2015-2016 University of California - San Diego Application Thread

Waitlisted! Oh well, I imagine they've sent out all their preliminary acceptances already and are waiting for May to move the waitlist around (not getting my hopes up though). On to the next one then!

Hi Everyone:

-Were all interviewees who were not accepted put on the waitlist, or were some rejected?

-Does anyone have any insight into how much waitlist movement there typically is?

Thank you-- was put on waitlist today.

Some are indeed rejected. I've read on here that most people say that 1/3 of people are accepted, 1/6 are rejected, and 1/2 are waitlisted post-interview. I don't know if there are any real statistics/citations for those numbers though to be frank.

The UCSD website says that around 30-50 acceptances will be extended to people on the waitlist. That's a puny number when you consider both the # of people on the waitlist as well as the fact that not all of those 30-50 people are actually going to choose to accept the offer/matriculate at UCSD.

Does anyone know how much it matters when you interview? i.e. do they accept generally the same number of applicants per interview date

Does anybody with an acceptance know when we will receive or where to find our UCSD ID#?

Also, my applicant portal is showing the date the decision letter was sent & two PDFs including a financial aid application (but it looks like they accidentally uploaded last year's)

has anyone here gotten an II with a complete date in October or after?

No they haven't yet. It actually surprises me because it seems like last year, they were pretty on time. I expect to hear about it today or early next week.

Someone posted in this thread earlier that they got an II a couple of weeks after being put on hold. It was sometime in mid to late December if I recall correctly.

Yeah, but the hold email said that ALL applicants placed on hold would be notified of the decision on their application by the end of January.

I'm gonna assume I'll be getting a rejection soon because I've gotten no news so far.

Anybody see on their portal an option to schedule a 'Free Clinic Tour'? Literally just came back from interviewing here and this button did not exist earlier this week. The Tour is offered in late Feb. Would have been cool if it was offered while I was in San Diego - not flying back all the way across the country.

The hold email said all applicants would be re-reviewed by late January but didn't say anything about being notified. I checked their admissions website and it says applicants that are placed on hold but not invited to interview will be notified typically by mid-March.

Whoops, minor oversight. Thanks for pointing that out Dr. Toboggan--by the way are you still practicing out of Philadelphia these days?

Any portal updates? No email here but nothing on portal either...

I was placed on hold in December but never saw the status change reflected on my portal. Anyone else in this situation?

Rejected pre-II yesterday after being placed on hold in December.

For people placed on hold for an II who are still waiting to hear back:

"Throughout the application season, candidates that were originally placed "on hold" may be invited to interview at UCSD. Interview scheduling typically runs through the end of March each year. Applicants who are originally placed "on hold" but ultimately not invited to interview will be notified by e-mail that they are no longer under consideration. This notification will typically occur in mid-March."

I just got an email saying all interview spots are currently full...so those who have not been rejected yet but are still on hold must hope that someone with an interview withdraws.

Gotta give it to them for being transparent about everything

Not a lot of acceptances recently. Yikes.

Two questions:

1) Does anyone know whether or not UCSD factors in multiple acceptances when it comes to offering scholarships? This webpage says that they don't give out financial packages until July/August, so it seems that the answer is "no" (since "recruiting scholarships" would need to come before April 30th). Unless the merit scholarships are offered before financial aid packages?

2) Sometimes schools are able to give an earlier financial aid award (or at least, an estimate) if you are deciding between schools and explain to them that money is a big factor. Have any current students had experience with this? I'll also give the office a call when I have a chance but I figured I'd post here too.

Also wondering about #2! Can a current student please answer?
