2014-2015 University of California - San Diego Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Waiting for someone else 🙂. I called a few weeks ago and heard the same thing @Agobio did, so I didn't want to bug them again.

Are others moving on and getting housing at their acceptance schools? I felt like I had to at this point.

I thought about this a lot and decided to move on with my acceptance schools. UCSD is great, but I didn't want to squeeze everything in at the last minute.

Yeah, we're all in a tricky situation here*. I have to start looking next week. My main problem is I'd like to get a 2 BR with another student (to save some $$), but being on a waitlist makes that very tough since I refuse to put a potential roommate in a crappy situation if I suddenly get an unexpected acceptance. My solution is, for now, to try and find an affordable 1BR. I can swallow the $$ for a cancelled lease/the move back if I got off the waitlist. I'm hoping to hear something, anything, so I can just move forward with my acceptance school. But the prospect of staying in CA for school near friends and family is just too great to let go of UCSD.

*It is awesome that we were accepted elsewhere and will be going to school in the fall. As a re-applicant myself, I do feel deeply for people who haven't been accepted anywhere yet.

I wish the cut or some waitlist movement would happen already so we could at least get a sense of what's going on.

As far as I know, there has been waitlist movement at UCSD this year, though it wasn't detected by people on SDN.

I am in the same situation with you. Given the very expensive tuition fee at the OOS school I am accepted, I'd rather not have my own place. I talked to a few of my prospective roommates (who are in-state and living around the school) about my waitlist(s). They understand and agreed that we should be looking for a place but won't sign anything until end of June or mid-July when I know more or have a better estimation of my chance on the waitlist.

Hmm, that's a good strategy that you have in regards to looking for a living situation. (I was looking for a 1BR today but all of them are either too far from the school for my liking or are just too expensive!).

I'm thinking about giving UCSD a ring sometime next week to see what's up with the waitlist, too.

I tried. They didn't tell me anything comforting and they couldn't say if the waitlist movement will be slow or fast in the next couple of months, because it is so unpredictable. They kinda suggested that 10-20% getting accepted from waitlist isn't that high of a chance and I should really prepare to go with my acceptance. :-(

That's pretty disappointing...I'm not saying the prepare to go to your alternate choice one, but rather the "next couple of months"

Update: I called earlier this week. They confirmed that there was some movement but that the class is currently full. They couldn't say if they expect more spots to open up at this point. But hey, at least the list has moved.

I'm gonna start looking for housing at my acceptance school.

Edit: One of my favorite bands (who basically NEVER tour in North America) is playing in San Diego this fall ---- and I can't go unless I get into UCSD. Oh cruel world!

So we all know there hasn't been a lot of waitlist movement. How about the cut/release? Anyone has any news?

I haven't heard anything. Sorry to hear they released some--this waitlist thing is, by far, the least fun game I've ever played.

They say everything can be replaced
Yet every distance is not near
So I remember every face
Of every man who put me here
I see my light come shining
From the west down to the east
Any day now, any day now
I shall be released
They say every man needs protection
They tell me every man must fall
But I swear I see my reflection
Somewhere so high above this wall
I see my light come shining
From the west down to the east
Any day now, any day now
I shall be released
Yonder down here in this lonely crowd
Is a man who swears he's not to blame
All day long I hear him cryin' out so loud
Cryin' out that he been framed
I see my light come shining
From the west down to the east
Any day now, oh any day now
I shall be released
I shall be released,
I shall be released
I shall be released,
I shall be released

Same here. My condolences to those who've been cut today.

I just withdrew my acceptance from UCSD two days ago..one more spot! Good luck to those on the WL!

Thanks for letting us know!

On a related note, I've heard from some people that UCSD's class is basically set (the students there are not holding multiple acceptances). The only way room will open up from here on out is if someone in the class withdraws because they got off a waitlist at another more preferred school. We'll see what happens.

For all you folks who have gotten interviews/acceptances, did you guys all take the MCAT once?

I took it twice. I still got an interview (bonus, I was a re-applicant to UCSD this cycle too!), but I was ultimately waitlisted - still am actually. I'll be moving to the other school I was accepted to this week since I'm not counting on an acceptance at this point. Either way, I am sure there are people who have been accepted here that've taken the test twice. I wouldn't sweat it too much.

Good luck!

I've been stalking this thread for a while now and it seems like barely anyone gets acceptances from UCSD after the October interview date. Do you any of you know any one getting accepted after being complete in mid-September? I'm a OOS non-URM and my primary application won't be complete until mid-August, but with the secondary screening process, the earliest I can be complete is mid-September. Please let me know how long it took for you guys to get your secondary apps and if being complete by mid-September is really detrimental. SDN seems to get a lot of mixed responses regarding application timing. Some make it sound like being complete after August is like a death sentence and I just want to know the fact.

Thanks everyone.
Primary submitted: last week before apps were due
Secondary received: couple weeks later
II: early February

I'm still on the wait list here and I just got an email from [email protected] with a "UCSD ELECTRONIC BILLING NOTICE" for registration fees due by Sept 18. Did anyone else who is still on the wait list get this email?
I'm trying not to overthink it because it's probably some glitch in their system... but that'd be so incredibly awesome to get accepted now hahha

Does anyone know if UCSD's grading system is Pass/Fail or Honors/Pass/Fail?

I'm still on the waitlist and didn't get that email.
Did you end up getting a call shortly after? That'd be awesome!

No I didn't end up getting a call, unfortunately. Turns out the fee was listed as $0.00 so I must have just gotten the email by accident.
