for some of the posters in here (in particular sweetness). It seems like this is your guys' only choice school and all of your hopes and dreams rely on this school. Hopefully everyone applied very broadly to lots of schools and not just to this or a few schools.

+1. It's good to have a first choice, we all do. But with the uncertainty of this process, and your whole life riding on the outcome, I can't imagine anyone applying to just one (or only a few) schools especially over multiple cycles 😱

I guess when this cycle ends, I'll better be tell!! This school is def my first choice. Whereever you apply or want to go, make sure it is a program that you like. You'll spend the next four years there. Good luck to you all! :luck:

I got the e-mail too, so now I am officially complete, LOL! Was hoping for more, but at least I am still in the running.

AliciaM, my first choice was Hopkins, but I am a dreamer, LOL. Also, I agree with you. It doesn't make sense to apply to one school or a few unless you plan to do a Early Assuance Program and know you will get into the one school (even then and can be risky and hurt your chances at other schools). I applied to several schools, but I can see myself at either one of them (pre-interview impression) because I took the time and did research before submitting my application.

Me too! It takes the pressure off. I'm currently taking 2 courses and oscillate between interest and lack of motivation. I took the courses to help with my MCAT retake and to improve my application when I thought I needed to reapply. Now I am waiting for them to end. LOL.

Currently up now doing a stupid paper for one of them. These weekly essays, although short, are annoying. Seem like busy work.

Yes same here! I could literally feel my heart pounding in my chest I couldn't even open it for a good 5 minutes...buttt it was nothing lol hopefully good news next time!

As for those of you who have recieved acceptances, are you still waiting to hear from Howard or have you confirmed your seats?

I am also a reapplicant, I am serioud about HUCM this time, I can feel it. From going on the open house tour to reading about HUCM history, speaking to students there, I know it is the perfect fit from me, I also believe it should show that in my application this year. When you really want something, somehow fighting for it comes so naturally.

Also, I think the holiday season may be slow, maybe those of you who haven't interviewed yet like myself 2013 will bring better luck? 👍 hopefully 🙂

I don't believe any acceptances have been made yet. They will start Dec 15 and then the 15th of each month after that.
 
Yep....me too....was hoping for other news...but it still is good news
 
I don't mean acceptances from Howard, from other colleges. From the post I read by MOE2BMD it implied they already had a seat for next fall! That is why I was asking..

So, to clarify my question if you have recieved acceptances from other colleges are you still considering HUCM?

I have a seat for next fall... Not at Howard. And yes, I am still considering Howard.

I have heard from almost all the schools that I applied to, and mostly positive news. Here I am stuck with 3 schools that are silent..Howard is one of them. My hope if fading. Anyone complete around mid-Oct who has heard anything? I thought my stats and application were ok..now this? Depressing or am I being neurotic? I'm international BTW

Yeah, don't worry. I was complete at most schools in July and have yet to hear anything from half of them. Wondering if they even got my app at this point, but bracing myself for an avalanche of rejection notices in the spring.

Don't worry guys, let's seriously hang in tight and hope for the best. It is hard, this part is harder than taking the MCAT or sitting through orgo chem, but this is the most importnat aspect of the med school process. I read earlier that december month at HUCM is going to be slow so lets hope that the year 2013 brings us all good news and blessed opportunities! 🙂

I just received a secondary invite today. I just wanted some feed back as to whether or not completing the secondary is worth doing, given that my application is rather subpar (3.6 gpa, 24O) and I am an international student, and not a URM. Also, I was wondering if anyone knew the extent to which Howard screens for secondaries? I am asking since I received a supplementary for Meharry, then rejected post secondary; I feel with a great degree of certainty that my MCAT is stopping me, even with the screening being taken into account. Thanks in advance!
 
wow, i had no idea Howard was still sending out secondary invites. just got an email today, and im hoping to submit my secondary by tomorrow night.

lol, are they super selective as to who gets a secondary?

Give it a try if you can afford it and if you are still looking to get an acceptance. Diversity, your stats are better than mines and stats aren't everything. Make sure you fit the mission and can mold yourself towards their school. I haven't heard anything yet but I am more than confident that they will give my application full consideration. If it makes you feel better, I was rejected from Meharry too!

3Na2K, cool name btw, I think they screen who gets their secondary. I'm pretty sure all the HBCUs do that.

probably those that interviewed may get their decision in December.......i think the rest of applicants, will hear back from Howard in 2013

Does anyone know if they give automatic secondaries, as their website implies, or only after screening? "Mid-August through December 15: Invitations to complete HUCM Secondary Application are sent by email to Verified Applicants."

I got mine yesterday as well after being verified for several months. I already submitted it! Just waiting to hear back now.

Nice way of putting it aspiringdoc! Diversity your stats are better than mine too, HUCM looks at mcat, gpa and work in underserved communities equally. So if you feel like you've done well in all three categories I say go for it. They will definitely review your application fairly. I'm also waiting for an interview invite, KEEPING HOPE! 😀
