2013-2014 Howard University Application Thread

Hey guys,

I am new to this thread as I haven't rea;y posted much. Today I got an interview invite and I am flying in March 25 and interviewing March 26 which I think it is their last interview day in March. Nevertheless, from the people that have already interviewed, what were your impression of the school and of the program over all? I am trying to see if it is really worth it to fly out there as I am low on money. I have already been accepted to a top tier medical school and another mid tier medical school and thus I am still debating. I have herds great things about Howard but I also have heard bad things so I really do not know what to do. I love DC and a friend who graduated Howard Med said she loved so I would really like to hear back from peeps who have interviewed. Howard gives me this good feeling no doubt. For those of you interested, my stats:

OOS: Miami, FL (Born in Colombia, raised in Portugal)
Undergrad sGPA: 3.34, GPA Overall:3.21
Grad GPA: MBA: 3.9, MPH: 3.85
Post-bac: 3.5, Hard Medical school core curriculum
MCAT: 26+
ECC: two publishings, tons of community service nationally and internationally

I really would love any feedback! thank you guys and keep hopeful.

kinda have similar stats to urs although no grad or post grad work under my belt. still praying for an interview at Howard though. just wanted to say that you should pray towards it. congrats on ur acceptances.
P.S: when were you complete?

ACCEPTED!! Just got off the phone with Ms. Walk. I'm so excited I can hardly believe it. And to preempt any further questions: Secondary complete 10/1, II 12/5, interviewed 1/8/14. Good luck everyone! Good things are happening!

Accepted!!! Guess they were affected by the weather. Anyway I interviewed sometime early January and received the "out of committee" letter end of January but then didn't hear back from them until today. Good luck to everyone.

Congrats Paul ! Its an incredible journey to med school. Just would like to know when you did MBA and MPH. And where you have done post-bac program from

My highest MCAT was a 27. My science gpa is a 3.47 and my cgpa is 3.32. I am also not a minority but come from a disadvantaged background. I was complete in late September and in my invite it explained that after a second review they decided to offer me an interview so there is hope for all of those still waiting. I wish you all luck 🙂

It was for march 11 or 12th i chose the 12th so only a week away
 
Does howard accept updates? i havent been able to find any info on this

Many of us have the same question, but it seems the phones don't work very well in the office. Same goes with the computers, because calls and emails frequently go unanswered.
 
I emailed an update a few weeks prior to my ii with my fall grades

I spoke with the financial aid counselor, I've been emailing back and forth with her because I'm a worry-wort, and she told me that as long as parts A and B are complete we are fine, part C isn't available yet. So as long as you got that email saying they received parts A and B you are fine. When I finally finish my FAFSA after taxes, I plan on emailing her back to see if that has any impact on me completing that part. But friends at HUCM tells me she's very thorough and I have nothing to worry about, we will have our money by the first week of school. For now I've just been looking for apartments 🙂 whoo hoo! Congrats to all the rest of my classmates, can't wait to meet you all.

Thanks man. I was complete on mid september! I think I will most likely not be able to attend the interview for financial reasons. Hope u guys get good news though!
 
Can anyone tell me what the M1 Schedule looks like?

Hi Sweetness34, my status says - ' interview not scheduled' - does this means I have received an interview invite ( but missed email) or it means they haven't sent interview invite yet

I don't think it changes. I've already interviewed and am waiting on a decision and mine still says "interview not scheduled"
 
Long time lurker... 🙂 first of all, wanted to congratulate everyone on their hard work thus far. It takes a dedicated individual to be in the position we have put ourselves in. HOPE should never quit!!

Secondly, wanted to share my timeline because seeing others' really helped to ease some anxiety.
Interview: 1/24
Out of committee letter: 3/6
Accepted: 3/10

Hey guys! Got my acceptance letter in the mail yesterday!!! It looks like my timeline is fairly similar to "Totbanks" so don't be discouraged if your dates are earlier, and you still have no word. Hope this helps!

Out of committee 2/11
Accepted 3/10

I just want to say that patience is truly a virtue and through GOD, anything is possible!!!!! Congradulations to those accepted and to those still waiting, there is still time! Howard interviews through April and acceptances are given out up until the first day of orientation. So there is still time!

Notification of II Jan 8th
Interview Jan 28th...

I have not recieved an out of committee email yet though....im praying thats not a bad thing since some people who interviewed the same day as me already have their decisions. Fingers crossed for all!

Seriously, my interview was relaxed and on orientation day, you just feel like a part of a big family.
