Ok thanks for the input. I don't know much about the area, but I'm probably going to try and live as close to campus as possible. How far is Crozer from the pre-clinical campus? And how far is Bethlehem from Philly?

Edit: Did a somewhat blind googlemaps and it looks like TUSM is 30-40 minutes from Crozer and 90 minutes from St. Lukes. If accepted, at what point do they tell you which clinical site you are assigned to? And can you trade or request to switch? If assigned to Crozer, would it be worthwhile to live near TUSM for the first 2 years, then move closer to Crozer for clinicals?

I think what Google told you is pretty much right. It will be on your acceptance letter which clinical campus you were accepted to. It is possible to switch but I believe it's harder to switch TO main campus and easier to go from main campus to another clinical campus. As a note, when I applied 2 years ago (ALREADY?!), Crozer was not considered its own campus, at least it wasn't one of the ones they wanted us to rank, it was just West Penn, Geisinger, St. Luke's and main campus.

You can absolutely move closer to Crozer for clinicals, but it would probably be easier to rent maybe in South Philly, then take Septa up the Broad Street Line to school and you'll be a bit closer to drive to Crozer, if you find yourself in that situation. The school and hospital aren't in the best neighborhood, and though some of my classmates live right around the corner from or directly behind school in houses specifically rehabbed to be rented by TUSM students, the majority of the class lives in Manayunk or in Center City (anywhere from the Art Museum to South Philly, really).

Temple's secondary is still giving me trouble and telling me about busy traffic and how it gets overloaded. 😡

Ok great! You've been very helpful, thank you so much.

Hey does anyone know if you are allowed to do like one year at another clinical campus and another year at another clinical campus or even like a few months here and there to get different perspectives? i would liek to get the best view of medicine and doing clinical work like this would seem awesome. (something a lot of the carribean schools have that US students dont which is a plus for them i guess if you look at it that way)

I don't think I've ever heard of someone doing this. You'll have the chance to do away rotations, though (there's a limit but I don't know what it is) and if you're at main campus you could potentially rotate through several different hospitals.

Did anyone else's application ask you to rank your first choice, second choice, third, fifth, then fourth for the clinical campuses? instead of in the right order 1-5...i'm not sure what will happen when I submit since the fourth and fifth slots are switched.😕

Considering these are your fourth and fifth choices, did you actually care?

I did a diversity one hahaha. Just used another secondary I wrote and modified it slightly 🙂

Ha! Honestly, you can probably call and ask admissions to make a note in your file, but I think it'll be a non-issue. I think almost everyone gets their first choice, though people at the end of the cycle and those coming off the WL have a better chance of getting their second choice. I think I've really only seen, "I wanted main campus and was accepted to X."

This is what I would do, too.

I'm stuck on "Why Temple?" It's a medical school, I dunno. I'm a CA resident so I applied to schools all over the place. Researching Temple didn't really help, there's not a lot of info on what makes the school so different.

Not trying to sound rude or anything, but if you can't think of why you would want to attend Temple, why are you applying?

Because there's a disconnect between what goes through an applicant's mind and what they actually say.

They think: "I want to be a doctor, but med school is tough to get into. I'll apply to lots of schools."

They say: "This medical school has the best mission statement EVER! Of course it's my top choice!"

Yea that's true

Stuck on the "How do you plan to contribute to the TUSM community"? What are you supposed to write on here? Diversity?

+1 for diversity even though I am starting to think I should have done something different since this seems to be what everyone here has done.

Relatively new education and research facility... countless research opportunities... urban environment... numerous extracurricular activities (even though this isn't necessarily unique)... global health opportunities... etc etc

Can anyone expand more on St. Luke's and Bethlehem, please?

Do you think our ranking of clinical campuses alters our chances at admission in any way?

This happened to me too! I called Temple today and they said I was the first person to ever tell them about that. Maybe you should call too so they're aware it's an actual problem some people are getting.

