Hey guys, glad to finally join this thread, got an interview invite yesterday for March 13th. 🙂
Is there any formal or informal student hosting program here at Howard for interviewers?
I've had an experienced at another school and it was awesome.

Hey,

No there isn't, unless you know some of the students there really well and can ask them to stay overnight.

Try this:
Sheraton Silver Spring (8777 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring MD 20910 (about 5 miles from campus) - Special Rate is $89.00 for Howard interviewees if you call the contacts that was provided in your invitation e-mail.

It's a pretty sweet deal

Yeah sounds like it..
Well I was in between that and the close by bed n breakfast that they mentioned in the email.

Im flying into DCA Reagan, are they both easy to get to?

I'm not sure where the B&B is, but the Sheraton is pretty metro accessible. (Red line, Silver Spring stop, maybe a half mile from there)

I stayed at the Capitol Skyline...it was three stars, very near the capitol, near the metro and 74 a night. For what I paid, I feel VERY happy about my room. My only complaint is... don't eat there. I took a taxi there on interview day $16.00 w/ tip and the metro back($3.50).

I stayed at the Motel 6 (6711 Georgia Ave Nw, Washington, DC 20012), and that was really cheap, clean and comfortable. I'm not a man of luxury and for me, I just need a clean and safe place to sleep so it worked well for me. It was affordable, and just one bus ride away from campus (the bus is in front of the hotel and drops you pretty much right in front of where you need to go).

Good luck with your interview! I love Howard.

Hello future docs! I am trying to send an update letter to Howard hoping they are still sending II... Can anyone tell me where i can send it? (Hard copy or email?)
I submitted a paper application and the link they sent me the first time doesn't work anymore. Thanks and good luck to all of you!!

If you send a hard copy, then send it to the admissions office. Their address is Howard Medical School, 520 W St NW Washington, DC 20059

How was your interview FcFabRegion? Congrats on your other acceptance.

In order to save your spot in Howard's freshman class, do you have to just send in the good faith deposit, or do you have to send in both the good faith deposit and the enrollment fee?

Thanks guys for all of the advice.
Is the interview day itself fairly laid back?
Im excited to see DC again and visit Howard, Im from Chicago 🙂

The interview is pretty laid back. Starts off with you and your peers in conference room for an orientation to the school. Then you are called away to have a one-on-one interview with a faculty member. Pretty much a conversation about who you are, what are your goals and how you plan to achieve them, and what you think the school can offer you in light of your goals (at least that was what I was asked for my interview). It's just a 'get-to-know-you' kind of interview. Hope you have fun!🙂

Stepping out of the shadows!!!....Still waiting and hoping for an ii from Howard!!! why dont they love me back

Hey everyone,

(Posted this on Morehouse's Thread but I wanted to ask here as well)

just wanted your opinion on my chances still. I've already been accepted at a school so I am more than thankful. But Morehouse and Howard remains my top choices because of its social mission and its history in producing leaders who fight for social justice. I've submitted my application in June but still have not heard back from Howard. My stats are 27R, 3.6 cgpa and 3.8 sgpa. I know that my mcat score isn't great but I'm huge on the social mission. Coming from a low income community, I aspired to serve in specifically underprivileged communities so I got my masters in education and taught 9th grade algebra at a high school in south central los angeles for a year. Currently tutoring chemistry, biology, anatomy, and math at a community college also located in the same neighborhood where many of my students are single parent aspiring nurses.

I'm sure many applicants are kind of in the same state of limbo - the waiting game. I've emailed Ms. Judith Walk here and there and have talked to the Dean of admissions by phone to ask for the status of my application in addition to expressing a continued interest despite already being accepted into another school. But their response has been that they are still reviewing my application. So, I just wanted to ask others who are in the same boat, at this point, should I just consider it a silent rejection? I know that many people are killing for one acceptance and so I am soooo grateful. But if I can choose, I would want to spend the next four years studying medicine with like minded people, people who are doing this for the most marginalized and disadvantaged communities. Also, wanted to add in I'm Chinese-American. I know the school embraces diversity but I don't know if this plays a role this late in the application cycle with Howard being a HBCU. Thanks everybody and good luck!

hey kalvin008,

Congrats on getting the acceptance. Alot of the applicants applying do have similar reasons on attending a school such as Morehouse or Howard. There is also much diversity in the classes.

Keep in mind that there are nearly 7000 applications that come here, so there is a good chance that even a good applicant may not be able to get that interview. You just have to wait and see. Good luck and again congrats.

Hey guys, what time does the interview day usually end around? Can I get away with buying train tickets that depart at 2:30 pm? Thanks.

I'm flying into DC tomorrow morning for the interview on Wednesday.
I'm looking forward to finally seeing the school and meeting everybody on interview day.
Hopefully see some of you there!

I wouldn't recommend it. We weren't out of there until 3pm....ish. Enjoy your day! 🙂 You don't want to be worried about trying not to miss an early train!

Just left Howard, this interview day was amazing, Howard is a great school with people that truly unite behind a single mission and actually execute their plan. Admissions staff was one of the nicest and most helpful that Ive encountered during this process, and students appear happy and very driven. I would be honored to attend if given the opportunity..

P.S .
Sitting in on the 1st year Pulmonary lecture was awesome, and I even answered 2 questions when the professor called out the interviewees and got an ovation.. I was humbled, and it truly made my day!!

Sounds awesome! I had a somewhat similar experience. I got to go into the anatomy lab, while the first years were dissecting cadavers. Great school, great students and enthusiastic and encouraging faculty.

I hope you get accepted! Good luck!

Thanks! I hope so too.

Great to hear that you enjoyed your visit and interview and good job with the whole pleural effusion answer. Nicely done.

Out of curiosity...has anyone who received the "call now, or wait for the snail mail envelope" received a rejection? Hugs to all!

I think Howard has a high post-interview acceptance rate. If you got the "Call us" email, I don't think it would be for a rejection (awkward conversation to do by phone). I assume rejections would be by mail/email with no request to call them.

Looks good. Congrats to you! 🙂

Thank you for your kind words - I'm sorry, I could see where my post might seem that way, but I don't want to misrepresent - I haven't gotten an email. But, I am sure hoping for one in the days to come! 🙂 Hugs.

lol, well hopefully a bunch of the people on here do get that mail. As it is the 15th of the month, I think there should be some decisions coming soon. 🙂

First time posting here, I interviewed earlier at Howard and am waiting with you all. 🙂:scared::luck:
