..you are a UF student? Awesome! FSU medical school is really making great things happen!
Tallahassee UF student, AMCAS verified 7/25, 3.5 CGPA/ 3.33 SGPA 30 (11/9/10) MCAT. Hoping for a secondary.
Thanks Exline. Their essays seem a lot more fun to write than other secondaries lol
Also, my FSU secondary app was marked complete! 7/29 Submitted 7/27
I would call, they held mine up for 2 weeks because they thought I wouldn't take Biochem.ive had all my letters in for a month and submitted on 7/16....still not complete status 🙁
They verified mine 4 days after they received my secondary. Can anyone give insight on how long it takes them to process the letters of recommendations and update the status to received after it has been upload to AMCAS?
So i just got put under review and marked complete but one of my science letters isnt in yet... lol not sure what that means
They verified mine 4 days after they received my secondary.
By the way, does anyone know if we need to send a picture to them? Every other school seems to require one.

I would def call if it's been more than 2-3 weeks like the website states.
I called but they can't disclose any info over the phone. After emailing them they said to wait a bit longer and that the completion process (adding letters from AMCAS to your secondary app) is a manual process so it will take some time. they already have 2000 primaries designated to them!

They seem to be more interested in you than your view on current healthcare topics, etc. I have seen those types of questions on secondaries from other florida schools. ie. USF and UM.
I'm assuming this is per question, correct?
Not a bad sign!! Don't get discouraged, they have THOUSANDS of applicants. Patience and it will pay offSubmitted a week ago but no secondary 🙁 bad sign?
I think they prioritize it once you complete your secondary app.Did it really take you guys 2-3 weeks to get your letters of recommendation confirmed by the office?
Remember, quality > quantity. I didn't reach the 500 word mark for most of them.Just received the secondary. Having a difficult time getting anywhere close to 500 words with some of these prompts and don't want to fill my responses with fluff.

My letters were on AMCAS since 6/10...but they dont start adding the letters to your secondary app until you have submitted it (for me 7/16), so it takes 2-3 weeks from submission of your secondary for them to complete your app (for me 7/31)
500 totalHey guys,
So for the parents question in the secondary, how's the format? Do we get 500 characters for each subquestion? For example the describing their background? Do we get 500 characters to describe both mom and dad, or 500 for EACH?
Thanks
unusual question right?

Applying OOS here, 3.522 cGPA, heavy uptrend and 32 MCAT (11/10/11). Chance?
I hope you have a strong Florida connection. The secondary is free tho, so if you get it, fill it out. Basically to get in you need to live in Florida or have lived in Florida for a long period in your life, or have close family who live here. This school is not an OOS friendly one. But on the Bright side, with your stats, I think you will get plenty of interviews elsewhere!Applying OOS here, 3.522 cGPA, heavy uptrend and 32 MCAT (11/10/11). Chance?

I think if you have a genuine reason for wanting to be in Florida, that will really make or break your interview. I'm coming from an FSU undergrad and this is my second time applying after interviewing and staying on the waitlist until classes started. Im more familiar now with FSU's admissions process, and i think if you submit early enough they will have room still to consider OOS. It isn't that they only want someone with a Florida background, but they want someone who will fulfill their mission to help local and state need after graduation. Someone who saw the need for physicians in Florida, had some family down here, and planned on settling here would be just as good as an in state student. Thanks! I was looking at them on the MSAR and saw 33 MCAT at the top of their range, so I thought I'd be competitive even though they accept very few OOS. I also have 200 clinical volunteer hours, 40+ non-clinical, and started a fundraiser. So I'll send it there, fill out the secondary and see what happens! At least they only interviewed 9 OOS and accepted 5 so if you get an interview you have a solid shot and aren't wasting the $$ on it. I have some family in FL, but I'm from Nebraska. I should be strong for UNMC, but man winter 😢
Don't retake unless your average is at least 5 points higher than your previous score. I retook cause of a simular situation and my average was only a couple points higher than my prior score, i ended up with almost exactly the same score again, even tho it wasnt even in my "range" practice test wise (I had scored better on 6 straight aamc test, but somehow scored below that range on the retake. Its infuriating. With that in mind I think you should retake as long as practice are way up. Also I think you should add at least a few DO schools. As far as fsu goes they are really the only instate that a below 30 mcat has a decent shot at. So your not out. Thats all I got tho. I feel your pain with the MCAT, but just be careful that you dont make the 25 look like a trend, also some schools might not look at a september retake as it is getting kind of late.My primary just got verified a few days ago by AMCAS and I'm a regular applicant, so how long do you think I have to wait for a secondary? I want to try to get these filled out as soon as I can before school starts back up!
With that being said, I was wondering if anyone had some thought about my chances here. I am a FSU undergrad born and raised here in Tallahassee with my mom being a nurse here for 25+ years, and family being here for 40+ so I DEFINITELY have ties to say the least lol. One of my letters is coming from an MD from here in town who works with FSU residents at TMH. cGPA 3.7 sGPA 3.65 and fairly long list of ECs with leadership and 300+ hours of clinical shadowing and volunteering. My 1 draw back is my MCAT score at a 25 (7-PS, 9-VR, 9-BS). I'm trying not to beat myself up too much about it because I had a serious family event happen the week before I took it and just wasn't mentally ready for it, but that's life so what ya gonna do? Lol I'm retaking on September 12, and definitely feel like I can go up from there.
Any feedback?
