I just got my MCAT score back. 27 (8 PS,11 VR,8 BS). GPA 3.68c, 3.46s, above average ECs. IS

Think I got a chance?

The school's median MCAT is 29 (from MSAR) so yes you have a chance but I think the problem will be with those 8s. I guess your LSAT background helped you get 11 on VR

Also ED applicant here. Also second time applicant. Debated for a while about ED, but now I'm very happy I did.

Hi, does anyone know the % of accepted applicants that were out-of-state? My stats are exactly on their median. 3.7, 29 MCAT but I'm from ny.

Applied ED about a week ago...
In-State
3.93 Overall GPA, 3.94 BCPM GPA
MCAT: 31 (BS:11 PS:9 VR:11)

I feel like I could have more clinical experience hah.

Will definitely let you all know when I get my secondary app!

Goodluck guys

Just got a secondary here! :zip: Anyone know if they screen the primary applications?

i'm guessing a minimal screen since this is what is stated on the website:

"Most applicants from the pool of primary applications received from AMCAS will be invited by e-mail to submit a secondary application to the Florida State University College of Medicine."

Yea I read that as well but it was too vague of a statement to really know if they screen or not.
Thank you @blue14!

I called and talked. It sounds like if your numbers aren't terrible (the example used was like a 9 on the MCat and a 1.9 GPA) you will not be screened. They have not reveiwed the primaries, and they will be reviewing completed ED first. Probably should have applied ED here, but I wussed out.

Secondary Submitted. Looks like in years past there was around a 2 week turnaround if they liked you. Might be longer right now for us Early birds.

This is also an essay on the secondary

Write a critical analysis of your personal and scholastic qualifications for the study of medicine and the realization of your professional ambitions

Ya they go through ED people first, interview them and all that jazz. Like the website says, then we start getting interview invites starting September.

Got the secondary as well!!

I'm so happy to be doing ED. Waiting a month for MCAT scores sucked.. I could only imagine how waiting that long for your interview results must feel.

How are you guys writing your critical self-analysis? Should we be doing strengths and weaknesses?

I talked about how some of my experiences and personality traits make me a suitable candidate for medical school.

For you guys that got the secondary, are you all applying ED? Amcas verified 2 days ago and just waiting for secondary, wondering if they're out for regular decision applicants.

Submitted secondary today. Reapp after interviewing and getting wait listed/rejected last year. Hopefully a better outcome this year.

I am nowhere near 500 words on these essays. I keep getting ~250-300 and then I feel I've said everything that I need to. I hope that's not a problem 🙁

Same here. I would better make it short and to the point than annoy the adcom by making them sit there for hours reading through paragraphs after paragraphs. think about how many secondaries they have to go through. I think they will appreciate it being short.

Very true. Quality > Quantity. I doubt anyone wants to read fluff and filler. Thanks!!!

Everyone just keep in mind the secondary essays are designed to give them a better idea of who you are as a person and how you think. Don't focus on length, focus on quality and telling a story about who you are through your writing.
