2014-2015 University of Kansas Application Thread

I was rejected post interview a little over a week ago (3.8 sGPA, 28, OOS with close KS ties) and I can't stop thinking about what I did wrong in my interview. 🙁 Is there any way I can contact the admissions and ask about how I can improve my application other than the obvious (low MCAT)?

I don't think the MCAT is an issue as you have fairly decent stats and there have been accepted students with mcats less than 28. I think you can contact admissions once the cycle ends to get feedback on your application. Good luck!

Without a doubt, the waiting game is the worst part of this process.

Anybody have a realistic estimate as to how many actually get accepted in March? I know of very few people who have gotten in so far, I'm thinking they don't accept as many up front as I originally thought.

They said they will accept a total of 230 for 211 seats. They will also have a waitlist.

A third rejected brings the pool down to about 380 people. That makes it about a 55-60% chance of acceptance if you weren't straight rejected.

Starting to get anxious about checking my mail! Anyone heard back yet from interview dates on November 12, 13, 14?

Not yet! I'm tempted to call and ask what the status is since we were told we'd get the letters by late last week/early this week.

anyone else get an email about decision letters not coming till next week due to a delay in the system?

I personally never received an email saying that. I sure hope that is not the case. Anyone else?

Looking through this thread it appears that I'm the only one that has heard back about my decision (REJECTED) before Thanksgiving... ouch... It's killing me trying to figure out what I did so wrong...🙁

I know it can be hard but keep your head up and stay confident, this is a looooong process. Try not to worry about the past but rather focus on what you can do to get yourself another interview (and ultimately an acceptance) somewhere!

Sigghhhh complete 10/9 and not a peep. Kansas ties which I was told is between IS and OOS

II on 12/10! The interview is Jan 6.

So excited! Anyone have any feedback on how interviews have been going at the KC campus?

Hey now. It hurts, but take the gut check as a good opportunity to assess your weaknesses and come out stronger.

You can do it.

My bet is letters from November 12-14 come tomorrow (Monday). I heard they were finalizing them on Friday.

Did the e-mail you your rejection or send it via snail mail?

Just got the letter!! Accepted for the enter class of 2015!!!

I'm so pumped. Rejected post interview last cycle, picked up more volunteering and a clinical job, then reapplied this year!
Awesome, was rooting for you after last year.

Sorry, I'm sure this has been asked on this thread before...but what is the range of time for finding out whether or not you got an interview for IS? My file was marked as complete November 12th.

There is really no timeline as to how long after you submit until when they offer and interview. But interviews go through February so you still have time!

I was complete on 11/5 and I received my II on 12/10. If that helps you get a timeline at all, hope it helps.

Congratulations to you!!
Would you mind telling me what type of clinical experience you gained and how much volunteer work you did? Also, what type of volunteer work? In addition, what are your numbers?

I was rejected post-interview and am hoping to get accepted next year. Any insight would be helpful and appreciated.

Thanks

I picked up a position as a medical assistant in a doctors office. That allowed me to pick up some patient and healthcare experience that the adcom loves to see. As for volunteering I just picked up some more shifts in the ER at a local hospital near by.

The medical assistant clinical experience helped tremendously in the interview as it served as a good talking point.

Don't let that rejection get you down. It seems harder and harder to get in first time around.

My GPA was a 3.9 with a 30 MCAT.

Besides the picture you have to bring to give to them, did anyone seem to need to bring (suggest to bring) anything else to interview day? I have my interview 1/6/15.

Not really needed. They will give you a folder with some information in it.

The less you bring the better. You have to carry everything with you or leave it in the main room when you leave for interviews so I'd bring only what you need.

Just got an interview (1/29)! Super excited. For those that are wondering, I'm technically OOS but I grew up in KCMO 30 minutes away from Kansas and am now currently living in KS working for a non-profit at KUMed.

SO PUMPED. Any specific advice anyone wants to recommend (not the obvious "be yourself")? Or anyone else interviewing that day?

How long did you wait between submitting your secondary app and receiving your interview?

Did any oos receive interview invitation.

Thanks

@LuckyDoc91 and @j306c954 I submitted my secondary on 8/18 and was complete 8/22 so it's been a long time to wait. But since I'm OOS, it was expected. They said they don't start interviewing OOS applicants until January.

You might think "be yourself" is obvious but, unfortunately, it's not.

Don't go in there expecting anything. Just use your brain and think about what you're being asked.

So online it says that most nonresidents who are invited to interview will do so in late January or early February. Has anyone who is OOS with no ties to Kansas, received an II yet? And does anyone know how long their interview season lasts until?

May be they will send them late today?

Hey guys! They send them out approximately three weeks before your interview. So for the February 11th interview you should hear next Wednesday. I received mine 3 weeks in advance!

Please did anyone receive an invitation for feb 11-13

I interviewed the week of December 9th and I still haven't heard back. I am a little concerned that you haven't heard back it shouldn't take this long.
