well..I signed an apartment lease, tuition is due in 4 days, and loans have been disbursed for the school i'm accepted to. If I end up getting off the WL, i wouldn't know how to feel about that at this point i'm just going with the flow lol

if you really don't think you're gonna drop everything and take the WL offer then it's probably more respectful to everyone else's time to just withdraw your app from them. All you would be doing is delaying the process further for others

I'm shocked that the DOE disbursed loans this early!! I thought 10 days prior to the start of classes was the earliest. Well, if you do decide to go to your WL school you can always have your loans sent back and then redisbursed to the new school.

Sounds like it's possible that they will drop everything. Maybe that will change, but it's still okay to keep your options open this late in the game. It's different if you're 100% sure. I mean, they can potentially matriculate at school #1 and then leave to matriculate at school #2. Not ideal for anyone, but not against the traffic rules anymore.

Dang that is early. This is a possible scenario that I was thinking about as well. Nothing to do but go with the flow but did you send a letter of intent or contact the school to explain your situation? Either way, I believe things will happen for the best.

Seems like his classes start very soon. Can you pay tuition/matriculate/attend class and then withdraw and re-disburse your loans?

I would unequivocally commit to the WL school if im accepted to it. The lease i signed was only for 3 months, i can probably find someone to sublease to or at worst ill pay them myself. It just became a complicated scenario for me rather than just the typical one. I did send a LOI but all the way back in october once i found out i was WL. They don't know about my acceptance nor the other WL. I was thinking of updating them with a letter and explain that I would drop everything, but i'm not sure if that would help or harm me since i don't have an MD acceptance yet. any thoughts?

A May start date for MD would shock me, but it is definitely possible. . . I mean, one school started in January I believe.

Yes, you can. It's a hassle, but it happens.

Ohhhh, complicated for sure. I can relate. I haven't signed a lease, nor have I even narrowed it down to one acceptance, but I know for sure I'd take either of my WL over my accepts. Maybe another LOI would help, but I'm not sure. Worst case scenario you can be the jerk that withdraws for another school. The commit to enroll tool should keep the poaching to a minimum, but not all schools require so it will be interesting to see how this cycle wraps up.

I kinda wanna write them another letter and explain the situation but im afriad they might take it the wrong way lmao

if anyone is willing to read over my letter id appreciate it. it's like half a page

To be completely honest with you, I don’t think it would really change much assuming they don’t take it the wrong way

I am not using it to get an acceptance, but rather to get it sooner rather than later to avoid withdrawing in the midst of classes , assuming they find me competitive enough and know that they would eventually offer me a position. this is only a possibility because they placed me on 1st tier which historically experiences a lot of movement.

I was told by another school to let them know if you have a commit to enroll deadline coming up cuz they would hate to wait too late and miss a good candidate. Might make them look at your app faster.

im in the exact same situation- let me know what you decide to do!

just a few more days... cannot wait to click that "commit to enroll" button 🙂)
and i dropped the rest of my acceptances. So i am down to my top choice. I dropped everything as soon as i decided, hoping that it will make it easier for you guys. This process is hell as it is, we at least might help each other out as much as we can

Thanks for dropping your other acceptances! It should help some of us out soon!

This has probably been addressed before but I can’t remmeber. Past April 30th, will my WL school see that I am WL at another school and vice versa?

Since we can't hold more than 1 acceptance after April 30th, what happens if we currently have an acceptance and another school offers us an acceptance after April 30th? Is it not considered "holding an acceptance" until we send back paperwork stating that we accept the offer?

You change your commit to enroll to the new school and notify the old school that you are withdrawing you acceptance.
See https://students-residents.aamc.org...icle/amcas-choosing-your-medical-school-tool/ for more details.

I have more or less come to accept that I won't be coming off my only waitlist. i have been on it since Nov and got passed over by others on it. I am pretty confident I was waitlisted with it actually being a rejection.

Don't think like that!!! I think the order they pull is often random and not necessarily correlated with when you got waitlisted. I know people for the school I'm waitlisted at who got waitlisted after others and pulled first. Hold out faith!! 🙂

That wouldn't be "holding 2". You would be holding one and "considering" a new WL offer. Make sure you read the WL offer if you get one to see the time frame they want you to reply in. It will be short. You may accept it or decline it. If you accept it then you will contact school #1 and withdraw.

yeah, it is way too early to tell! i was waitlisted in october, and got off only 2 days ago. dont give up

You usually get 14 days to consider an acceptance before you must make your decision. The acceptance emails should hopefully include that deadline in the email body.

That makes sense. Thanks for clarifying!

1 WL at Wayne State OOS, rest rejections. really hoping for this one. I sent two LOI/updates already, one in october last year and one in february. should i send another? I know this school historically has good WL movement so im hopeful.

