It's like when your friends set up a blind date for you that they are sure is perfect and you think, "uh, this person? really?" Sometimes things just don't click.
Don't forget to be happy about your admission!

so you think that most likely you will end up to that very well ranked program instead of your top choice?
You know, one thing i've learnt from life is that sometimes we just have to trust the process. Sometimes life puts us EXACTLY where we are supposed to be, - even if we do not see it at the moment. Maybe you are meant to go to this well ranked program, because something else will happen down the road that will change your life even more. at the end of the day you are becoming a doctor! in a great school. I think you should just trust that whatever is meant to happen will happen, you know?

Definitely agree with this. Because I don’t have any acceptances yet, this entire year I’ve been doing things to improve my application which I would probably not have done otherwise. And it’s taught me so much. It’s improved my communication skills, my patience, and my understanding of social issues in medicine. I feel like it was my destiny to do those activities to improve myself so God hasn’t given me an acceptance yet so that I can learn those things.
 
I'm in the same spot clam and I'm sure thousands and thousands of others. We will get there if we truly want it. And to everyone else about to start. I'm sure the next x years wherever you are will be difficult but you made it this far you will be able to succeed no matter which school your are at. Stay strong

Currently accepted to a highly reputable DO program that starts July 1 and on waitlist for 2 MD programs that start in August. I’ve tried to be patient and wait to hear back from the MD programs to see where on their waitlist I fall. As of right now, there hasn’t been much movement. I’m trying to be patient but also am at the point where I need to start planning if I am going to attend the DO program. Is anyone else in this position? Are people still trying to wait? Are you setting a date by which you will personally decide and move forward with planning for the DO? The longer I sit on the waitlists the more “turned off” I am getting about the two MD programs (one of which I sent a LOI in March and a follow up letter in early May). Thoughts?

It’s very easy to become a little bitter about languishing on the waitlist or being thought of as “second string,” and then convincing yourself that those options are less desirable anyway. It’s a natural self defense mechanism that we all do.

I would say to just tell yourself it really is just a numbers game and that’s it’s not personal. As long as you get in, it doesn’t matter how.

Have you called or emailed the MD schools to explain your predicament?

I’m literally in your position, except that my DO school begins a month earlier! I sent a letter to my top MD waitlist and explained the situation. Otherwise I signed an apartment lease and the current plan is to move comes June.

Same exact situation. I have been wanting to contact my MD school and let them know about the situation, but I would feel like it would go in vain. It seems like MD schools don't care if you have a DO acceptance. Just my thoughts. Somebody please prove me wrong.

When I sent a letter, it wasn’t to bargain about dropping the DO for their MD but rather to explain that I soon must make big decisions (such as lease contracts and tuition payments) since classes will begin shortly so that they may consider that in their decision making.

Have they acknowledged your dilemma and are willing to take that into account? I'm just worried they won't consider me anymore due having an acceptance elsewhere.

It was an actual update letter so I don’t expect them to respond but I made it crystal clear that I’d commit to them if accepted.

I updated them to let them know I had withdrawn from all other MD waitlists because their program was my first choice though, I didn’t say I have been accepted to multiple other DO programs and committed to one that starts earlier. My gut feeling is that the MD school does not care about the DO program and feels that if I want to come there that badly, I would pull out and make things work. Do others agree?

The DO acceptance will have no effect on MD decisions.

wait. you withdrew from all your md waitlists except for one school that you havent gotten into either ? this reminds me of the office when michael sells his condo on ebay because he thinks he has the corporate job on lockdown lol

Yes, I did. Realistically, I think that the DO program or the one MD waitlist that I still have would be the best fit for me. I know that there are lots of others on waitlists and why hold a spot for somewhere I don’t really intend on attending.

thats fair. i think if you are confident after seeing the school that its not for you and you know you wouldnt go if you got in (over the DO you are in now) then that makes complete sense
 
This may be an odd/long shot question, but does anyone know how to go about writing to an Admissions Committee (for a school you’re on the waitlist at) and telling them that you have a deadline coming up (for another school you’re deciding between) and you were wondering when/if you would get a decision?

You just email them and ask. It doesn’t need to be that complicated. Just say it respectfully.

It won’t come across entitled if you don’t write it that way. I think a lot of applicants are either entirely too afraid of making any sort of request or are actually entitled a-holes who don’t know how to sound like a normal person lol.

Idk I've always felt the same way about telling schools that "you're in the area, if they want to offer you an II"

I think it comes with the risk (regardless of how you write it) that an adcom might see it as entitled.

When I wrote my email notifying my top choice of my PTE selections I received a response from and an ADCOM member congratulating me on my acceptance and thanking me for reaffirming my interest, claiming that they are working through their waitlist and knowing that I hold their program with high regard was “very helpful”.... sounds optimistic. Hoping for good news lol

I’ve never had an issue, but maybe being in the military has made me comfortable with that kind of thing. Essentially every communication is written in a very respectful way.
 
For what it's worth, I sent my top choice school an LOI, letting them know what I'd bring to their program and why I loved their school, and I seemed to jump from the lower portion of my waitlist group (they separate the waitlist applicants into portions) to an acceptance. I'm not sure if it had anything to do with the LOI or if they had just accepted a bunch of people and I happened to be one of them, but it definitely doesn't hurt to reach out to schools and honestly tell them that you want to go there and why (if they're receptive, that is). It's important to be your own advocate!
