2013-2014 Yale University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I was complete on October 22nd, and I still haven't heard anything 🙁 Do I have no chance of getting an interview now??

My understanding is that schools are going slower this year, is that true?

~confused and hoping there are others in the same boat~
I have also heard that quite a few schools are running anywhere from 2-4 weeks "behind" since AMCAS had a verification delay throughout much of June, and that caused a lot of schools to receive applications at a much slower rate for much of the summer. I don't know if that applies to Yale, but it's certainly plausible. I don't think we're at the "no chance" phase. There's probably not many interviews left, realistically, but hey - one of them could be yours, if you want to be optimistic about it.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but how do we collectively feel about sending Yale post-interview updates?

I uploaded an update on the secondary site about one month ago, complete back in August or so, no word

Did anyone who interviewed already just get an email from Richard Silverman requesting a social security number? Or, maybe I should be asking, did anyone not get that email? I'm wondering if it's a good sign. Thanks!

I got it too. I'm pretty sure that's just sent to everyone who interviewed before Yale realized they needed to collect people's SSNs.

Yea, got it as well. I think they just want to have everyone's SSN so they can expedite the financial aid stuff once they're done the admissions decisions.

Didn't get it..interviewed in October. But I did put in randomly one day as I was browsing around a few months ago (maybe December?). Maybe they sent it to ppl who haven't provided it yet?

Big concern here. Yale Fin Aid is updated for 204-2015. Our information is due on March 17th, but per MSAR Yale notifies on March 15th. 48 hours notice? I already have my FASFA and Needs Access Done etc. but to have everything in that quickly is pretty intense.

You can submit everything earlier, no? On interview day, we were told that we can start applying if we have been invited to interview because they have already given us an ID type number.

On the interview day they tell you that you should complete everything before the admissions decision.

Edit: beaten by Wonderpig 🙂

While schools may have had delays processing via AMCAS, the interview period here at Yale hasn't been extended as far as I know.

Email asking for SSN doesn't mean more than what it is.

They told you that on the interview? My interview ran into my Fin Aid session lol. I am gonna call tomm.

Two things:

1. Has anyone gotten an II lately? Do we know if all the interview dates are filled?

2. If there's still hope...does anyone know if Yale is receptive to pre-interview LOI? I refuse to accept that it's too late for me since I would give a limb to attend! (I wouldn't include that in my LOI, don't worry.)

If you read the previous page of this thread:

On Dec 23rd someone said:
looked at the dates while filling out their surveys, looks like they are interviewing all the way until feb 21.

On Jan 9th someone said:
Yale interviews until mid-February, so I would imagine there are still a couple IIs left to send. And about 2 weeks ago, someone posted about getting an II and had dates to pick from starting on January 10.

On Jan 29th someone said:
Yale interviews until mid February. If they are still sending out invitations, the last ones should be done by the end of this week or early next.

I checked my secondary randomly today and saw a new tab titled "Decision." This is where I found the rejection message. I did not receive an email.

sorry to hear that. i checked mine and no status tab.

I think these are pre-interview rejections.

Where's my pre-interview rejection then? I thought they'd be finished interviewing by now, but I don't have the Decision tab the previous poster mentioned. You'd think they'd announce them en masse.

When I was there, they mentioned March 7 as the target date for decision notifications.

Interesting, I looked at past Yale threads and Yale released decisions on (earliest)

March 15 ,2011 at 1 PM.

Is there a reason to move the release dates earlier?

Here's a screenshot of the message for those who are curious:

Also received a pre-interview rejection decision. Guess Yale and I weren't meant to be!

Just to confirm- are these all pre interview?

Peer pressure? 😛 Other schools have mentioned that they were feeling the push to release earlier and earlier every year as well! But beyond these anecdotes, I don't know anything at all. Just sharing what I was told

I'm sorry for all those who received those preinterview decisions :| Wish you all the very best and I'm sure we'll see you 'round these forums in a few years as distinguished accomplished physicians!

Ahhh, Mid-March can't come any sooner! 18 days until March 15!!

Logged into my status page today to find a rejection, no email sent. Bummer.. good luck to those still alive!

Interesting. I also remember March 13th being the date they had mentioned. Did you interview recently?
Yeah, I heard March 13th as well. Though I won't complain if it's March 7th! BTW, love that story about the man and the lions (your avatar).

I'd hazard a guess that i'm among the most recent interviewees

Really! So if you're sure they said March 7th specifically for interviewee decision notifications then maybe they changed their timeline from when I (and maybe a few others here) interviewed in the fall. That'd be awesome!

Where's my pre-interview rejection then? I thought they'd be finished interviewing by now, but I don't have the Decision tab the previous poster mentioned. You'd think they'd announce them en masse.

+1! Waiting is killing me :nailbiting:

+2, I wish they'd just pull the band-aid off already! 😛

so just to update people who are looking for this decision tab:
- I posted Tuesday about my decision tab after ncognito did(it was the first time I had checked in a while so I don't know if that was the first day it was there)
- out of curiosity, I logged back into my app and now the decision tab is gone. I am assuming I am still rejected (totally fine with that), but also that maybe an official email will come eventually

Has anyone called the admissions office to ask if they have an update what date they are hoping to release decisions by?