Fellow Wayne WL-er here! I would consider sending them a letter if you have any substantial updates since Feb. But, other than that, you're probably in a good position. They have a very large class and tons of WL movement. It's not a 100% guarantee, of course, but chances are decently good.

This limbo, yikes. Long rant here, I'll humbly request that no one use the "reply" or "quote" function because I will probably rethink this post and delete or significantly reword it later...

Because I'm a POS, once I got my one II I sort of stopped preparing to reapply. I was highly motivated and studying several hours a day for a retake in late January and early February, but once I got the interview an insidious voice crept into the back of my head and started telling me "hey, you don't have to worry about that, it would all be a waste if you got in anyway, just focus on your job performance instead," even though well under 50% of interviewees get in.

So I've been focusing on my job performance, and I've been doing great work at my job. But in a future-facing sense, I'm essentially hosed if I don't get off that waitlist. And with every passing day it becomes not only less likely that I'll get in, but also more difficult to get a reapplication together in time.

And then I come on here, to a thread ostensibly dedicated to emotional support for those whose futures are in doubt, and it seems that 90% of people are already accepted to a great school but are freaking out about how they are only accepted to a T20 but are waitlisted at a T10 and how they can't possibly live without the T10 acceptance. I see people debating the latest possible date they can drop their other acceptances to maximize the chance of getting money; I seriously saw a comment on reddit saying basically "I'm accepted to three T10s, two T20s, and six low tier MD schools, but maybe I can get a full ride at one of the T10s by leveraging a low tier acceptance," are you kidding me?? This is at the expense of waitlisted applicants (because the longer you wait to drop your other acceptances, the longer the waitlisted applicants are in limbo), and it really makes me wonder about the empathy (no doubt an important trait for future physicians) some have...

It certainly doesn't help that there are no data out there on the school where I'm waitlisted. It's a pretty well-known USMD so I was surprised by that, but there's no info on the post-interview and/or post-waitlist acceptance rate, they give no rankings, there's nothing out there. All I have is wild speculation from an old thread that the post-interview eventual acceptance rate is ~35% and the post-waitlist rate is ~55%, but that was a complete guess even then and who knows how it's changed this year with the new traffic rules. They also don't accept LOI or updates, which I know probably don't hugely impact the waitlist at most schools, but at least it would let me **feel** like I'm doing something.

I don't know if I'm a good person or not. I'd like to think I am; I imagine most people think the same of themselves. But I feel like if I had 10 acceptances I would drop at least a few of them out of respect for my fellow applicants...

i feel you.... this is my third year of applying and the first two i didnt get ANYTHING.... and then you come here and some ppl have 10 acceptances... i hated that.... But, FIRST OF ALL - it is too early to give up. Movement will be after april 30th.
Secondly, majority of ppl (statistically) have just one or two acceptances tops. It is just when you come to SDN or reddit, there are a lot of type A overachievers here (i am possibly one of them), and it feels like everyone is like that.

stay strong! it is way too early to give up!

@Meridian17 I feel you. I'm waitlisted at 2 schools without an acceptance. I've been pre-med for about 3 years now, and decided post-graduation that this was what I wanted to do. I almost applied last cycle but decided against it because I wanted to make sure everything was right and ready. Well, I let myself down by underperforming at my interviews. All the years of hard work I might have let go down the drain. I understand how upset you are, I am too. What has helped me is looking at other aspects of my life that are positive. I have a great personal life, not perfect by any means but I feel incredibly supported by my partner and family - I hope you have that as well. It sounds like you've excelled at your job by working hard, and that hard work is exactly what will be expected of you when you get into medical school - you already have the drive and the work ethic. Feel free to PM me - this cycle has exhausted me too.

@mmaslyanko good point for sure, I appreciate the kind words
This thread is definitely rough lol, I just kind of wish that there were an actual emotional support thread instead of a thread that feels like 10% support and 90% "gunner with 9 acceptances who wants a 10th"

I think that exists here too! Some time back I posted about how having 2 waitlists and nothing else made me want to enter slumber until May. And the responses I got made me laugh and reminded me that there are other people struggling here alongside me. I know all these people with multiple acceptances will eventually have to narrow down to one, and that seats will open up.

Yes, they get the luxury of choice and the luxury to plan - but at the end of the day they are just people too. And they aren't inherently going to be better physicians than you or I - they just have a nicer start to the journey!

dude... i took MCAT 4 times, i go to the cheapest state college, work full time, because i dont have any family to rely on. I have 37 volunteering hours, because couldn't afford taking off job more than that, and in addition to that i feel REALLY OLD here. And i know a lot of ppl on this thread that have been through a lot of s*** too. 🙂 it is just that people do not share their weaknesses as much, you know?
