How long after submission did this take to change from secondary received to file complete?
One day! I'm IS and applied EDP, so those may be a factor, too.
How long after submission did this take to change from secondary received to file complete?
Where do I check the application status of my secondary? I submitted it today and can't find the status page.
I'm IS and have a 3.9 GPA and 31 MCAT, but I'm worried my volunteering isn't substantial enough to get in. I put down 100 service hours with a hospice on my app, but have only done about 20 and plan to do the rest before I graduate. Do they focus very heavily on volunteering? Or could my decent numbers and other involvement make up for it?? KU is my first choice, but I applied to other schools as well. Thanks!
I submitted the day after the secondary came out. Complete on 8/20.
So I guess a little over a month? Give or take. If you are not an IS applicant, I honestly wouldn't expect a complete notification too soon. I don't even think they will interview OOS until January.
When I went in for my interview I had around 60 hours of volunteering, some in the hospital but most with a hospice. I also put on my application that I was going to continue hospital volunteering until I graduated.
Honestly I couldn't tell you how much they actually weigh volunteering, but 20 is on the low side. Nonclinical isn't the biggest deal, but KU really does like to see that you donate your time for community service or clinical experience. They very much stressed a balanced application when I was applying (although they were more advocating shadowing), and I was asked about my volunteering a lot, but I think it's because I was also a hospice CNA, so it kinda flowed from that conversation topic. However, if your app is good on all the other aspects (shadowing, potential research, good ECs) and volunteering is the only weak point it'll be easier for you.
Definitely try to get some more hours before your interview (pretty good chance you'll get one being in-state) and be sure to mention that you've added hours to your interviewer, you certainly wouldn't want low volunteering to be the reason you can't get in, you know? Your stats are near what mine were (3.93, 33) and above those of a lot of my peers, so the numbers you have definitely won't be a problem.
Thanks for the help! I do have honors research, 50 hours of shadowing (including rural family practice, which I've heard they love) as well as leadership and other involvement. The hospice I volunteer with only has me visiting a patient once per week, so it is hard to get hours. If you have any other tips for the interview I'd love to hear them! I'm doing a mock interview pretty soon but I know I'll still be nervous for my KU interview if I get one.
How did you learn there are 136 early applicants?136 early applicants. I won't be interviewing early this year. Good time to explore other schools!
I think someone above said around 136 applied for early decision, so probably around 70?September 10 at 10:30!
Anyone know how many people they're interviewing?
3.6 GPA, 33 MCAT, lots of good shadowing and ECs. But realistically the thing that "sets me apart" is that I was dx'd with cancer in 2010 and had a bone marrow transplant at KU in 2011. So half my LORs are from KU docs.
Thanks! I'm excited for the interview, but definitely a bit nervous as well. Thanks for sharing and best of luck to you. Hope you get in!
Were you a part of ED?Interviewing in October. Here we go.
You get an email of your IIDid they email you or update your online status to notify you of the interview?
Don't, I was denied for ED as well, interviewed the first slot of interviews in mid-October like you. You got this far!Part of the pool, but did not interview early. Actually makes me feel awful about my chances.

Definitely not!Congrats to you too!! Is it too early for a Facebook group? Lol
I can see the page but it requres a KU email address. Is there a way to modify the group so that isn't the case? Got to get some Wichita State representation in there!

The link above works for everyone! Good luck to all as the next round of interviews approaches!
I'd recommend if you're not from the KC area spend the night at the Holiday Inn across the street. It's a very nice place and it was peaceful for me spending the night before hand looking out of my window at the school. Be yourself and relax too! You finally have the chance to simply talk to someone, face-to-face, about your dream 🙂 Bring your passion and energy and you'll do wonderfully. For those who have interviewed already any tips or heads up for those of us going on October 7?
