This is for core only I don't know much about select but it should be a similar pattern ... So from January until now core applicants interviewed on a Tuesday ... 8 days later on a Wednesday around 10am you would get a call if you were accepted ... If you didn't get a call you would probably receive a wait list letter in the mail Friday-Saturday ... Some people did get rejection emails around that time too ... Now some people haven't heard back a single word this is the group I suspect is going to be the first runner ups to fill in the remaining seats and the seats of those that got accepted but have decided to drop their acceptance.

For example I think April 15th interviewers should get a call on April 23rd if there's no call hope for a letter by April 26th if there's no letter check you email for a >.< rejection .... Phew if there's no email wait until May 1st every single medical school in the country has got to have accepted as many students as there are seats ... By May 5th these multiple acceptance students need to drop allllll acceptances except for one the med schools get busy again contacting the people on the wait list by priority ... So the sooner you hear the higher priority you were on the list .... All of this is out of my deduction I am not saying this is set in stone

I hope I helped

Anybody accepted off the wait list let us know!! I really want to know how fast it moves thxs!!!!

May 15th****

Just curious... has anyone from the 3/25 core interview been notified?

Just got home from work and found a letter from USF Admissions; the committee placed me on the wait list.

Did you also interview on 03/25?
I had my CORE interview 10/15 and was wait listed about 2 weeks later. USF was my only interview and (luckily!) my top choice from the beginning. Really hoping for some good wait list movement!

BundleofHis,

When did you interview? would you mind giving stats?

Can anyone give a summary of Second Look and their impressions of the school? I wasn't able to attend and wanted to know what others felt about the day.

It started off with a Meet-and-Greet on Thursday night, where we had some food/drinks and mingled for about 2 hours with incoming students and MS1s, some of whom were our student hosts. Overall, I thought everyone was incredibly friendly. Most people were obviously from Florida, but there were enough OOS students that I didn't feel like the odd person out. The MS1s seemed really excited to meet us, and while some 'mingling' events can be awkward everyone just jumped into discussions with others and, at least in my experience, got alone pretty well. I ended up going out with some other SELECT MS1s and prospectives at a German beer bar (Dunderbak's, which apparently is a popular place for students to hang out after exams and such), which was awesome, since I got to know that group of people much better than I did during the larger Meet-and-Greet.

Friday, we mingled a bit more in the morning (with more food - there was SO MUCH FOOD during these two days, and it was all really really good), then listened to intros by some of the Deans. We then drove down to Tampa General, where we got to see a bit of the hospital and have a Q&A session with current MS3s. To be honest I don't remember much of this part of the day, a lot of it didn't apply to SELECT students so I zoned out a bit. I do remember that the drive down was fairly long, and traffic was heavy, but that seemed to be something that people got used to during MS1-2, and that many MS3-4s moved down to South Tampa during those years to be closer to TGH.

Then we went back on the bus and had a brief tour of CAMLS (which was really cool, they showed us the simulation patients they use and what kinds of simulation testing students do) and lunch (which, of course, was delicious). Then we drove back to campus and took a bus tour of the undergrad part of campus, since many students use the gym/library/etc on that side. After that we had an informational session about financial aid (which I'd be happy to give more info about if anyone has specific questions), and each group (they split us into Core and SELECT) had another Q&A with students in those respective groups. We ended with a few hours in the courtyard going around to look at tables set up by various interest groups, and we got to talk to more MS1s about the school/housing/etc. (There was even more food, which we all ate even though I think we were completely stuffed at that point.)

TLDR; Everyone I met - current and prospective students, faculty/staff - were so nice and friendly and engaging. The MS1s were laid-back and much less stressed than I'd have imagined with final exams on the horizon, and they emphasized how much collaboration took place to ensure everyone succeeded. (Exams take place every 3 weeks, so I'm very thankful for a less competitive environment. Lectures are recorded - about 1/3 of the class goes to lecture - but everything else is mandatory.) I was surprised to find that a strong majority of prospective students were already committed to USF, or were planning on sending in their intent forms. Very few were on the fence, and those who were often were leaning heavily toward USF. Some students had roommates/housing already, others found roommates during the mingling, plenty others hadn't even started looking. I thought the campus was beautiful, and the buildings (on the medical campus at least) were new-looking and modern and clean. (And campus aesthetics is a big deal for me, so that's saying a lot.) I was fairly certain USF was my future med school before Thursday, and now my intent form is in an envelope ready to be mailed out first thing tomorrow morning. 🙂

Again, I'm happy to answer any specific questions (with hopfully a more succinct answer than this one) about fin. aid, classes, etc!

seeing as how second look has passed, does that mean the class is "full" for the time being and anyone who hasn't heard anything back is basically on the waitlist?

