2013-2014 University of South Florida Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just to reinforce the sentiment, interview day here is the most laid-back interview day you'll ever have. USF is incredibly student-centered in all respects. I really enjoyed talking with my interviewers and in both cases, our chats were cut off due to time constraints. We could have talked for much longer and it was actually disappointing that we couldn't. I really felt like USF had a genuine interest in me. My advice for future interviewees is to channel any nerves into excitement.

I am hoping to stay with a student host for my interview next week but I haven't received any information about student hosting yet. The invitation email said it would be sent separately from SALG. Those of you who have interviewed here, when did you receive this information? I wonder if I should just call the admissions office and ask?
They usually send it last minute, but you can call anyways. I responded to my host invitation within an hour and they couldn't find me a host.

Best of luck!

I have an interview there next Saturday. Can anyone give me any insight as to how the agenda went? And who were your interviewers?

Is this a SELECT interview? I didn't know USF did Saturday interviews.
You will be told who your interviewers are that morning; I don't think name dropping on these threads is a good idea. As for the agenda-- it's a busy, smooth-running day. You'll get plenty of opportunities to view the facilities and talk to both faculty and students.

It's a CORE interview and they actually don't usually but I was able to get one due to some complications of my original interview date on the 28th. I'm pretty sure I might be the only one there though for that reason so I'm just scared as heck.

Gotchya. Don't be! They will make you feel very welcome, I promise.

Wow, they're really rolling out the red carpet for ya 😉

Mind sharing stats please? Super congrats though! :highfive:
USF is my top choice, and I don't quite understand why I haven't been offered a II yet. II me pretty please, USF! :xf:

Does anyone know how long it takes them to send acceptance packages? I'm dying for some physical proof after receiving the acceptance call last week. (hoping I didn't dream the call...hahah)

I think about a week.
If it has been two weeks, I would verify my address with them.

I think it took 8 or 9 days for me. But as @UCI said, if it is taking too long, give Ms. Kinsella a call. She's really nice and helpful 🙂.

Anyone know when the last day for interviews are? My friend just got an interview for Feb 25 for Core and I know they stop around March, but not sure when 🙁

Interviews actually continue until mid-May. I don't know if they have set a final interview date yet. There's still plenty of time!

Thats great to hear! Also heard that they have available seats until very end

However, according to the FAQ, I guess they stop sending out II's around March then, so we have ~2 months left :xf:

Edit: he was complete August, idk what his stats are or when he got it exactly.

I hear USF typically responds within a month of interviewing. Does that mean they give some response be it waitlist, acceptance, or rejection?

Does anyone know how much of a disadvantage it is to be interviewing this late? i.e. is there a chance that the seats will fill up by my interview date? (interviewing on 2|25)

Havik21, you should be just fine. They will probably have seats. I know when they start getting into march and april, you begin to compete for spots on the waitlist.

Does anyone know when they will start an FB group for accepted students? I am enthusiastic to figure out my living situation and get to know others that will be in my class.

On our day they told us we should expect to hear back within 1-4 weeks. The people who I have spoken with who received acceptances heard back within 7-10 days. Yes, you will get either an acceptance, wait-list, or rejection. Hope that helps!

Thanks! Hope to hear back soon. Been on pins and needles!

Interviewed 1/14. Received a snail mail letter yesterday saying I was waitlisted. 3.8. 35. OOS. Guess I didn't make too strong of an impression. 😵

When was your II? Thanks so much!

Sorry to hear that--any chance you can send an update or letter of continued interest? WL movement does happen, so don't give up hope!

Just got the call from Dr. Daniel! Accepted into the USF COM Class of 2018! Interviewed on 1/21. Secondary sent in 10/8. :soexcited:
Congratulations!!! I interviewed that day as well and I keep checking my phone lol:xf:

I'm sure we met on interview day or the Jason's Deli pre-interview dinner. I think based on my location/username it is easier for you to guess who I am than for me to guess you! 😉 Good luck!

I actually didn't go to the pre-interview dinner but I totally know who you are based off your username haha. Thanks! No news for me today...hopefully I get a call next Wednesday 🙂

My status page had been at "ready" to review since August. Since they don't accept updates pre-interview, I would think by this time they could have reviewed my application and let me know their decision either way.....the waiting is killing me and at least I could have closure :/

I think they are constantly re-reviewing applications. I interviewed just the other week but submitted my app in August as well. Clearly they had looked at my app before, passed, then revisited and decided to extend me an invitation. My point is the same can definitely happen to you! I don't believe USF sends out pre-interview rejections until the season is over in March. Don't give up hope! Good luck!!!

Congrats not only on your II but also on that impressive incline in your stats! Way to go 🙂

does anyone know what they're specifically planning on doing with the $40mil donation?

I see theyre planning on building a new building for the medical college. Is that supposed to happen anytime soon?

Aw, poo; WL letter received today. Interviewed 1/21.

Actually, every interview is for a spot, not a spot on the waitlist. Even the late ones. I visited this summer and asked this question of the admissions counselor that gave me my tour, Mr Houder.
He said they accepted someone who interviewed in April. She just fit in well with the school.

Also, when you find out about the facebook, can you let me know?! I'm dying to start figuring out things for next year like housing and whatnot... and to start making friends

Just to further add to this, multiple people have gotten into the school from late April and there is wait list movement because there always save spots until the end and not everyone will keep their spot.

I'm curious if they are already adding April dates and how far the interview scheduling is.

did anyone else get an email this morning with "additional program information" with details on the masters program? I feel like it can't be a good sign...

I got that email too..... Does that mean rejection? 🙁

Guys, I think you are reading too much into it, it's just a self-promotion.
