Sooo I am kind of late to the party.. if I had my transcripts sent now and started the application process today, would that be too late for Texas schools?

Also, I am OOS

I wouldn't say you're completely late but you aren't doing yourself any favors. Texas schools get things done much sooner than other schools. How are your stats

Yeah I was not thinking this through.


MCAT 36, GPA= 3.82
 
Stats: GPA 3.7, MCAT 31, Decent ECs, and LORs, Research experience (one publication). Application transmitted early June.

Besides the verification emails, I haven't heard anything else from my schools. I'm a little scared I might not hear anything since people after me are already getting IIs.

Suggestions? Advice?

Definitely get your app in as soon as possible. If you get it in by the end of this month it should be processed before September and there will still be invites still available. The problem with Texas schools is they have to accept at least 90% IS students, so you're competing for a very limited amount of seats

My application was transmitted on 7/06 but I never got any emails from here. I called and I was told its been sent for review. Has anyone gotten an II without getting a confirmation email?

The social doesn't have any impact on acceptance. It's just a casual get-together to let you meet other applicants and talk to current students without have any admin around 🙂
 
My TMDSAS application for transmitted on July 25, but I still have not received a conformation email. Anyone else with a similar situation?

I am, transmitted on July 11th and still have not heard anything. This is the only school I have not received confrontation from.
 
II on 7/28! I'm from Texas, do most people just drive to this school? Finding transportation from HOU to UTMB really expensive and crappy.

I'm tryingto make it. I don't think it will affect your acceptance. I think it's just an opportunity for you to meet people and relax and ask some questions of some of the students. You will be fine. You cannot be two places at once so you just have to be present when you can. Most important (obviously) is the interview day.
 
Received an II on Thursday (8/7). TMDSAS verified on 7/17. One quick question, do we have to accept our interview invite immediately? They date they assigned, 9/26, may pose a potential time conflict, and I am not certain if I will be able to make it for personal reasons. On the email they sent, it said that as long as you send in an email confirming your attendance at least 2 weeks prior you will be ok...but I feel like this might put them off. Suggestions??

Try to make it work if at all possible. If you cannot make the date work call them with a good excuse and ASAP. They will give you another interview but it may be very late in the cycle as the school takes it as an indication that they are not your number 1.

Decent stats, 3.62/38 IS

What did I do wrong?

Could your stats be too high for Galveston, Houston, Lubbock, etc.? Maybe they feel you're using them as safeties?

It's still early August. I didn't even receive an II to El Paso until after I already prematched (at that point, I had forgotten I had even applied there).

There's nothing to be worried about at this point. It's easy saying it from the other side of the process, but all I can preach is patience 🙂

I am guessing it is the fact that they got online and saw your profile pic was of Dirk.... I must say I can't really blame them.... just messing, you will be golden and will get interviews. I live in Lubbock and have heard from many students that they do a very heavy front end interview cycle of OOS and minorities before they move onto everyone else. Just chillax, we will all get into a good school and they all lead to the same degree.
 
Got an II on 8/7 for 9/19! Its my first II, now if only the other UTs would show me some love lol

Although your GPA is slightly low, I'm sure you have a lot of things in your application to make you a well-rounded applicant. Also, it seems like they are giving out II's to people whose applications were transmitted in early to mid July so I wouldn't worry just yet. It's just a waiting game.

My app was transmitted 6/20 and UTMB is the only Texas school I haven't heard from yet, like a confirmation email. But I did take the MCAT in June so my scores were released mid-July. I just got confirmation from Houston ~5 days ago... Hoping to hear something soon...

We have identical GPAs. Honestly, I don't hold too much hope for UTMB either. It seems like they are a high GPA kind of place and are willing to forgive a little lower MCAT. Thats just the impression I got based on people matriculating there and MSAR. I, probably like you, have the opposite stats (high MCAT, low GPA). So yeah don't expect a II unless you are a URM or significantly disadvantaged. Sigh, Just hope that other schools will take a chance on applicants like us 🙁
 
I just got my interview for 10/03, my complete app was transmitted 7/30/14. No confirmation just an interview day. Good luck everyone

As many have said the school seems to favor high GPA over high MCAT (especially if you look at the stats for II's from previous years). That would be my guess.

Also, awesome job on that MCAT score! 🙂
 
Any input on those of you who have had interviews here already? How were they / any crazy questions?
 
For current students or anyone that has more knowledge that I do-Where would you say the better clinical learning environment is, the Austin or Galveston clinical locations?

Yesterday an interviewer asked a girl to have a conversation with herself from the point of view from her best friend so he could get to know the interviewee that way...not a joke. But everyone else seemed to have relaxed interviews haha
 
I just interviewed here a few days ago. Most of the other students had relatively relaxed and easy interviews, but I happened to get a stress interview. BE PREPARED.

General Question:

I got my first II on back on 7/28 for UTMB on 9/5. Much earlier than I expected and I can't wait! However, I sent in all TMDSAS material the first week of June, with all other Texas secondaries by the end of June/early July and haven't heard back elsewhere. Any possible reason why only UTMB and no other schools yet? Does this mean the other schools passed up my application...or is it still under review?

GPA: 4.0c/s
MCAT: 29- 11s on PS & BS, 7 on VR

I heard back from UTMB well before all the other schools, so I think UTMB just does things faster in terms of sending out II's. Best of luck on your interview!

Definitely do not worry about it. You will keep getting interviews to Texas schools all the way through january. I got texas tech el paso first week of july, and did not get A&M until today. It's a random process, and you'll drive yourself crazy if you worry about it day-by-day. Most of your II's will likely come in september and later!

Application complete 8/1/14 (OUT OF STATE). 3.65 cGPA, 3.45 sGPA, 31 MCAT (10/11/10). Do I have any chance to receive an interview invite?
 
can anyone shed some light on why other threads discuss schools such as UTMB and TT Lubbock to be in the "lower tier" of texas schools (though still great schools) when they have board scores of 130 and 132/pass rates of around 98-99% .... What am I missing, in what way are they lower tier?
