2016-2017 University of Minnesota Application Thread

Does anyone know if Duluth and TC have independent admissions processes? Meaning, if you get into Duluth, you won't be accepted at TC or vice versa. TC is my first choice and I'm trying to decide if I should apply to Duluth also. I am instate.

You can apply to both independently, but Duluth had a pretty specific mission. They focus on rural medicine and will reject anyone who doesn't fit that mission.

Does anyone know if you get a confirmation email after everything is in? They have my letters, I submitted the secondary Friday, and the fee got processed today, so I wasn't sure if I would be getting an email since everything is checked off on the homepage now

Everything was complete for me on 7/20. No completion email.

The admissions process is separately done. Duluth decides Duluth, TC decides TC. You also have to fill out different secondaries for both med schools. As @Hopeful_vet said, if you are not focused on rural med and can demonstrate that by having grown up in a small town, are Native American Indian, or have extensive volunteering in small rural cities, you will likely not get accepted.

Anyone who applied to TC hear back or has everyone receiving secondaries applied to Duluth?

Still haven't gotten secondary from here after submitting primary mid june... Should I call and ask what's up?

OOS here. Just got the secondary. Anyone know how stringent the screening process is?

I was complete on 7/14 and meet the criteria, but still haven't gotten my secondary? Anyone have any info on the matter?

Before UMN sends a secondary, they send you a link to fill out which campus (both or one) you want to apply to. The secondary is sent after you have completed this form, but not immediately.

They will likely wait till most people have chosen their preferred date and they figure out how to group them for each date.

Did anyone who has already received an II just get the same email again? I'm confused. It's asking me to select days to interview but I have already done that and they sent me a confirmation of those dates earlier...

Yeah, I got the exact same thing, same situation. Should we email them?

I was thinking of calling them but I don't want to come across as a bother. It was probably just a mistake but it makes me nervous
UPDATE just called and they said there was a glitch in the system so they couldn't see everyone's responses. But they have fixed it so you don't need to reenter your dates. Everything has been worked out so ignore the second email.

Anybody get an II today? Nothing here. The last batch was on Monday, so I'm trying to figure out if they go out weekly, or on some other schedule. I'd rather not be "that guy" and pester the admissions office to find out.

Did everyone answer the "personal background/identity" question? I know on other secondaries I have been instructed to not answer that question if I don't have a notable race/SES/gender. Here, should I just focus on the "lived experiences" part and just continue to expand upon how my activities or maybe medical conditions of family members have influenced me? I kind of covered that pretty well in my personal statement/AMCAS activities, but I could probably think of more info for this question if that would be better than leaving it blank, but not sure if that's what they really intended for this question.

Congrats on your interviews!

Congrats on your interviews!

Waiting on invites is stressful, keeps making me consider starting apps to DO schools.
Submitted secondary August 8th, was complete at that time I think but haven't gotten a "you're complete" e-mail. Green check marks on secondary portal. Did others receive a "secondary complete e-mail".

I'm IS here, Lizzy M 71, (MCAT skews it high). I'd be quite sad if I didn't get in here!

No complete email, just the green checks.

Anyone hear anything back from Duluth yet? Complete based off fee payment email on 7/22 - Twin Cities, 7/25 - Duluth and still nothing for me.
