How does campus selection work? I would only be interested in one of the satellite campuses, not Kansas City.

Hi there!
Entering M1 for KU here.
Campus selection works that in Mid-March/Early April you review your campus selection preferences from your Secondary Application. They will then try to match up students to their first option. If there are not enough spots filled in a certain campus they will lottery students from the overfilled campus to that campus. After that, when different students drop out and they start using the wait list, they give the lottery students an option to return to their original preference.
Hope this helps!

Hi Everyone,

Does anyone know if July 18th MCAT is still an acceptable date for Early Decision, all I saw that the deadline was mid-July. If anyone knows, I appreciate the help!

Thanks

Yeah that will work

Does KU have any secondaries out yet? I'm not anxious or anything 🙂

If I'm not mistaken (and I could be so take this with a grain of salt), MD schools don't receive apps until the first week of July.

You're correct. I've been reading in other threads that July 1st is the first day anyone can receive secondaries this year.

I guess EDP gets verified super fast. I submitted primary today and it was verified in 20 mins! Good luck to everyone this year at KU. Does anyone know about how many EDP applications they receive on average and how many get interviewed? This is my first time applying EDP. Last year I was Reg.

Does anyone know if KU has sent out the secondaries yet

Applying EDP, got my secondary today!!! I asked them about the acceptance rate for the program and of the 211 that applied last year 52 were accepted.

Hello everyone!

Just received a secondary about an hour ago!

Received a secondary. 1.3 percent acceptance for OOS. well then. not sure what made me apply here in the first place. last year's thread made it sound more OOS friendly

Where did you get 1.3?
Fr what I saw it was closer to 10 times that OOS acceptance (still low)

Last year it was an 11.4% acceptance rate for OOS but I don't know if there's data available for EDP OOS acceptance rates

i got an email from the university saying that the secondary is available. In that they told me that since i am an OOS, i should be aware of the fact that for the entering class of 2015, 3000 OOS applied, 140 were interviewed and 40 were accepted. Acceptance comes out to 1.3 while interviewed OOS comes out to 4.6. Overall 3300 applied for 211 seats. 3000 were NON RESIDENT applications. Don't know if that is correct or not, but thats what the email said.

From the school's admissions website:
"Kansas resident applicants and applicants who have very strong Kansas ties are the first to be reviewed and considered for interview."
Keep in mind that some of those OOS acceptances likely have "very strong KS ties." I'm hoping they do give some consideration to those ties, or I would not be applying OOS, personally.

guys, should i not even bother with the secondary as oos with 28 mcat?
im from CA and don't have a tie to KS...

Glad people are getting secondaries! Would anyone be able to send them to the OP/post them to the thread? Thanks!

there are other demographic questions etc ofcourse, but the secondary essay questions are as follows:

To be honest, KU is a state school. They accept students they expect to graduate then practice in the state of Kansas. If you are out-of-state, no ties, and slightly weak in some area of the application I would consider spending more time applying elsewhere. That is simply not where KU's priorities lie. The reason that some of their stats are a little on the lower end is due to in-state students. They would almost prefer a Kansas resident with a below average MCAT than an OOS with a stellar MCAT (or other part of application).

Good Luck everyone!!! Just submitted my secondary for the EDP! Hope to see you all in September at the interviews!!

Considering applying here.

I live in NE and have no ties to Ks. What are the chances of me getting in? 3.5GPA, 28MCAT, plenty of EC in both leadership and clinical exp. (1000+ hours). is Ks friendly to NE or other applicants from the Midwest? anybody know?

From what I understand after talking to family friends who have been on the acceptance committee, a little over 90% of the students accepted are in state residents. Last years stats listed on the KUMC website say that there were 3,000 non-resident applicants, approximately 140 were interviewed, 40 accepted, and 20 matriculated. Take from that what you will, but I would say coming in from out of state is gonna be difficult especially with a GPA lower than their average and and MCAT lower than their average.

Hello all! Re-applicant here.

I applied last year and did not get in, which I assumed was primarily due to my low MCAT score. I scheduled a phone conference with Dean McCurdy to go over my application together (which I highly recommend for any other re-applicants), and as suspected, although (in her words) my application was "highly impressive", I did not make the MCAT score cut-off. She suggested I re-take it (which I was already planning on doing at that point).

Anyways, with the new MCAT in play, does anyone have an idea of what this year's cutoff is? Last year I believe it was a 26.

Oh and as people have already said on this post regarding applying as an in-state vs. out-of-state applicant, the chances are extremely low for out-of-state (as I was told by the Dean). All Kansas applicants are considered first, and Kansas ties help a lot.

Cut off for this year for new 2015 MCAT is 50th percentile. I would bet it's still 26 for old MCAT. Hope that helps.

Anyone know when they start giving out invitations for interviews for ED students?

I'm optimistically interpreting "by the first week of September" as (hopefully) late this week?! I'm sure someone will give a shout-out on here when they have word! Good luck to all!

Hey "OG" glad to see another OG on here answering questions. Keep it up!

M1 here. If you guys have any questions about the process just message me. I'll help you if I can.

Last year they sent out interview notices on Wednesday August 27th so it would not surprise me if they came here pretty soon.

Nothin yet for EDP interview invites! Really hope the decision comes before the weekend. Anyone hear about when they may come out? Cheers!

My lab's Magic 8 Ball said "it is decidedly so" when I asked if we'd hear today. To be fair, it also said that yesterday. I was really hoping the alert I got about HollaMD's post was THE email. *F5 F5 F5*

I wonder if it's taking longer this year because they may have to take some additional time to evaluate what the new 2015 mcat scores mean to them...

I finally got my secondary done this week. Took me a while to get this one done.

Holla- Mine was assigned. Good luck!!!
Thanks! Maybe I'll see you there. I have the email but want to open it once I get down to the ozarks tonight with friends. Haha could be a buzz kill but we'll see!
