2019-2020 Florida State

Did you interview last year, not get in, and got another interview with them this year? If that is the case did your interview just go really bad last year?
I literally interviewed on the very last date last year that they held interviews in April. I’m assuming I was interviewing for a wait list spot. I was put on hold after my interview. I felt my interview went well.

Hey, I was wondering if anyone knows what exactly FSU is looking for? I am super interested in this school, but have not heard anything. I am really interested in family care and working with the underserved in Florida, so I think this school would genuinely be a perfect fit for me. I am also a Florida resident. My MCAT is fairly above there average (515), but my gpa is a little below, but not what I think would impact me. Not sure why I am getting no love, submitted early as well...any advice?

You're "interested" in those things but have you actually done any of them?

Edit: Sorry I wasn't trying to sound harsh or anything, really just wanted to know more about your extracurriculars, could have worded better, I apologize.

All my volunteer work is with underserved actually (free clinic, and others non-clinical), and I have shadowed primary care physicians. I really like this school, and am just hoping for an II 🙁

PM sent

For those who already interviewed and got accepted, how long was the turnaround?

Still haven't received anything from FSU.

IS, LM 65, URM.

I submitted early September. Anyone know if they're vocal about R's or?

If they are trying to improve their reputation and be considered competitive amongst the FL state options, they are doing a terrible job of it.

whys that?
Their portal doesn't even show that you have completed payment and are being reviewed...never changes from the you have to pay $30 thing. There are tons of applicants that have been sitting with no communication since June/July. Nothing. When you call the office they are disorganized and rude and give zero information, and say that they are very busy and short-staffed (I have actually called on 3 different occasions and received the same response each time--they never ask for any identifying info and can't answer questions). Really a complete disorganized mess.

Thats unfortunate. Hopefully they can get more staffing. I'm sure they're overwhelmed.

It's unfortunate and weird you had this experience, I called them once to inquire about not getting a complete email yet and they were super nice and then like a week later i got the complete email. Thats so odd, she pulled up my file and saw that my secondary was in and all that and assured me to just wait for the complete email and that it will come in shortly. Sorry to hear this 🙁

Same here. They have been super helpful.

does anyone know if they are vocal about rejections? Will they send you an email saying you did not get an interview, or will they just simply be silent the whole cycle? Application was complete 8/22, and still have not heard anything

my friend who applied the 2018-2019 cycle said he did not hear anything until April, which is when they emailed him saying he was not selected for an interview. He didn't receive any updates on his application in between. Not sure if this helps..

They are also known for not going in order and “selecting in order or strength of app” many people get interviews later who submitted early

Anybody waitlisted last year still waiting for an interview? I felt pretty good about my chances as I'm in-state and felt like last year went well, but I've yet to hear anything.

Submitted Secondaries on 10/13.
I haven't gotten the completed email.
Stats: 3.71 GPA 3.61 SGPA 506 MCAT
A lot of the stuff I've done correlates really well with the school's mission statement.
Does anyone think that I'm at a disadvantage because I submitted my app so late?
But on the school's webpage, it states " Decisions are based on the strength of the application, not the date in which the application is received." How true is that?

im not sure but im IS, LM65 and submitted 2 months ago. Still not a word from them, not even a complete email.

Anyone know what month they're on for interview invites?

At least February I think.
But to everyone concerned about not being contacted yet...if you read last year's thread, FSU held interviews through at least April and people were still accepted. I know someone who didn't get offered an interview until mid March and still was accepted in April. So don't give up just quite yet.

I applied later than you last year (primary complete end of Oct 2018) and I got an interview in March 2019 and was waitlisted. If you align well with their mission, you should probably be fine. Your stats are similar to mine (your MCAT is slightly better, but my GPA is slightly better). Then again, I'm still waiting to hear from them this year.

So FSU accepts people for this current cycle from people that interviewed last cycle? Do most med schools do this, i didn't know this was a thing haha but thats interesting

I think the person meant that they're a reapplicant.

Does anyone know if FSU actually rejects people after the interview? Or do they just either 1) accept or 2) waitlist?

I think they rarely reject post interview, it’s either an acceptance or placed on a waitlist.

How do you withdraw your app on their portal system? Can you? (Pre ii)
