2015-2016 Temple University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
"The clerkships in Years 3 and 4 are now discipline-based, similar to the previous curriculum, but there are some modifications."

Silly question, but what do they mean by this? Just that rotations are arranged like: IM, Psych, Surgery, etc?

I checked the website, and I think you pulled this quote from the curriculum overview page? If so, the "changes" that write-up refers to are almost 10 years old at this point, and the clinical rotation changes were not significant even then. I think they moved one rotation from 3rd to 4th year (or maybe the other way around) back then, but that's about it. The exact rotations we do are listed somewhere on the website, but they're pretty standard from what I saw on the application trail last year.

From past years it looks like interviews didn't go out until about the third week of August. However, it also looks like the secondary was sent out earlier last year too. Any thoughts on this, or when IIs might be going out?

Are clerkships still available in Pittsburgh?

Yes, what we've been told is that you can do individual rotations in Pittsburgh, but they are no longer a clinical campus (i.e., you'd be there for one rotation, rather than moving for the entirety of your clinical years).

Well
There goes my second to last secondary...
I have no idea if I answered those questions adequately asking the "Why"s, but I tried my best.
Best of luck to all of us!

I'm assuming this is only available to students at Temple for the 3rd and 4th years, as opposed to Geisenger or St. Luke's?

I think that's true for the 3rd year, but I believe that St. Luke's/Geisinger students are allowed to take at least some of their 4th year elective rotations at other Temple affiliates.

Is there any status after "Under Review"? or it is just II from there?
I would assume you are "Under Review" unless you are "Invited for Interview." Perhaps there is also a "Hold for Later Review," but I think a lot of schools just say "Under Review" until a definitive decision is made, although I do not know about Temple particularly.

"Verified" aka under review; sent it off 8/19
There are two different statuses. There is a verified that says your app is under review and then there is an under review that means your app is under review. My app switched between the two within two days.
Not meaning to be a Debby Downer. Just didn't know if people had seen that apparently there is a difference between the two.

Ah, yea I read through the thread and saw what you mean. There are so many status changes/titles and updates between all of these schools lol

Keeping my fingers crossed. I really like this school..

I have a minor IA (alcohol) will this be a kiss of death from temple?

Alcohol violation in a dorm - thoughts?

I honestly wouldn't mention this unless it was a really big deal at your school and is somehow on your records or something? I honestly think you should be fine though if it's anything like at my school and people just have to take a class and it gets erased from their records as if nothing happened.

As others have said, just be sure to know if it will show up somewhere that adcoms will see. You just don't want to look like you're trying to hide it. We were all young and stupid once too, so the act itself won't look bad I wouldn't think.

Tell them. Be very contrite and explain why you now know what you did was wrong. Hopefully this was freshman year, when lots of people do stupid things. If you omit this and it comes to light, you will have nixed your chance with Temple.

Did you list this on your primary app when it asked for IAs?

Do you guys think campus choice/preference can affect admission decision? The seats are limited for the two satellite campuses but many might not find them desirable so I was thinking picking one as the top preference might work in some way to cause an applicant to be viewed as more favorable. Thoughts?
