Not that everyone believes this, but I always say, "Do your best and let God do the rest."
yeah, this is exactly what i decided to do! right now i am set on going to this amazing school, but i am still on 2 WL, which are my higher priority. I decided that i will stop worrying, and "Whatever happens happens". I do believe that whatever happens will be the best for me. If i am MEANT to get off the waitlists and go to those schools, - life will make it happen. If not, - Tennessee, i am coming 🙂)))

This year has seriously tested my faith in God. My mom and I had a long discussion the other day in the car where she tried to explain to me that God is putting me through this in order to make me more humble and count my blessings.

We sometimes never find out why He does what He does, but I find that a lot of times when I feel like I am in the belly of the beast, it is to teach me something or help me grow. 🙂

I'm currently on 5 different waitlists (3 "unranked", 2 second tier). If you had to guess a number, what do you think would be the percent chance that I can get off of 1 of these waitlists? Sorry for being neurotic!

i think you will DEFINITELY get at least one, maybe two

Thanks for helping to keep me sane for the time being. I do have one acceptance, but it is a US program in another country (not caribbean. It's kinda complicated). Ideally, it would be nice to not have to move to the other side of the world.

We are strong and faithful. Wherever life takes us to do our work and service, we will grow. The road ahead may be foreign, long, and arduous, but we have decided to follow it. No matter what, we are taken care of and the price to pay for reaching your goals and dreams can be high. We are strong and we will not regret choosing to follow a challenging road if this is truly what our heart wants most.

The second tier seems promising. I’m on a “middle 1/3rd” WL and they historically go that low. The unranked is hard because I think they try to match acceptances to fit the profile of the people who gave up their seats. 5 is very solid tho and I wouldn’t be surprised if you got 1 or 2.

Definitely a good way to look at it! I am in the same boat. When is the CTE deadline for Tennessee? The one for the school I am accepted at is late May, which is pretty early, hence why I am stressing out a bit having to potentially give up two waitlist spots at schools that are my top choices to solidify an acceptance lol

june 24th! 3 weeks before the classes start. So i have plenty of time. I am lucky

I got 6 IIs, 0 As, 3 Rs, 2 WL, 1-waiting to hear from. 12 more days until expected movement starts and I can not stop thinking about it. I really hope we all get lucky and get picked off the waitlist!!

You and me both! I've been trying to start preparing my reapplication just in case things don't work out, but it's hard to be motivated knowing something could happen in the next few weeks. Just gotta keep believing!

Withdrew from Albany's UC list and Nova's waitlist. Hopefully that'll help some of y'all out!

Still on three waitlists, two of which I think I have a non-zero shot of getting off of.

You have a non-zero chance of getting off all 3 of them. If there was a zero chance of you getting in, they would have just rejected you.

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.

Are you quoting the Bible?

Are you quoting the Bible?
No but I wanted to reiterate the moral and social support that exists (as we can often feel alone or not understood by our immediate social circles) for acceptees, waitlisters, and future reapplicants. Even just from this thread and from your future patients who will benefit from the humility of a doctor that has gone through various types of adversity. A doctor that is committed and patient enough to accept the risks, sacrifices, and hard work associated with the application and training process including high debt load, high hopes/vulnerability followed by repeated and continuous rejection, major uncertainty and the social/financial/employment risk tied to that, moving away from family for indeterminant amount of time. The struggle doesn't stop after acceptance and graduation either.

While we are all going through these things to varying degrees, that is the strength and determination of the human spirit to grow. We are either insane for going through these things (especially if it is for superficial reasons that are ultimately non-fulfilling and add to the existing high pressure/demand/dangers/moral injury) or we are just that committed to our vision, love for the field, and the people in it.

Personally, as a spiritual person, I choose to believe that these challenges are for the greatest good and I choose to use them to grow and build faith and character at the least.

It would be really nice if there was a waitlist tracker for this year on Reddit. Is there any way people can just continue submitting on last year's?

is it ok for waitlisted people to request to join fb groups just to learn more about the school/living from what current students post and whatnot or would admissions find that weird?

I think they check the requests against their list of accepted people

So it seems declining to use the "Plan to Enroll" option after April 30 can help or hurt you. If you don't designate as school as Plan to Enroll, schools may think you have zero acceptances and see you as undesirable. Or schools may be more willing to admit applicants that haven't designated a school as Plan to Enroll because they may be more likely to attend if accepted.

Has anyone heard from actual admissions staff about how to best use "Plan to Enroll"?

In my opinion you are really overthinking this. This year is full of unknowns and trying to figure it out is like reading tea leaves.

I would recommend that you try to use your best judgement, send meaningful updates or an LOI to a single school, and let the stars align as they may.

I don't think you can overthink circumstances of the next 4 years of your career. I'm guessing schools will interpret it in different ways, but I'd be bummed to see one of my top choices decline to accept me off the waitlist because they see I've already "planned to enroll" at another school.

Which is why I’m holding off on the plan to enroll....

It seems to me that selecting Plan To Enroll can’t hurt, assuming you’ve already sent an LOI to your first choice waitlist school. Selecting PTE demonstrates that you have, you know, a plan, which is a rational decision while you’re still on the waitlist at your first choice. Just don’t Commit to Enroll lol

this entire thing is literally put into place because of a lawsuit that tackled this very issue of bias you're concerned about, I don't think adcoms will care too much about what their waitlisted person has put, specially because they won't know which school you have selected to plan to enroll to (unless if its days prior to matriculation). I also think you should double check with policies of the schools you are accepted to, I know one that automatically rescinds acceptance if they do not receive that plan to enroll notice and the deposit by april 30th.

That's the thing though. Waitlisted schools will know EXACTLY which school you've selected "Plan to Enroll" to starting April 30.
