Has anyone been rejected or placed on regular wait-list?

I was rejected. However, they told me that my application is being considered for the Master of Health Sciences (MHS) program.

Whatever that is lol.

Right... Starting to wonder myself seems to bè a growing pool
Yeah, but if you look on SDN, only like 5 people max have said top 10% - I believe we are very very likely to be accepted, because if the waitlist was EVEN 200 people, there would only be 20 of us in top 10% - and from what I hear, there is a lot of waitlist movement. A lot of people from the top 10% could also decide to go to other schools etc.

So here's what I know so far 4 included myself have stated we are in the top 10% on this site... From my interview group there was 2 more that I talked to with the same top 10% email. Another person said they got a waitlist without any percentages or any kind of acknowledgement of their ranks.. SO seems like a legit small pool but who the hell knows... I do remain very hopeful though

Hey guys, I thought I would share my experience thus far with Meharry and admissions this year. I interviewed on January 28th and I was notified of being in the top 10% February 12th. Like many of you, I wasn't sure what my email meant. After a heated debate with myself and family, I called the admissions office and spoke with Ms. Davis. She told me that the top 10% eventually get contacted. She wouldn't reveal how large the top 10% was or the regular waitlist. She just informed me that previously all top 10% get offers. I am of course skeptical but optimistic. This is my number 1 choice school, I also feel like I am getting ulcers lol. It's nice to know that we are not alone and hopefully will be classmates this fall or next year. One last thing, she said to not expect movement tell after April 15th when all students have to commit to one school. May 15th is the next date to be patient about as well.

Stay positive!

Glad someone heard the same thing I did. I just pray this is not an atypical year! I thought May 15th was the date students had to commit to one school? If not then what is the diff btw april and may? I'm with you on the ulcers, it is driving me crazy not knowing for sure I am going to Meharry. I have to sell a house, a business, and relocate a family of 4! I decided to think positive and start the process of getting the house on the market which is no easy task itself. God Bless and hope we both hear sooner rather then later!

So for those accepted, does an acceptance notice come via email? Or do they call/snail mail?

According to AMCAS, any medical school that begins class before June 30th, their prospective students have to declare their spot and only one by May 15th. All other schools who start in August or September, their prospective students have until April 15th. So, for us on the waitlist, spots necessarily don't become available tell after these dates.

On a side note, I also am afraid this will be an atypical year. Unfortunately there is nothing we can do now accept pray, send only informative correspondences to Meharry admissions, and wait; which is the opposite of all of our natural tendencies. We want to be doctors to help resolve issues, NOT WAIT! 🙂 Cheers to success!

Ok. That makes sense, when does meharry start? I know it's late June but not the specific date.

Did you say you believe it will be an atypical year based on something specific, or are you just like the rest of us, who are hoping its not?

I hope it's an atypical year. I have zero facts to believe it will be. I believe it's a natural feeling when an applicant is applying to question their application cycle.

I hear you! Hopefully we top 10% people all get accepted soon 🙂

Will interview here in the next couple weeks. I am looking for a cheap and convenience hotel. Any advice and suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

It appears there is no acceptance since Jan 26, 2013. It makes me feel the recent interviewed spots are for wait-lists.

I interviewed on Feb 25 and got the top 10% wait list email a week later on March 4

On my interview date, they mentioned how many seats they have and how many acceptances they gave out so far. Does anyone have an updated figure?

I didn't hear if they had any seats left when I interviewed on Feb 25th - When did you interview and how many seats did they still have open then?

I'm not certain on the exact number, I want to say they said accepted almost 105 people or a little over that. I've heard that most med school ADCOMS typically accept 1.5 - 2.5 their class size so I wasn't too concerned. Maybe meharry does it a little differently.

I am hoping they do it differently, because with that kind of over-enrollment, there would practically be no need for a waitlist! I know the LCME does not look fondly on overbooking and schools, in some cases, can even face accreditation problems if they over-enroll!

I do believe that the class was just about full when you interviewed. I strongly believe my interview day, Feb. 25th, was for the waitlist. Fortunately, it looks like those of us who are in the top 10% are going to end up getting in.

The waiting game still does not feel great though!

