So even though they only list a certain make and model on the “required” list, we can order whichever make and model we want?

I bought a Welch Allyn set from ebay for ~$350 and a blood pressure cuff. Honestly, don't buy the BP cuff. I have seen no use for it yet. Plenty of other people buy it and you can borrow theirs if you really want to. The standardized patient rooms will have one when you need it for clinical encounters. Buy a cheap-o if you really want one, Amazon has some for $20-25.

What does everyone think about living in KC, especially those not from there? I’m from the West Coast so it is a bit different for me. I thought the city was neat, but I couldn’t help but notice the amount of trash/litter everywhere...

I'm from South FL so I agree with it definitely being different. I explored a bunch of different areas looking for housing while I was there this past weekend-- I also found the downtown area to be a bit..dirty? Don't know how to phrase it exactly. I also felt uncomfortable seeing all the homeless people lounging and walking around near a lot of the apartments I toured (not trying to be rude, just sharing how I felt). I actually really like KC's downtown, but not for living. I ended up finding a really awesome place in North KC, which, like the other poster said, is a much nicer area (as is the south part). You'll also get more bang for your buck in those areas.

I was told the classic was fine! And that's what my girlfriend got me, so it better be fine 😉

Haha hopefully! 😛 I'm between the classic III and the cardio IV...I'm thinking the classic should be good enough too. I mean, I know technically the cardio is superior but it's also $100 more expensive so I'm torn.

Most people have the cardio IV but its 100% not needed unless you go into cards. IMO

I was gifted by family with a Classic III so that is what I plan on bringing. I was also advised by someone to get a stethoscope tag or charm to "mark" it as mine so it is less likely to disappear. I found some good ones online.

Everything I have read is that you're paying over double the price for differences that are likely imperceptible to someone at this stage of their training. I'm just going to get the same stethoscope the other 90% of med students get, personally.

Every site has its own perks and drawbacks that there is no consensus, tbh. Some are more rural, some are known for specific residencies. Some have you working with residents from day 1, while others are almost strictly preceptor based. And because everyone has different learning styles, values and expectations from their third year, you will find a site that best matches all your needs and wants, even if it’s not a “cool” site.

You probably locked yourself out. If you email the financial aid office they’ll unlock it for you

Just a heads up you can modify your financial aid during the school year so don’t worry too much about it right this second. If you take out the max you can always give some back and if you don’t take out enough you can always request more.

There is no sugar coating it. KCU is in a bad neighborhood and very close to some even worse. It is very safe though, due to the security presence.

Scroll down and take a look at Crime Mapping. The campus itself is very safe. Lots of security. East of school is dodgier. Personally, I don't think it's too bad, but I grew up in/around some major east coast cities.

Hey all,

Not sure if it’s been asked but does KCU have GPA requirements post-acceptance? I’m in a masters program and I was accepted to the KC campus back in November. After acceptance I picked up a job during my current semester to save up some money for rent deposits and whatnot, and my grades haven’t been as great as they were in the fall (certainly still passing my courses). I never was informed of a conditional acceptance but was told to send my transcripts by July.

I have a friend who was accepted to VCOM and they’re requiring him to get at least Bs in every course and I did get a tad worried since I might be teetering in the B- range. Hadn’t thought of it though until I spoke with him.

I believe their acceptance letter just says to maintain a standard of academic excellence similar to what you currently have been obtaining. No specific requirements (unless it's a pre-req class). So, a bit of a slip shouldn't be an issue.

It is doable as we just had a person match to a good program in PA.

Likely because a large chunk of the students are from the midwest area and therefore choose to stay there. Selection bias.

Hi everyone! Congrats on getting into KCU. I am a current second year moving to Florida for my third year rotations. As such, I have a one bedroom apartment available for anyone who is interested. It is 15 minutes north of campus and rent is 494 a month. The community is very nice and the downstairs neighbors bring food by every once in a while, so it's a pretty nice gig. There are a bunch of other students around in the complex. Here's the website, let me know if you are interested! Can also try to save mattress/bed frame and table if desired.

Does anyone know if we have to wear a certain color scrubs for anatomy? Also it just occurred to me that at one of my interviews, some of the students were in the anatomy lab in street clothes.. is there a dress code for anatomy other than closed toed shoes?

Color of scrubs doesn’t matter at all. They don’t have to be nice by any means, hit up Walmart they have ones for $5. As for the dress code...we are supposed to only wear scrubs in the lab but it gets super cold in there so a lot of people wear jackets and some people wear t shirts instead of scrub tops. I’ve also seen people in jeans and stuff but personally I think that’s weird and gross, would not recommend, especially during GI/Repro because your clothes will STINK.
