Interviewed at Duluth Tuesday; here are some thoughts:
Susan in the office is great, makes you feel very relaxed before the interviews. Two one-hour (at least - I think my first went a little long) interviews; I had one with a doc and one with a community member. The focus was mainly on me and why exactly I wanted to do family practice - especially in a rural community. Touched on some activities mentioned in the primary as well as my personal statement, and then the secondary application (more so because the questions they were asking were similar to those in the secondary than because they were asking about my responses to the secondary itself). Also played some 'what would you do' type games in the interview with the doctor, while in the one with the community member we went more into the business/law side of medicine (definitely a minor piece compared with the interview as a whole). All in all, the interviewers were very easy to talk with, I definitely felt comfortable during both sessions. If you have any questions about the interviews, interview day, travel, etc., by all means ask away or pm me and I'll answer to the best of my abilities.

Interview invite to the Twin Cities as well today! IS with a 32O and a 3.9gpa. Some very unique ECs as well

So anyone else going to the Twin Cities interview Sept 17th? I'm also wondering aloud if its the first interview date for TC...

13th was the first date I was offered. I will post here when I find out my confirmed date.

Interview invite to Twin Cities campus. OOS. Secondary complete August 7th.

idk, but that was the first date they were offering me when i got my TC interview invite email

Hey everyone!

Just wondering how long it took you all to get a secondary after verification. I've been waiting for about 20 days now and still nothing..

AMCAS submitted to MN June 29th and didn't get the secondary for about 45 days OOS. Don't expect to get it soon. It will probably take longer because you didn't submit right away.

I was verified 8/27 and just got the secondary invite today. Seems like that is faster than their usual turnaround. In-state

From what has been posted on this thread and the one from last cycle, that does seem fast. Are your stats, or other aspects of your application, extra strong? It's been just over three weeks for me and no supplemental yet.

My MCAT is really strong and my GPA is about average. Activities pretty good. Still seems strange since I thought the screening they do is minimal

Screening is low, but if they saw something exceptional in your primary they may want to interview you sooner rather than later. It also seemed like secondaries did not go out based on primary submission date, I think it had more to do with location or it was completely random. Not to get your hopes up, but I wouldn't put too much weight in the response time.

Hi all,

So I submitted my ACMAS yesterday (I know super late but it’s the best I could do right now) and I received the email asking me to choose what school about 5 hours later. I read through this thread trying to figure out if that happened to everyone else as well.

Basically I am asking if that email was an automatic email sent to everyone who applied regardless whether they get a secondary or does that mean I will get a secondary. I was “prescreened” already? It was just so fast I can’t believe its true.

Everyone receives the email you speak of. If you choose to apply to both campuses, expect a supplemental invite from Duluth shortly. The TC supplemental, which I patiently await, appears to be taking 3-5 weeks from the time AMCAS verifies your primary. Good luck!

Just had my Duluth II today. Some thoughts:

Everyone was extremely nice. Susan was great at putting both myself and the other interviewee at ease before we started and opened up some small talk. As far as the actual interviews, both of the interviewers were very friendly and easy to talk to. Both emphasized that as faculty members they always keep their doors open and are open to students coming in at any time to talk to them. As far as the questions they asked. The first interviewer talked mostly about the challenges of getting rural docs to places in MN. Our conversation varied wildly though as we even spent some time talking about terrorists. (we somehow ended up there from talking about telemedicine)
My second interview really hammered down on the where do you see yourself in ten years and how do you handle certain situations in medicine(no right or wrong answers but some very tough situations) Then finished up with some great info on RPAP.
Finally we toured with 2 2nd years which was very beneficial to get their opinions on many things like the curriculum, classmates, lifestyle, etc and got to hear their uncensored answers. and yes they were very honest on all aspects.
if you have any other questions feel free to pm me!

Did you guys receive confirmation emails that supplementary was complete? Or did it go submission to II?

if i remember right, i believe i just got a payment submitted thing and then got a secondary invite. no your file is complete email.

Kalbrecht17, mind sharing when you submitted your secondary/fee? Thanks!

i submitted my secondary with all my fees paid on the 17th of july. however i didn't have a letter come in until the beginning of august so idk when my file went complete for certain.

Twin Cities

OOS, Rejection via snail mail arrived yesterday.

:luck:

Sorry about that 🙁

I'm expecting the same, no II as of yet. Rejection letters to OOS applicants went out around this time last year too.
When did you send your secondary in?

There are another 25 applications out there...just need one!

Secondary was sent in 8/10, not sure on complete date. I was hoping my ties would be enough, oh well 🙂

Yeah, pretty strong ties here myself but that doesn't stop the U from rejecting us OOS.
Oh well, have other applications out there. Would have been nice to go home for school but it wasn't meant to be.
Good Luck to the both of us.

Interview invite just now at the U!

What an incredible feeling--I would absolutely love to go here... So many opportunities!

Interview invite just now as well. Complete 7/31. I will say that I am very impressed at how accomodating their admissions committee is, because I had emailed saying that I was going to be there for a family affair, and they gave me those dates as options. Thanks UMN!

Also, I used to work in the building next door, so if people need advice about getting to and from the area and navigating public transportation from the airport, PM me.

Thx for the info. I'm really hoping for some Duluth love!

Just had my interview at the Twin Cities Campus today. A wonderful interview day overall, great tour of facilities with MS2's, relaxed small group atmosphere (we had 6 students), interview both in the morning and the afternoon was a nice format for lowering stress and getting perspective. Best of luck!

Awesome--I forgot they do two interviews... My interview here three years ago was only one person because they didn't have enough staff for the day or something along those lines.

We'll have to connect about your interview soon!

which facilities did they tour with you? Did they take you to each floor of UMMC?

Well I just realized I cannot open the coffee hour attachment at all. Does anyone else have the information for the coffee hour tomorrow evening? I'd like to go if I can!

Does the TC campus offer student host? I couldn't find that information anywhere.

I am ready to submit my secondary, but have a question regarding the final essay question "What other pertinent information would you like to bring to the attention of the Admissions Committee? If there is none, please enter N/A."

I feel as though I have addressed my qualifications, work experience, etc. sufficiently. What is your opinion on entering N/A?

I would enter N/A. Both years I have gotten interviews I have put N/A.

The tour was much more comprehensive of the pre-clinical facilities, such ass all the classrooms, labs, study space, student lounges, and library. We did go to the hospital for lunch, which was awesome. the food was great and great views!

Dude that cafeteria is our go-to after class in my MPH program, haha... it's very underrated. I think it's the decor in the cafeteria itself, hahaha...