I doubt thats what he meant, 105 students now accepted but as they receive multiple acceptances they may withdraw ( and based on previous years many do). Those are 10% waitlist are then accepted increasing the total accepted students number. 105 plus the 50 or 100 accepted from the waitlist (in April/May/June) =1.5 to 2 times the 105 person class size. This year may be atypical because there may not be much wailist movement.

When you say there may not be much wait list movement, do you mean there will not be much movement in the entire wait list, including those in the top 10%, or movement in the normal wait list, not including the top 10%?

I also interviewed the 25th and received a top 10% email...With the growing number of 10%ers....my optimism begins to wane a little

This thread is getting kinda depressing. Everyone stay positive, there are good things in store. There is always waitlist movement at this school from what I can tell. So although it sucks waiting stay optimistic.

Yeah, We need to get a hobby lol...Let's celebrate - we top 10% people are going to be classmates this fall...we will actually see each other in just over 3 months at MAPS...How's that? 🙂

What makes you believe it will be an atypical year?

Many at my interview were REALLY putting Meharry as first choice including myself ( not just saying this to get an acceptance). If you search for Meharry 2012-2013 thread here it will show you the timeline for those accepted in March-June. Many spots were offered straight out even in March. Also, medical school admissions in general is more and more competitive every year therefore many more are holding onto any acceptances for dear life.

I know, the 10% people are in a VERY good position...Don't believe me, just watch- Trinidad James.

Ok, here are the facts: Every medical school no matter how you rank them, number 1 school in the country or number 110, will accept more students then they have positions for. Usually, the stronger the school the less they have to use the waitlist or the less spots they offer. Easy example, Yale/Harvard offer 50 more acceptances than they have seats for. Meharry may offer double or triple its spaces.

Another fact, there are 105 spots this year for the class of 2017. However, 20 of those spots are for MD/MDPHD program. So there is really only 85 seats for the MD program. Fact is from Ms Davis.

Another fact, every year is different. Nobody knows what this year is like except the admissions committees. So lets all be optimistic. Fact from Ms Davis.

Last fact is a comparison. OHSU is my local medical school on the west coast and is highly recognized. My buddy is a freshman in medical school there. Last year they went to waitlist spot 60 something.

University of Miami Miller, my cousin graduated there and her class had waitlist attendees near 80 on their waitlist.

Both of the above schools don't rank their waitlist. If your in the top 10% for meharry, I would start making plans to be in Nashville. At the same time, being proactive and seeing what you can do differently for next year just in case you have to apply again.

I truly believe if the goal is worth it, no matter what path gets us there, we all will prevail!

Anyone please give some inputs. I am waiting for your input prior to booking a hotel.

addie come on you know you freaking out like the rest of us....Until you hear those words "accepted" how can you be cool..

Yeah my last comment was valid until brownwil1025 posted that there are only 85 regular MD spots instead of 105 lolol.

I had not realized that either, but hopefully they have somewhat proportionally interviewed for the slots in reg md vrs md/phd accordingly

Course I am a bit, but trying to stay optimistic and not drive myself into a nervous breakdown in the meantime lol.

I guess its the lack of knowing what to do with myself in the meantime - I am not motivated that much to study for the MCAT again because of the very high chance of being accepted off the top 10% list, but I am also not calm about not studying because of the lack of certainty...April 15th feels like a very far way off. However, like you, I am trying to stay as calm as possible - works some days and doesn't on other days 😛

This is what I feel like on the waitlist 😍

Ahh, I never want to take the Mcat again. I think I will honestly apply DO route before retaking it! Just curious what was your MCAT score if you dont mind answering?

+1 on the MCAT, -1 on the DO lol

I think I just saw a piece of tumbleweed go by! Are people hearing anything back?!

Hey guys, I just went threw all 16 pages of last years thread for Meharry admissions. All top 10% got offers. From what I can tell, 5 people off the regular waitlist. Stay positive! Again these are just from the forums!

Let us hope the statistics remain true for this year - The fact that all top 10% people were accepted in the past would make it that much more entertaining if it was different this year. April 15th is very far away and yes, we remain hopeful, but it is a month away before we may see movement. Buckle down y'all lol.

Hey you guys - I started a thread for those of us on the top 10% - I thought it would be cool for all of us to introduce ourselves and let each other know our stats - more importantly, we can see easier when waitlist movement starts occuring...and we can encourage each other - People on the normal waitlist are welcome to chat there too.
