2015-2016 University of Chicago (Pritzker) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I called them when my LORs were taking a while and she said, "well we do them all in the order they're received by hand.... but just give me your amcas ID and I'll upload yours". By the time I got off the phone, finished up my experiment, and checked, they were uploaded.

Please don't take this as a sign to call the school and badger them to get your letters marked. Again, they will get marked. Yes, it will take some time. No, it won't matter from a decision perspective. The staff has enough to do, and people calling every 5 minutes to ask if their letters have been received will only add to that workload.

What's a cockroach?

Ok, kidding...but seriously, never seen one back here.

Did you get notified that you were put on hold?

No, actually, just an update on my portal under the app status. I dunno if Pritzker typically emails about hold statuses or not...

Hmm how long did it take you to be marked complete?
And best of luck with the hold! :O

It took me about two weeks to be marked complete. Thanks for the well wishes! I hope you hear good news soon 🙂

Holllaaaaa~ LoRs finally downloaded!! I suppose I can expect to hear back within the next few days since they seem to have a pretty quick turnover? :O

Secondary submitted 7/18
Marked complete today (7/30) so 12 days

I think their turnover is beginning to take longer, which is understandable as the cycle picks up. 😉

ahhh just got a II!!! was complete 7/20 or 7/21 so it definitely does look like it might be taking longer...good luck to everyone!!
Congrats! Hoping to hear in the next couple of weeks since I was complete around the same time

omgg this wait is killing me.... how am i not rejected yet - definitely don't have the stats to get in?! hahah I was complete 7/9 and no updates.....

Maybe I won't hear in the next couple weeks then 🙁. Eh it's still early

Eep! This is when I was marked complete. I feel an answer coming any day now :\

Also, congratulations!!

Ahh sorry, I checked my history again and realized I was wrong about what it meant to be complete. On 7/20 to 7/21, the "recs" part of my application was filled in blue but my application was actually marked complete 7/14!! So it seems like they definitely took a while to get through my application, so don't worry if you haven't heard back yet!!

Rejected today. Submitted 07/10. LizzyM~76.
Amazing school, good luck to everyone else.

Sorry to hear as well. I still can't figure out what criteria schools use to offer II. I got rejected at another school and the II were for LizzyM scores lower than me. Here I am the one with a lower LizzyM than you and got an II. Good luck to you.

There is more to applications than LizzyM scores. I was not a good fit and I am glad that Chicago made the decision so fast. It is good to know early.
And congratulations on your II! I am sure you have amazing things in your background that stood out. I hope your interview goes great and you get in!

@Gambateru, I'm sorry to hear that. I'm wondering if it had to do with your GPA? I agree there is WAY more to it than LizzyM. But your GPA is near chicago's 10th percentile? I would think that wouldn't matter when your MCAT is a 39 though (props). I wonder if even though your LizzyM was higher than @UCGal2016, perhaps her GPA and MCAT were both in their range. I have no idea, just throwing it out there. But obviously like you said there's way more to it like EC's, how you match up with the school, etc.

Both of you guys are great applicants though. Good luck🙂

Just a heads up to anyone applying MSTP - they uploaded my letters incorrectly (only three, not all of them were from faculty familiar with my research, nor were they the ones I indicated were submitting on my behalf on the Secondary). I don't know if this happened to anyone else, but I would check under "My Recs" to make sure the names are correct.

Huh, I just checked and that happened to me too. Think it's worth letting them know even if I was already put on hold? They're missing the letter from my undergrad research advisor (arguably the most important one).

I'm not sure, maybe? It's up to you.

I've been bothered by this problem for the past couple of days too. Does the portal only list 3 letters max? Can we safely assume that they have the extra letters on file but won't list them on the portal?

So when I called the office, they said that the woman who manual uploads the letter will choose three of however many you send. (*Note, this only applies to MD admissions) If you are MSTP, the rules are a little different. You should be allowed to send in up to six letters and designate on the MSTP specific section which faculty are writing with knowledge of your research.

Thanks for the info. It's weird because Pritzker's website said that the min is 3 letters and there's no max (for MD applicants). I checked several times to make sure my eyes weren't deceiving me. 😵
I'll try calling next week if things aren't resolved by then. Just didn't want to bother them unnecessarily.
