And for anyone interested, the earliest available interview dates according to the website are now in December, but they seem very accommodating if you want another, even earlier, date! I emailed admissions saying that I would be on the East Coast the last week of Oct. for another interview (flying from CA), and they were very prompt in giving me my requested day (Halloween!)

my status used to say complete with green checkmarks next to required materials, now it still says complete, but has red checkmarks...wonder if that means something

I'm usually a strict lurker, but I thought this info might be interesting to someone:

II this morning, complete yesterday (10-3) afternoon! 🙂 First one, so I'm COMPLETELY freaking out/ecstatic. Yale is definitely at the top of my list. And holy moly, <24-hr turn-around time!

Stats:
3.8+ GPA
36+ MCAT

So to all you "late" submitters: don't lose hope!!

no way - congrats! that's awesome! did you check the box for disadvantaged applicant on AMCAS by any chance?

II ! 😀 I'm starting to really get into this SDN thing. I used to just watch but it's more fun to join the craziness that ensues on this thing.

So, if I was complete the end of August, does that mean silent rejection?

I'll assume you're talking to me.

Thanks! 🙂 And no, haha, quite the opposite—I'm East Asian, solidly middle class, and I grew up in the suburbs. I think I just got really lucky and had my app fall into the hands of someone who knew I was desperate for good news, STAT.

Does anyone who has had an interview know what time the interview day actually ends? I know they say no later than 5:30, but I want to catch a train at 5:50...

Does anyone know of any buses that go between New Haven and Boston? I'm hoping for a cheaper option than Amtrak. I know about Megabus, but from what I can tell, they only make one trip per day between New Haven and Boston, and that will work for me going to New Haven the night before my interview, but not leaving the next day.

Greyhound maybe?

why is there such a big difference for the time frame between application complete and interview invite for different applicants?

Yale is non-rolling so there is no difference to them or the applicant whether the interview is early in the season or late in the season. Also because they are a top ranked school, they probably can review applications in whatever order they like. Because of this and the seemingly random order of interview invitations, they do not likely strictly review applications in the order they were received. Another system of the way they order review of applications would likely explain this trend. However, since no one knows (outside of those affiliated with the admissions office), it would be impossible to predict when X applicant with Y stats would get an interview invitation.

Yeah, Greyhound has a lot of options, and the station is close to Yale. I'm also going from New Haven to Boston. Seems like 8pm bus with a connection is the only option though (for the day I chose, anyway).

Oh, Greyhound is a good idea (thanks also to the first person who mentioned that). Looks like I'd also be taking the 8pm bus with a transfer. I really hope it's straightforward how to find the bus to transfer to. I really don't want to get stranded in Hartford

II 10/4: Complete 9/26. Shocked and happy. (sorry for the late post, I've been busy trying to finish secondaries)

Wow, that was a quick II. Congratulations!

I have a favor to ask of someone who has interviewed/is interviewing soon....for the travel survey they sent, can you check to see if you get taken to the survey page if you click the link after already having filled it out? Or does it say something along the lines of "you have already submitted a response"?

I think i filled this out, but i got the email about 6 weeks ago so I'm not positive I did.

Thanks in advance!!

I am still able to fill it out and I am pretty sure I completed it. 🙂

Thanks, Tots! Also, got excited for a sec that I might see you at Yale but saw that you are going to Mt. Sinai/Cornell first...i'm interviewing at Yale this week so doesn't seem likely you'd be there?

If I was complete on Aug 29, is now a good time to upload a letter of interest/update?

Yeah I won't be at Yale until next week. 🙁 I guess we will just have to wait until we both get accepted to meet at 2nd look! 😉

If anyone is going to New Haven from New York, take the metro north (like others mentioned) amtrack f'ing blows.

I'm not coming from New York, but I'm curious--why the hate on Amtrak? I've taken Amtrak a fair amount, and I don't think it's quite worth the money, but it definitely isn't bad.

Amtrak has a nasty habit of never running on time. Also, the new MetroNorth trains are really nice (and clean!) the old ones are kinda horrible though...

Replying because my situation might be of interest to some applicants - I received an interview invitation earlier today, and my application became complete ~6 days ago.

Sure. 3.8/3.9/38. My ECs are pretty standard (lots of volunteering, clinical/bench research, TAing) - I think my research recs were probably what got me the interview.

Haha, I'm usually someone who sees the glass as half full, but Amtrak in my experience is a mess. Every time I've taken the Amtrak it:

A.) Has been a bit too expensive (compared to driving).

B.) Runs consistently 2-3 hours late.

C.) Takes forever to get to the destination (once it took nearly 8 hours to get from NC to DC, a trip that normally takes half the time by car or bus), and this was on top of a 3 hour delay. There were even frequent stops for "smoke breaks" hahaha.

But maybe that's just in the Southeast...I'm jealous of those fancy-shmancy "bullet" trains you guys have up north. 🙂

Interesting haha. I've only taken it in the northeast, and it's pretty decent, aside from the interior lights (and power to the electrical outlets) going out periodically.

A rigorous core scientific and clinical curriculum (the science)
A comprehensive clinical skill-building program (the art)
Opportunities to engage in complex clinical reasoning (medical decision-making)

I saw this on their website, which claims that all 3 are interrelated. Can someone explain this to me please? 😀 Thanks in advance.

are they still sending interview invites? I know I probably don't have shot here but was wondering if I should accept defeat now? I was complete 9/17

I was marked complete a week after you. Nothing here =/

Uh...they all apply to medicine? It seems interesting to me that this is presented as though it only happens at Yale, whereas the actually unique parts of their curriculum (observation skills development in museums, etc.) are buried.

So since Yale is not rolling admissions, does that mean that not having my app in yet will not affect me too poorly????

So, I JUST NOW received a link to Yale's secondary. I was complete a long time ago. Is there any point to submitting my application just days before the deadline? I know Yale isn't rolling, but still.

How did you get marked complete prior to submitting your secondary??
