My theory is that if the class is full, all the HPWL candidates would be a 'perfect fit' but can't be accepted cause there are no seats (the less then perfect fit candidates are regular waitlist). So when seats open there is no reason not to pull someone of the HPWL and wait for a more perfect candidate. Again, this is only my theory 🙂
 
So, then everyone now is interviewing for the HPWL at best?
My interview was scheduled back in January (or maybe December) for March. As was said by someone on SDN, "I don't want to interview for a high priority waitlist spot; I want to interview for a high priority acceptance."

Again, none of us really know what is happening behind the closed door of the admissions office. Nobody really wants to interview for a waitlist spot, but as we already are witnessing, there is movement in the HPWL. There is always risk of such situation when you interview late in the season though.
 
Agreed, it's all speculation. Sometimes it's enjoyable to speculate.
My only contention is that they should tell you if it's for a WL spot, if that's the case. But, as we have all experienced, full disclosure is not in the cards in this process.

No because that nullifies the entire advantage of applying early
 
I guess I had a different definition of "advantage of applying early."
For rolling schools, the sooner you were reviewed by the committee, the more interview spots and seats are available to you as an applicant. This "advantage" was just a byproduct of the sheer number of applicants to seats ratio, not some advantage that the schools intentionally created.

However, not everyone who interviews in February/March/April applied late. That was just when the admissions committee decided you were worthy of an interview based on their seance and ouija board readings.

I also understand that a school could fill up it's available number of acceptances prior interview season ending. It would be nice, if that was the case, that the schools would let you know that you are, in fact, interviewing for the WL.

To get back to my original point, it's curious to me that they would pull from a WL before having all available candidates for the WL. If I were on the admission committee, I would want to wait to see all the candidates on the WL before I started pulling from it. Obviously I'm not on the admissions committee and they are not following my logic. I was just curious if there was some other logical explanation, but I doubt we'll ever know what goes on.

i agree that it is puzzling they would dip into the waitlist so early. but maybe radiogoogoo sent some sort of update or letter of interest or got an additional letter of rec or something and that changed their mind. or maybe they were browsing through some applications on the hpwl and came upon his and, after lookin it over, suddenly realized MAYBE they made a mistake in not accepting him right away... maybe they thought "you know what, i think we might have messed up." im not sure if admissions committees ever do that- if they're a little too hasty in voting and send someone to the waitlist that maybe should have been outright accepted. as it's been mentioned a few times on this forum, a lot of the process comes down to luck. maybe the admissions committee was in a bad mood when they originally voted, cooled down, and came to their senses. i dont know, i like to tell myself that can happen. gives me hope of getting off some waitlists. either way, im really happy for this guy.

I like it. I didn't think of that at all. That definitely sounds logical. Let's go with that as the explanation. Mystery solved.

I did indeed send a long email after my waitlist notice. i talked about coming from a disadvantaged background, being a 1.5 gen immigrant, and being subjected to case-centered medical care in the country i was born in and my passion for patient-centered approach. i think i held back a little in my personal statement, and opening up more paid off. einstein seems to truly care about the person behind the resume. i am a girl btw 🙂

Out of curiosity- what's a 1.5 gen immigrant? Also, did you send a letter to the admissions office?
A friend of mine who is male also got off the HPWL yesterday so I don't think the theory of 'making a mistake' holds.

1st gen = Adult immigrated to America
1.5 gen = child immigrated to America
2nd gen = child of adult who immigrated


Another convention is used where the child of immigrants is considered first generation,and immigrants are just "immigrants".
 
are you at a disadvantage if you get your CSS and FAFSA forms in late? I'm still waiting on my parents and my final tax docs so I haven't been able to send them in yet

I was wondering did you apply to the Einstein Service and Research Scholarship before they sent you the acceptance? I'm currently on the HPWL and debating if I should apply to the scholarship. Thanks in advance!
 
Accepted off the HP waitlist yesterday 12pm. MCAT:33, GPA:3.99.

Anyone else study abroad and is nervous about the two week deadline they give you to get your background check in before they take back the acceptabce?

On a side note, how cruel is that.

My certification took just a few days, nothing close to 2 weeks so I wouldn't worry. I'm not sure if the process is any different for those studying abroad though (or why it should be).

Nice! Looks like HPWL is moving. Did you send updates or letters of interest post interview?

The person I contacted said it was alright to email the returns.
 
I'm interviewing in a week, but I'm assuming it's all wait list at this point
 
Waitlisted today :/ debating whether it's worth it to stay on. I really liked the school, but I also really like the school that's accepted me.
 
No mention of any priority so I guess regular. I interviewed January 14th.
 
Waitlisted today. Didn't say "high-priority", so that's a bit of a downer. How should I feel about this? I know HPWL has historically had good mobility, but do I have any chance on the regular waitlist?
 
I just finished reading the last few pages (everything past the January 15 acceptance). Has anyone received a straight acceptance since interviewing after January 15 ? Can you provide interview date and turnaround time. Did you right a letter of interest or handle your interview any in any special fashion ?
 
Also, does anyone have any idea of an approximation of the remaining seats available at the school ?
 
No more remaining seats; all acceptances are off the wait-list now. Sigh. Though there will probably be seats after 3/30

ALL schools have to give out acceptances at least equal to their class size, so at this point some people will release acceptances if they have multiple (i.e. they only keep their top choice).

I mean to be more elaborate, is there any way to check in remaining seats available or is that just an assumption you are making ?
 
does anyone know if we have to send a copy of our transcript to AE after accepting their offer?

The interview is not very structured, you will not be meeting anyone apart from your interviewer and your student tour guides so you do not have to be on edge the whole time, the downside is you won't be able to meet the dean or any other top dogs. There is no presentation or going over the curiculum so make sure you ask your interviewer questions you may have. I got asked two questions for the entirety if my 1 hour interview.
1. Why do you want to be a doctor
2. Can you talk about your research and why you went into that respective field
3. They asked if I had questions
for the most part very laid back and casual and you end up jumping from story to story, really enjoyed my experience interviewing there

Anybody know if the "Einstein at Home" event on March 27th is the only second look event that Einstein will be hosting? Seems kinda short for a second look (2 hours)?

I called the alumni office last week to ask about Einstein at Home. They said it was an event primarily aimed at people in the area and they couldn't say if it was the only second look.

I would love to see AECOM again, but can't fly somewhere for a 2 hour event. Anyone know if there is an official second look day?

As far as I am aware, there's no official second look day, but if a student was so inclined, I am more than certain the admissions office would help set up a day where you could come for a personalized second look and have a chance to meet and talk with students etc.
