Hey everyone I wanted to pop in and say good luck to everyone. I was just accepted from the waitlist to my dream school! Remember all the stuff about LOIs not working? Well I sent one! Of course, I knew the school was receptive since in the FAQ waitlist page it said we could send them. Ask your schools, be bold and persistent, call, and show your love. Good luck to everyone - you got this!

PS - waitlist movement will be amazing this year. make sure you work your waitlists

Thank you!! What do you mean work your waitlists?? Also, what type of things did you include in your LOIs, i want to make sure mine is effective too!

Lol sorry I should have been clearer - PM for more? But by work I mean send regular updates, be upbeat, show that you really want it. As a fun fact, I also got off a waitlist for undergrad and I took the same approach. It seems that getting off waitlists depends on a bit of luck but also on your willingness to be persistent with the school 🙂

Statistically you have a great chance to land at least one acceptance. Don’t give up yet !!!
 
If I’m on multiple WL’s, but some of them are top (25) tiers, but for various reasons the 2 WL’s I care about the most are mid tier schools, does that say anything about my chances? Could I leverage the top tier WL’s and an acceptance in an LOI (I’m on these WL’s and have been accepted elsewhere, but if accepted here I will withdraw from all those offers)?

Also would someone be willing to glance at my app and help me decide on which school should get my LOI? I know which ones I prefer for my own reasons, but I also want to maximize my chances, and don’t want to send an LOI and have it not help or help too little.

this process is just weird man. originally I thought I had a better chance to get into school A. I received II there but also to schools B and C. school C is private and one of the most selective in the area and most competitive out of the 3, with school B being also more competitive than A. ironically, I was waitlisted at both school B and C and just got rejected from A, which i had better chances at. School C didn't put me in tier 3 but will inform me soon if im tier 1 or 2, with almost all of tier 1 gets in. in addition to this, I only applied to 1 DO school, being the only DO school i would attend because it's one of the top in the nation, realized i had a lot of mistakes in my app after i applied so i didn't think i will even get an interview but i actually did and got accepted. weirdest process ever with unpredictable outcomes. if there is one thing i'm certain about, it would be that my 123 in CARS is definitely doing ass kicking 😀

Because I REALLY wanna go to the two schools that are my waitlists . Out of the 3 schools that I have acceptances at 2 are really not a good option , because they would mean end of my relationship with SO. The third school Is a slightly better option , but i don’t like the city , and it is crazy expensive . The two waitlists are relatively local instate schools that I LOVED. So a lot is at stake

I feel you. I'd take either of my WL over either of my acceptances. Either way, happy to be going somewhere.

If I was single , and unattached , it would be much easier . I am also an immigrant , so I have NO safety net anywhere . My parents live in a poor country , so I feel financial pressure, especially since I have to start helping them financially due to their upcoming retirement . The only person who is my family is my boyfriend , with whom I would essentially have to break up If I move so far away (2 out of 3 schools ). So it is complicated
 
Please believe in yourselves, I know a woman who was accepted into medical school in her THIRD try. When you get in and you will, if you persevere, remember that the system needs to become better. Being a doctor is NOT about your numbers, a GPA and an MCAT score. The most creative and compassionate and inspiring physicians are not measured. Still, medical schools are rated by numbers, but hopefully, a new generation, your new generation, will break open a new and better approach. Believe in yourself and your purpose!
 
Hi! Does anyone mind letting me know what the difference between a letter of interest and a letter of intent are?

A letter of interest states why you like a certain school.
A letter of intent states that you WILL attend that certain school.

thank you! and when you send a letter of intent to a med school, would other med schools know about it? (would the schools you sent letters of interest to instead of the letter of intent take you off their WL? So would it just be better to send letter of interests to all schools?)

Yes ofc! I just didn't want my chances ruined at other school's WL if I sent a letter of intent and didn't get off that school's WL. I was debating if I should send one letter of intent then letter of interests to the other schools or just letters of interests to all my WL schools. Thank you!

99.9% sure the schools don't communicate regarding this. How will they even know where else you applied (prior to matriculation)? Schools are aware that applicants can and many times do send LOIs to several institutions. This is why these love letters sometimes aren't taken all that seriously. I read from adcoms on this site that the new traffic rules may increase their value though.
 
Do you think it's worth it to send letters of interests to schools that have ranked waitlists?
 
What time do match day ceremonies happen and what time will lists be posted?

Match Day Ceremonies start at noon ET zone (most schools will let their MS4s open their envelopes at noon) and results online for applicants who didn't go to the ceremony available at 1pm ETzone.

Well it’s past noon, so many tears both good and bad have been shed across the country