Follow up report: the person who answered the phone in the admissions department claimed that our choice of clinical campus is not a factor in admissions.

Does Temple have extracurricular activities like community service and intramural sports? This stuff is important to me but I can't find it on Temple's website anywhere. Thanks!

yeah I'm finding it really hard to find info on their site to answer the "why temple" question...

edit: nvm, I was not looking in the right place. there's good info on the site

Whatever you feel. Enough to say what you want to say, but don't BS. It's not about how much you write; it's about what you have to say.

is the "what will you contribute to TUSM?" essay basically a diversity/what makes you unique kinda thing?

Community service is huge at Temple. There are groups that do off-campus community service at clinics, go to shelters for health education, etc, etc. There are also a ton of groups through school, such as interest groups, where you can do all this community service.
Intramurals are also pretty big. Soccer is big, and I think there is volleyball also. I'm sure there are more sports, but I can't think of any off-hand.

If I remember correctly, at interview, they really emphasize all these groups and have a big list that they give you.

Is there a martial arts club or something?

For those that have submitted, is your status under the "status and information" menu still "verified?" Just wondering to see if perhaps I am missing anything.

Yeah my status says exactly the same thing. I wonder why it hasnt been updated considering I've been done with secondary for awhile now.

Yea, but I sent my payment late last night.

I submitted a while ago too and my status hasn't been updated either. I'm gonna wait till Friday before I start freaking out 🙂

sorry for a silly question, but how do you submit? I can't seem to find it......

First choice for anyone else? Sure, it's not top tier, but I absolutely love Philly, and the program here sounds fantastic.

It's one of my top choices. I'll make it a top choice if they're my first acceptance!

Hey all!

I'm probably the only one on here who's actually from Bethlehem, PA so if anyone has any ?'s about the city direct them to me! A few things off the top of my head:

Bethlehem itself is actually quite small, unfortunately 🙁 I grew up there and got out as fast as possible! Needless to say, that may be just because that's the only place I knew and I wanted to explore a little. Bethlehem is a part of the Lehigh Valley, which consists of Allentown- Easton- Bethlehem and all the little suburbs in between. It's not all that bad I think, but you def. are not going to take public transportation anywhere!

Lehigh University is located in Bethlehem, which brings a lot of younger folks to the city, and they have some pretty fun places to go and things to do. They are really big on football and it's fun to go to their games in the fall.

It gets cold 🙁 but I guess so does Philly so...

It's not all that bad but I think its a bit boring. Maybe I'm biased tho!

As for what the admissions committee said about that not having an affect on admission, they told me the same thing, but I kinda think that's not really true. If you say St. Luke's, you get interviewed at St. Luke's so I don't see how it can not have an influence! Also, if almost everyone gets their first choice but there are limited spots... I dunno I'm just putting two and two together!

Anyway let me know if anyone wants to know anything else!

Does anybody have any insider knowledge of the differences between the Crozer-Chester and the Temple University programs?

Read the past posts (if you haven't already). One of the current students gave me some insight in regard to the location, but that's all. Apparently Crozer-Chester wasn't offered as a unique site last year.

I read all those, but nobody mentions anything about the Crozer-Chester medical center or area. I think they were describing the dowtown philly area, not Crozer-Chester.

has anyones status changed???? mine still says verified 😕

Let's be clear, TUSM/TUH is not 'downtown'. It's North Philly.

Honestly, I know next to nothing about Crozer-Chester. It does, however, seem like a good second-choice rank for people that really want to stay in the Philly area. If I had to rank it when I applied, it would have been my second choice (as it was, I picked St. Luke's) because I was determined to stay in the area. I actually only applied to the schools in the city (bold move, I know).

I was thinking the exact same thing about "downtown" and TUSM. It is oh so very different than downtown/Center City.

Also haven't heard anything about Crozer. I've only ever passed it on Rt 95. We do have rotations there 3rd & 4rd year, but since that is not a clinical campus for us, we don't know much about it.