A friend of mine who interviewed in late March two application cycles ago got an acceptance call from USF on May 15th. I'm not sure how they hand out decisions from year to year, but she got positive news at the very last minute.

That's awesome! But that seems like your friend was wait listed and got in after (or on) May 15.

I'm sure by now they've extended acceptances to the number of seats available since AAMC traffic rules say schools should fill all their seats (extend acceptances) to the number of seats the school has.

I just really hope a lot of people go elsewhere and the wait list moves a lot so that we all get in haha.

I tried to convince them at second look not to come, although judging by starkidbee's post. I guess I didn't do a good enough job.

Haha thanks for the effort at least!

I am still in the group of applicants that hasn't been contacted about a decision for the majority of this spring term. According to last year's thread, the first USF CORE MD acceptance for a while came April 30th. Maybe this has to do with the aforementioned AAMC traffic rules? Regardless, good luck to everyone that hasn't heard back yet!

Just got waitlisted. Interviewed SELECT 4/14. Anyone know what the movement is like? Also, do you know if we can find out where abouts on the waitlist we are?

I don't know about SELECT but I know they told us they didn't reveal the rank for their CORE waitlist. Do you mind me asking how you were notified of the decision?

Good old snail mail. I'm not sure but I kind of remember them saying that we were able to find out which third we were in. But that also could've been my imagination lol

You can call and ask but I don't think the information is public.

Congratulations! And thanks for letting us know.
thanks, keep hope alive, they said that some people from the ad com were out of town and so they were backed up on informing students. good luck everyone 🙂

Thanks for letting us know! Hopefully the calls keep coming next week 🙂 good luck everybody .... Idk about ya'll but usf is my absolutely top choice n I really want to make it >.<

Is the high tuition for the select program worth it vs going to another state school like fsu, fau, ucf, or fiu and would select give any advantages over these programs? The usf match list is good but the select match list might be very different. The hospitals in Tampa are great but that doesn't matter for select since clinical years are in pennsylvania. Is lehigh valley comparable to the hospitals in Tampa? Will taking extra classes and having extra projects interfere with studying for step 1 and classes? Are select students more likely to pursue primary care? Thanks for any input.

I think a lot of us are curious how the match list will look like when it comes out. That will not be until next year though, so we'll have to see.

There are many advantages to the Lehigh hospitals compared to Tampa. I went there during second look and I was very impressed with the facilities there. In addition, there are less residents there so you have more one on one attention. LVHN are really excited to have their own medical students and the 3rd years there described the reception as excellent. I don't think the workload was excessive, especially in context of the pass/fail curriculum. I'm not sure about the primary care aspect of the program. I would hazard to say it might be less and is probably not an higher proportion than the CORE program. We'll see when the first match list comes out (although that's a small sample size, so it will probably be the next match after that to really define that.

Whether it's worth it? That's up to you at this point. There's nothing on paper yet that justifies the increased tuition costs. The only real reason the tuition is higher is the state would not provide funding for additional seats at USF. For me I applied as a Florida resident, but I had outside support and no other acceptances so it made the decision easy for me. Some Florida residents in the program have received scholarships to match the in-state tuition level so that might be something to inquire about and let them know your conflicting feelings regarding the program and the cost.

Anyone receive their financial aid information yet? If so, has it influenced your decision to matriculate at USF or elsewhere?

roughly how many days after the acceptance call did you get the letter in the mail?

I received the green folder with the acceptance letter about two weeks after the acceptance call from Dr. Daniel.

No sign of any financial aid, though.

I got my fin aid this Wednesday. I called them last week too and they said final fin aid should have been determined by this Friday (so today). Have you check OASIS? Financial aid information is outlined there. The financial aid letter is sent to your usf health email, btw, they do not mail it. Also, give them a call on Monday, you can find the number for financial aid advisor on the website, they are very nice and helpful. Good luck!

I never received an email, but my financial aid is up on OASIS, so be sure to check online even if nothing is in your inbox!

Any idea how many students make it onto the wait list for SELECT? Not knowing even what third we've been placed in makes planning extremely difficult.

I have a similar question to amick1029's. Does anyone know how many students are on the waiting list for CORE? Also, was anyone on the waiting list able to get feedback regarding their application and interview materials? Thanks!

In regards to sending updates for our application if we're waitlisted, should we send transcripts once our final grades are released?

It's May 15th, anyone from the wait list get a call?
