2014-2015 University of Kansas Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
The thing is my first interview went great and was very conversational and relaxed. My second interview was ok but was not horrible. So I do not think it was the interview either.
KU allows you to ask why you were rejected. It's not always fun to hear but it might help to know why for the future.

Welp.. That's disconcerting. I'm of the impression my interviews weren't very good... Sorry to hear about that Kja4kc. :/

I know this has probably already been asked and is different for everyone, but just trying to gain a general consensus of how long it took most (regular decision) to be invited for an interview follow submission of the supplemental application.

Also, is the invitation through e-mail?

For those of you worried about a low MCAT score, I got in the first time with a 23. Not from rural KS, didn't do the rural health program, and didn't come from a disadvantaged background. Don't beat yourself up about a lower MCAT score, KU looks at more than that... Obviously!

KC campus?

Still waiting to hear from my Oct. 9 interview. Anyone else? The mailman and I have never been closer.

Congratulations! We'll just have to see if I'll be joining you.

Looks to be about lower 3rd rejected, upper tenth accepted, everyone else on hold. Rinse/repeat in March.

How did people approach the secondary essay regarding discrimination? I'm having difficulty with it. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

I discussed something I've witnessed and it's affect on me. It can be hard if you've never personally felt seriously discriminated against. It's also difficult because you don't want it to feel forced. It took me time to figure it out. I'm sure you will.

Regarding the photo we need to bring to the interview: did you print your own on photo-quality paper or do something else (like Walgreen's photo)? Just curious. 🙂

Just decent quality but preferably something in a suit jacket and a non-distracting background

I used Walgreen's; they charge 99 cents for a strip of 4 wallet size pictures. I put one in my wallet, one in my purse, and two in my portfolio--just in case!

Thanks everyone! That's a great idea of having a few extras, fitzie. Walgreen's it is. 🙂

That one was hard for me too, but I talked about traveling to another country and being judged for not speaking their language well. Any instance where you felt like an outsider or different from everyone else could work!

I could have talked about how I got the stink eye for wearing shorts when I studied in Spain for a semester.... Weirdest thing ever that a whole population essentially doesn't wear shorts outside of the gym

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I submitted my application, and I am hoping I get an interview. Now I have to play the waiting game. Good luck everyone who is waiting for interviews or acceptances.

So if I am reading this correctly, no one else besides the first interview day has gotten a letter? Wow..

IIRC they said they would be mailing letters last Friday for those of us who interviewed in Wichita. I was certain we'd hear something today, but nothing in the mailbox except bills. I hope we hear soon, this wait is wreaking havoc on my obsessive tendencies.

Good luck! I hope you get the good news before Thanksgiving. 😀

Got the letter today, I'm deferred until March. 30 MCAT, 3.46 sGPA 3.43 cGPA (had some bad grades when I was younger, serious upward trajectory), Non-traditional, Kansas resident. Good luck to the rest of you, hope you get some good news today.

Thats better than a rejection, or as my case no interview yet. Keep your head up there may be good news in March 🙂 Good luck all!

Geez, this place is dead. Is everyone getting deferred or what?

Anyone know if admissions will accept updates post interview? I've done a few note worthy things this semester and I feel like they might play a factor come March.

I haven't heard jack diddly squat from them yet and I was supposed to hear about the same time :/

Without a doubt, the waiting game is the worst part of this process.

Anybody have a realistic estimate as to how many actually get accepted in March? I know of very few people who have gotten in so far, I'm thinking they don't accept as many up front as I originally thought.

It's also possible that some people who have been accepted haven't said anything and then there are those who aren't on SDN. Regardless I think you're right in that they don't accept a significant amount upfront

Well I interviewed almost 2 months ago and still haven't heard anything. What do you guys think that means?
