2017-2018 Kansas City University (KCU-COM)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
When did you interview?

And what exactly does the email say? I’m sure a ton of SDNers would be helpful if they had the exact verbiage.

I interviewed last Thursday.

"We appreciate your interest in Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences-College of Osteopathic Medicine (KCU-COM). Unfortunately, we regret to inform you the Admissions Committee made the decision not to select you for admission to the Class of 2022 at this time.

While the Admissions Committee was impressed with your credentials and accomplishments, the competition was intense and we are unable to offer you a seat in the Class of 2022.

Thank you for your interest in KCU-COM, and for submitting such a thoughtful and impressive application. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors."

It's definitely a rejection. The bolded part confused me a little.

The beginning of my email back in December went exactly like that, but at the end of it, they mentioned that I was put on the waitlist.

My LizzyM is a 68.5 so it cannot be stats I think. I also felt like I did well on my interview. This application cycle has been brutal. Does anyone know what the waitlist email looks like?
My LizzyM is 65 66 so no. I am definitely non trad with a ton of clinical experience though

I got rejected here. I am not sure what I am doing wrong with my interviews. Do they give any feedback about how you can improve your application or what made your application weak compared to the rest.

So my feedback being you had an OOS MD interview, you have a bad letter, or you just need to work on interview skills.

Ive always done well in interviews, i have a stellar MCAT and a mediocre GPA

For any accepted Canadians..Do you guys know what visa to apply to? Also is KCU covering health insurance for matriculating students?

I'm pretty sure we have to find our own health insurance - not sure about the visa thing though yet. Let me know if you hear anything about it.

I think everyone has to get their own insurance, you need to read the health packet. Also, get started on your vaccines

Anybody know what the "Make" is for the PPD Skin test on the immunization form? Tried calling up the place that gave me the test and they weren't sure what it is.

For those who were accepted yesterday do we have an idea when the 1st deposit is due?

Thank you my friend. Is this starting from the day of the email?

Ask yourself "What responses did I give that came off as gauche, low in empathy or conscientiousness, socially awkward, came off as either arrogant or depressed, or gave the opportunity for miscommunication?"

No pro bono file review is going to offer direct feedback about a poor interview because they won't want to give personal offense. "The interviewer was impressed with your academics but feels you lack the social skills to be successful in medicine" is not something they're going to say.

Mock interview services charge about $300 per hour and will offer you direct feedback. Probably invest in that. Probably practice with a friend - preferably a social butterfly.

Good luck to you
Damn son...

How long did it take all of your beautiful faces to receive the acceptance packet via mail?

The only thing they sent in the mail was a copy of the acceptance letter that they emailed.

A few days to a week after the initial acceptance email, they send another email with things like student ID etc.

Does anyone know the difference between the rotation sites at KCU vs MSUCOM? I'm a bit torn about which school I should go to. I know that some people from KCU go to Michigan for their clinical rotations. Also, any general advice on MSUCOM vs. KCU would be greatly appreciated!!! Also, I'm Canadian in case that changes anything. Thank you.

Rotations: MSU>>KCU
Price: MSU>>>>>>>>KCU

haha 😛

Not as out of state, MSU still edges KCU but barely
Yeah the cost of MSUCOM this year is substantially less than previous years I think and then they give a scholarship to canadians, so the cost of KCU + MSUCOM for me are basically the same! That's why I'm torn haha, the $$ isn't really a factor

I got accepted to MSUCOM as a Canadian and the scholarship only brought the cost down from about 87k to 67k. KCU is much cheaper. Unless I'm missing something?

That's good to know!! I actually haven't been accepted to MSUCOM yet, trying to be proactive because my second deposit for KCU is due on March 1st and I'll find out about MSUCOM around Feb 24th haha. Some Canadian students told me that the scholarship is about $25K and from the tuition I read online I thought it was about 75K, so I thought both KCU and MSUCOM were about $50K. But to be honest, for me, i'm willing to spend the extra $10-20K if it means going to the school that i'll be happiest at. I'm already going to be spending so much money at this rate haha. But everyone's situations are different, I'm more willing to spend the money too because my family/significant other are way closer to MSU!

Thanks for the info!!!!

You sure about that? Some of the MSU rotations are pretty ****ty.

haha I mean I thought their rotations were their primary selling point.. I was accepted to MSUCOM OOS and turned it down because their tuition is 88k. Are KCU's rotations better?

I searched but couldn't find it so sorry if this is a repeat... Can anyone tell me how much the deposit is after being accepted? Thanks!
